It is also halal and vegetarian friendly, which could be key in organizing a dinner with an international group. Review for both the donner pick up, and the restaurant…read more Restaurant: NO Pick up: Yes! Donner in Vienna, in general: Greasy, full of white sauce and enormous bread greased by the meat that the sauce must cover (ya, try one without the sauce) Convinced by friend to try one here, and they are amazing! Meat is not greasy, and more a fajita wrap. 5.50 Euros vs your average 3 Euros, but filling in a good way. Usually I just grab and go, like happy customer. But the goodness convinced me to try inside as it seemed cute from the outside. Inside turned out crowded in a choatic way and dirty. We still pulled through because I assured my friend the food would be worth it. Menu options around 13 Euros, wine at around 3.60-4.70, 0.5L Soda Citron at 3.60. There is not soap in the bathroom (rest is ok). At the end we ordered donners, since it was on the restaurant menu and was so good. My friend asked not to have the bread wrap with it, just the inside salad and meat, same portion, nothing extra, and the lady refused to do it. That went into a whole argument, which they just flatly refused my friend's request. Dude, just don't add the bread part, what's the big deal? So after they refused, we still went for it, but after 30 minutes of waiting for something that usually takes me under 2 minutes standing at the door to get, I went up and canceled our order. She tried to push us to keep it (just 5 more minutes!), but after trying to get her attention for 30 minutes, forget it. Then, when the bill came, she charged me double for my drink. For real? I asked to see the menu, and without even going back to the menu, she then charged me the right price. Conclusion: Grab and go. Service is really horrible. And no soap in the bathroom....

It is understandable that Levante is somewhat more expensive due to it's 1st district location, but all said and done - a EUR 3.5 donner wrap should not cost EUR 10+ in any circumstance. Donners are good - not great, not spectacular, just good. Made with veal, and wrapped together with salad in a soft, yet chewy wrap. The meat is tender, but way under-seasoned and the the salad inside the wrap as well. This makes the donner taste bland. Also, no sauces are added inside the wrap itself, making it a bit on the dry side. On a positive note, the meat is cut fresh from the hand rotated donner grill, which is set up in a traditional way, using wood (like an open wood-burning oven). Also, this donner is not dripping with grease, unlike most of the ones you will find on street corner kiosks in Vienna, which is a good thing. Pide(s) - very good! 4 stars. I liked it a lot. It is prepared fresh and comes in 10 different varietals. The dough tasted good, properly seasoned and just delicious. Next time, I'm coming back just for this. Tzatziki - above average, so 3.5 stars. They don't use authentic Greek yogurt, which would make all the difference. The dish lacked a certain kick (garlic? more seasoning?) to be considered very good. That said, it made all the difference when combined with a dry-ish donner. Both of the above items are in EUR 10+ range, which, as said, is totally unjustified. The side dishes were unimpressive - french fries were 1 star at best and the side salad was not properly dressed and completely tasteless.

The restaurant is very clean, and the food is really good. The first time I went with my family, the service was a bit slow, but I guess it was one of those nights where they were simply just very busy. The other times I went, the service was much better, and the people there are quite friendly, too. They have an excellent selection of Turkish and Middle Eastern dishes, ranging from the ubiquitous kebab meats, to a mixed grill platter, as well as falafel. They also serve beer as well as very hot Turkish tea. So, it goes without saying, this place might give the "Kebab King" a bit of competition, though I don't think either establishment is in danger of going out of business since they both have a steady flow of customers. But if you want to sit down and relax after work, or on your day off, or even just to have a good meal and chill out, this is the place to go. Don't get me wrong; I like good kebab stands as well but I really prefer to sit down at a restaurant rather than take food to go if I can help it.

Food came out quickly but water wasn't refilled, empty plates weren't cleared, and we couldn't find anyone to place additional orders as needed. Food is FANTASTIC and I loved almost every single thing we ordered. And we ordered A LOT. - Deep friend eggplant / zucchini was just okay. It was served cold and wasn't too tasty due to the grease. - Grape leaves are delicious. - Stuffed eggplant was amazing. Accompanying rice was too. - Greek salad was very tasty. - Chicken, hummus, lamb received rave reviews but I didn't taste these. - Complimentary bread was just okay...one thought is not to give so much as I felt terrible that most of it was thrown away. Overall I'd return in a second, if in Vienna again.
