otoro hand roll & hamachi hand roll... both r great but the otoro really stood out

Restaurant wasn't busy coz we went right when they opened. Host was friendly & welcoming... and let us pick our seat. He also took our orders and food came out quickly and fresh. We enjoyed everything we ordered.

Wow! By far one of my favorite places in LA to get sushi! There is outdoor seating and the sushi bar! Definitely recommend coming for lunch! The chef really does a great job of bringing out all the flavors as listed! Definitely get this seared Toro! As it was one of my favorite! Everyone here is super friendly and sweet and I really appreciated the server, giving us the right recommendations for our order! Definitely will be back again!

Absolute perfection!! This restaurant is fairly small but packs a powerful punch when it comes to their menu. They have sushi bar seating, a couple of window seats, and outdoor seating as well. We had a late afternoon reservation, but walk-ins are also welcome. I started with the Little Sumo sake and ordered seven different nigiri, each with its own distinct flavor. The staff was super friendly and the vibe felt very refreshing. Can't wait to visit again and try more items!

Came here last night for dinner and it was delicious, everything we ordered was great. We sat outside , for sure small sushi bar seating and a couple bar style seats inside so we opted for outside it's a busy area so lots of people on the street where the outside seating is but we enjoyed it. Service was friendly and fast. Would come again.

I always pass by this spot in Silverlake and finally decided to give it a try. They have both bar seating and tables, and we chose to sit outside to enjoy the nice night. This spot serves sushi with some Mexican inspired flavors, which sounded interesting. Here's what I ordered: Nigiri: Hamachi Choco, Akami , Chu Toro , Otoro , Flame Seared Uni , Salmon Yuzu Other items: Unagi Handroll Chu Toro Tostada Hamachi Santo Tiradito Sashimi I have to say I actually enjoyed every piece. Everything tasted super fresh and the seasoning and style made each bite delicious. My favorites were anything toro, the flame seared uni was amazing, the Hamachi Choco sushi was fire, and the hamachi tiradito sashimi was so good we ordered it three times. Overall, a pretty solid sushi spot in Silverlake. It is on the pricey side, not gonna lie, but the quality was there. I'd come back, just probably not in a rush. More of a treat yourself kind of spot.

Everything was really really good. The atmosphere is a lot of fun. They have outdoor seating, which is cool. It's quaint inside the service was very fast and the ambience was just a cool vibe. Definitely great for a date night or just a nice warm summer day to go out and enjoy some sushi.

Santō Brûlée - delicious, but the tiniest portion.

Overall, I had a pretty good experience at Santō. I love the fusion of Mexican and Japanese cuisine, and it's also cool that they have a sister restaurant in CDMX. As for the food, there were a few exceptional dishes, while others were just okay. The portions are very small, especially considering the prices, which are quite high. The service, however, was wonderful--our server was excellent, very attentive, and extremely knowledgeable about the menu. Only got a few pictures of some of the items we ordered. Here is wha we got: Santō broccoli - fantastic! You must get this--the broccoli is light and crispy. So happy to see an alternative to Brussels sprouts. Chu toro tostada - pretty good, wouldn't say it's amazing, but it was solid. You get two per order. Miso soup - very good! Otoro special nigiri - amazing, the flavors were incredible Buttery salmon nigiri - just ok not my favorite Hamachi choco nigiri - unfortunately did NOT like this one Santō brûlée - delicious! The matcha flavor is not overpowering, BUT it is the tiniest portion for $15 which was disappointing. We also ordered a few rolls but they weren't particularly memorable. Interesting place to checkout. Give it a go if you want to try something fun and different.

You definitely want to get a reservation here! A very small and intimate space to eat some absolutely mouth watering food. We sat outside and were bumping backs with the guests at the table behind us but it was well worth it. Our server was great to talk with, gave us great recommendations and really took care of us. If you're feeling adventurous I HIGHLY recommend getting the hamachi choco. Our server described it to us like you're eating a store sushi and it's literally that! The hamachi melts in your mouth giving it a buttery taste and the charred cocoa powder on top gives it the nice smoky flavor. If you do get this, I recommend getting it towards the end of your meal as the taste does linger for a while.

This place was AMAZING! Enjoyed an early weeknight dinner with a girlfriend and we got to try a whole bottle of Californian sake. Tried the tuna crispy rice, hamachi hand roll that comes with a truffle dipping sauce, and salmon hand roll-salmon skin + roe in each bite. Also each got the wagyu nigiri that melts in your mouth as dessert. The space is small so it's nice to sit at the bar and get served there. Make sure to reserve on the website or resy to get a seat inside!

I was visiting the area and while walking around Silverlake, I stumbled upon this sushi restaurant. Inside the decor felt modern, with intimate seating around the sushi bar. A standout for me was the tostada, it really brought out that Mexican fusion flavor which felt unique for a sushi restaurant. Then, the nigiri was also really good. The cut of fish was really fresh and high quality, each topped with amazing flavor that you don't always get at sushi bars. Everything came out super quickly which was nice!

Small sushi spot in silver-lake with limited seating. We ordered the 5 nigiri set, devil tail roll, and seared otoro and seared salmon nigiri. Everything tasted great and service was prompt.

    Karina P.

What a cute spot in Silverlake! It's a cozy, dimly lit sushi restaurant with bar and counter seating. They serve Mexican-inspired sushi, with another location in Mexico City. We got the tuna tostadas to start, which were fresh and so well-seasoned. The spicy tuna and Tzurai Hono rolls were tasty as well. For drinks, the Sawtelle Spritz and margarita were amazing! Will definitely be back.

Good quality sushi with a touch of Mexican flavors. Went for dinner during the weekend. Street parking is hit or miss, but is your best bet. Modern, minimalist sushi bar vibes inside - like many sushi restaurants nowadays. Was sat and served right away. Ordered some sashimi, hand rolls, and a few different nigiri pieces. Was all very delicious - lots small touches to make the pieces unique and flavorful - yuzu, chocolate, and certain peppers. A good experience and would recommend for a date night!

I actually took some home and had this as breakfast the next day. It was soooo yummy. 9/10 Black pepper tofu was also really good. The standout was the Kanpachi Sashimi. The parking was awful due to a Dodger game and we ended up utilizing the valet. Service was nice and friendly and very accommodating. There were some standout dishes that I'm still thinking of, let's get to that! Shaki Shaki Salad - 4 stars. This was a fresh and tasty cabbage salad. I personally think a different texture element would have added to this, like crushed peanuts or something, but did enjoy this. Spring Onion Tempura - 5+ stars. Delicious! Tasted like onion rings, but with a lighter texture. Bonus tip, request the bbq sauce like dipping sauce, it creates the perfect balance. Filet-o-fish Sandwich - 4 stars. This was really good, but was definitely improved with the bbq like sauce I had with the onion tempura. Yakinuku Steak - 5+ stars. I'm not a big steak person but thought this was excellent! Rich in flavor, great texture, and cooked perfectly! I need to have this in my life again very soon! They have tons of sake here, but I opted for a glass of Chenin Blanc which was excellent! I love the ambiance here, it reminded me of an Izakaya in Japan. Very elevated but casual and cozy at the same time. Well done Ototo, see you soon!

After finding parking in the residential area, we walked to the restaurant and got seated right away. Note for parking: there is a lot available for all the restaurants in the complex ($10/car) but it may be difficult to find parking here during peak meal times. If you're willing to walk a bit, park up the street near the apartments. We chose to seat at the bar and had a wonderful experience talking to our sushi chef and Tiger, the manager. We were told that our sushi chef was one of the best chefs from their Japan branches, and that was evident in all of the sushi we ordered. Every cut of fish was consistently thin and crafted with expertise. We ordered quite a spread (spicy tuna crispy rice, albacore with crispy onion, eel nigiri, sweet shrimp nigiri, agedashi tofu, wild cod nigiri, etc.), and every dish was on point. The fish quality is unlike anything I've ever had before. In fact, Tiger told us the tuna is brought in from Japan. After ordering from our iPad, we started asking our chef and Tiger what their favorite dishes were, leading us to try all these different, off the menu customizations. Overall, such a fun dining experience and really solid sushi. We will absolutely be back.

The hostess and server were friendly and attentive, explaining how to order via the tablet. I knew Sushi Zanmai was best known for their tuna, so I ordered the 5-piece tuna set, an oyster nigiri from the daily special, miso soup and warm sake. If dining with a group, you're able to order for multiple people through the tablet and stagger the delivery of the dishes. My order came out quickly, presented beautifully. The oyster was fresh and briny while the tuna was buttery, so tasty I ordered another 3-piece tuna set, complemented with a salmon set. The fish was high-quality and nicely priced. The menu has many options, and I finished the meal with a water jelly mochi. Yum! There is metered street parking along Sixth and nearby streets, as well as a paid lot in Chapman Plaza. Enter through the door from the lot and you are greeted by a smiling statue with open arms. I was seated quickly at a table facing a flatscreen TV showing an NBA game, but I imagine there could be a brief wait at peak times. The interior is light and bright, with bar and booth seating, very different from the eatery that previously occupied this space.

It was as good as I remembered, and probably even better. I can't imagine letting another eight and a half years pass without going back. The only negative is that parking is either difficult or $15, which feels bad in a pretty quiet residential area. Better to take a car in any case, so you can enjoy the extensive selection of sakes. We shared a full-sized bottle, I forget which but I think it was a junmai daiginjo, and it was lovely. Tsubaki is such a nice, welcoming little izakaya. Service is great, the atmosphere warm and easy. You just want to sit back and drink at a leisurely pace. The food is excellent, with a robust menu of creative Japanese food. We shared everything, starting with a stellar kanpachi crudo with ume ponzu, shiso, sweet onion and habanero pickles, and furikake. My favorite dish of the night was the tsukune katsu. I love tsukune, the tare-glazed chicken meatballs you'll find in any yakitori place. This was my first time having them in katsu form, panko-fried and served over cabbage with Kewpie mayo and tonkatsu sauce. The chawanmushi was delicious, silky steamed egg custard topped with Dungeness crab, truffle salt, and mitsuba. Likewise the kinoko tempura, an array of maitake, shiitake, and enoki mushrooms fried light and crispy, with yuzu shichimi and tentsuyu for dipping. We got a skewer of bonchiri from the yakitori menu, delightfully chewy bites of charcoal-grilled jidori chicken tail. Finally, a plate of yakisoba, pan-fried noodles with house-cured Peads & Barnetts char siu, pickled green garlic, and cracklin. We got the hojicha parfait, and it was more or less my ideal dessert. Roasted green tea soft serve with sesame black sugar burnt miso and candied walnuts with cornflake dust. Cold, light, sweet. I could eat a whole one by myself pretty much any time. After nine years in business, Tsubaki feels like an Echo Park institution, and the kitchen is as strong as ever. This was a wonderful dinner, one I hope to repeat soon, with more sake, more yakitori, and more hojicha parfait.

Unfortunately the rice balls I wanted to try were sold out for the night- which how do you run out of something popular at a 7 PM dinner? Anyway, we had the fried tempura, garlic fried rice, short ribs, and chicken oysters. Everything was delicious and I would get these dishes again. But my standouts were the short ribs, they were tender and the marinade was light and fresh. The fried tempura was another standout for me because the sauce paired so well with the lightly friend asparagus. And I'm going to to say the chicken oysters- I think they were grilled to perfection with a tiny bit of wasabi.
