Once that had occurred I just closed things up and, for a time, just left the room darkened until I could afford a professional. I sought checked on the various local electrical contractors. Each had fees for coming out to evaluate the job. This fee customarily included an hour of labor should you choose to have the contractor perform the job. Bay Area Electric was well-reviewed, and stood out as experienced and reasonably priced. James Parker showed up on time, and I expected the usual inspection, followed by frowning, some (probably) bogus calculations, and a presentation of what it was going to cost - including a side rant about the state-mandated fees, insurance, etc that made running a small business in California almost impossibly expensive. I was therefore surprised to find that Mr. Parker immediately got to work. He promptly diagnosed the problem, and checked the other outlets until finding the receptacle downstream that shorted as a result of the GFCI blowing out. He was friendly, professional, and completely focused on the tasks at hand. As a personal bonus he betrayed no hint of judgment about my amateurish and botched attempt to do the job myself. The repairs were quickly made, and he provided a total of four LED bulbs, a new GFCI receptacle, and a replacement for the blown-out reception. All completed to my complete satisfaction within an hour. I was "shocked" by the reasonable amount I was charged. Based on my experience, Bay Area Electric has sparked a positive hope that whenever I need negative forces run to ground, they will be my #1 choice.

These were just minor repositioning's of outlets and especially the can lights. Most of them involved moving the lights only 6 to 24 inches one way or the other, in order for them to line up or be symmetric within the space. But they were the kinds of things that would have driven me absolutely crazy once we moved into the house. I would've been lying on my sofa, staring at the ceiling, and saying, "What the hell?" The quality and care of the work was totally shoddy, careless, non-functional and non- durable. The price was completely disproportionate. My friend who looked at the work described it as having been "phoned in" on a toy plastic Mickey Mouse phone with a fake rotary dial. One example- the installation of a washing machine drain connected only with duct tape and without a standpipe, so water leaked all over the floor the very 1st time the washer was used. Another example: Repair of a redwood gate using a piece of interior trim (not redwood and not waterproof). I wasn't sure how/if it was attached to the rest of the gate so I pulled on it gently and it started to come of in my hand. It was only attached with a few staples (not strong or waterproof). My mistakes: 1. I did not read other reviews, especially the one where Kelly responds to an unhappy client with "I know who you are and I know where you live". 2. That I let him do these super simple projects without me supervising and telling him not to use the wrong materials, not to attach moving parts in a wet environment with tape and staples and not to make the work disfunctional, weak and ugly. My bad.

I live in Cotati, CA. He was extremely thorough in preparing all documents related to my estimate and included projections related to how much I could save on PG&E use and expenses. He was very flexible as I lined up the financing for the job and assisted with all the rebates associated with the job. Every single aspect of the job was exceptionally well done. Even though his service was exceptional, I still had doubts that my solar system would meet/exceed his energy estimates. Well, they exceeded the estimates every year (meaning I reduced my PG&E demand more than he estimated). It has now been 10 years and I recently called him to see if he would be willing to stop by and inspect my system and make sure everything is still performing properly. He was able to visit my home very quickly and determined everything was still in perfect order. The normal life expectancy on some of the components have since passed yet everything is still functioning perfectly. I give Brandon a perfect 100% score on every aspect of service.

Otto came back the next day with a quote, could get the work done sooner than another company I was considering. He and his team were here as planned, even texted me that they were on their way. Our landscaping had to be dug up and moved, rocks, gravel and plants, to trench the new line. They got the line in that day so we could end the leak and the meter spinning The next day, replaced all the landscaping beautifully, cannot even tell this was dug up!
