I've been a lover of Martha of Miami merchandise since I first discovered them at Croquetapalooza…read moreseveral years back. I was ecstatic to find out that what began a small endeavor has turned into a live one-stop shop. Seriously speaking, Martha managed to get into a niche that no one really knew was needed until it was. I mean, come on now, who doesn't love her stuff? It's a plethora of products all distinctly unique and so utterly Cuban. Throughout the years, I've gotten a shirt or two at events from her, but now I can say I checked out the actual shop and it's so quirky. I love it. T-shirts, mugs, pins, random trinkets that all change with the season. So original! And can we say easy to get her items regardless of location? She ships via USPS, although I did originally go for pick-up for my first of two online orders. See, it began like this. I started my Christmas shopping. I found an espresso set that I thought was totally Miami and a perfect gift. I had moved up to Pembroke Pines a few months back, and well, I didn't feel like paying shipping and was going to be in the area anyway. Ended up picking up the espresso set and saw more of the shop, and made a purchase online later that day. This time for a Christmas caja china that counts down 'till Noche Buena. For the second order I did shipping because I was going to be out of town and just figured it would be easier. Turned out I was right as it came and my neighbor took care of it for me while I was gone. Loved the care they put into the packaging, both in and out of the store. You can tell that each package is sent out with some tender-loving care. Will continue to support them wholeheartedly, especially seeing as this slowly and surely is becoming a shop synonymous of all things Miami.

In my opinion, supporting local artists is a responsibility of us all.

Here is a classic study of 2 people--a customer and a shopkeeper--and their integrity. One who demonstrated great integrity and one who showed none.

Arguably THE lifestyle boutique in Miami BASE, is a perfectly curated masterpiece. The minute you step in you know a lot of thought and love went into this shop. The clean, unique fragrance is Sand, an exclusive designed by BASE's owner Stephen Giles. This store is clearly Gile's vision of a life well lived. From designer clothes to a CD bar BASE has something you're bound to fall in love with. And you'll note that BASE supports the arts from having their own label and a band The Life Project, to holding exhibits during Art Basel. The idea of bringing art into everyday life is obvious especially in the selection of graphic tees and kitschy, colorful toys. They also have a great selection of books some focusing on local art and architecture. If you're on the beach head over to this spot, if nothing else for inspiration on anything from music to decorating. BASE is one of the jewels in South Beach's crown.
