I recently upgraded from a Coronado 27 to a Westsail 42. That's a big jump, and while I felt nervous about docking my 27' boat, the forces are so much smaller that even a "controlled crash" isn't that big of a deal. 30 tonnes of fiberglass with a full keel and massive prop walk is a different story, so I signed up for the docking and slow speed maneuvering class. Mark was a great instructor. I teach on-site classes for corporate engineers, and I was impressed by his demeanor, how he slightly tailored the class to each student, helped everyone feel confident, and made sure that each person had digested the lesson, instead of just assuming they did. At the end of the day, all that is nice, but the value of the class is measured by the results: I feel like I will be a lot more comfortable and confident taking my boat in and out of the slip, side tying, and generally handling it in tight spaces. I've taken classes with three other sailing schools in the southern California area, and honestly, they all were pretty decent. Santana is a little bit cheaper, just as good (and in some cases much better). Long Beach is much more relaxing to take a class in vs MDR or Redondo, and all the students ended up getting along so well that we ended up going for drinks nearby afterwards. I definitely didn't do that with the other students/instructors I've taken classes from. :) Normally I don't write a lot of reviews, but Santana is a small operation, and thought that it was worth a few minutes to try and support a small business, especially since I felt like I could honestly endorse it.

At anchorage in Catalina. Marc made an excellent appetizer. We had a wonderful time and learned a lot!

I have been on the water with Marc three times now and have learned something new each time. Most recently we completed a three day trip to Catalina where we worked on points of sail, sail trimming, anchoring, and navigation. Marc knows what he's doing and more importantly knows how to teach you what to do. His focus is making sure you progress in your skills. I'll definitely go back for more!

It's super easy to drive, and you can basically turn it into your own private floating lounge. We brought our own champagne and food, and the Bluetooth speakers were loud and clear. They even have cute captain hats for the group! My only regret: Not booking a longer slot. One hour flew by because it was so relaxing. If you're on the fence, go for the 2-hour booking it's the best way to enjoy the LBC water!

Getting a refund has been difficult. I've made many attempts to get a hold of someone at the business and via email. No one picks up the phone and I've not received a reply to my email. When a company cancels a service, issuing a prompt refund should be straightforward. Unfortunately, that isn't the case here, and it's created unnecessary stress. I would recommend being cautious when booking and confirming their refund policy ahead of time. Hopefully they improve their customer service and how they handle cancellations in the future.

And they're phasing out their most powerful boat, the 75hp, because of too much abuse and the associated high insurance costs. But they still offer the 40hp boat and that has plenty of power, with a top speed of about 20 knots. It comfortably seats 4 people in designated seats, but can fit an extra two people sitting up front sideways on bench seating. I had a great time. I saw seals sunbathing on the buoys, and I even saw dolphins near the first oil rig island by the Queen Mary ship. Of course you can also get a nice close-up view of the Queen Mary itself. You're allowed to go almost to the Seal Beach Municipal Pier, but not quite. 1hr duration is enough if you want to do a quick single lap of the designated ocean area. 2hrs is highly recommend if you want to take your time and not be rushed. Be sure to bring a light jacket, hat, and sunglasses to protect yourself from the wind and sun. The designated driver is not allowed to drink. I'm not sure if the rest of the guests are allowed to drink. Park near the Yard House restaurant and then walk to the back of the restaurant and you'll see the little hut with the staff in it. If nobody is there then look over the edge to the docked boats because the staff might be down there instead.

Because we couldn't get up on a plane, the small waves ended up splashing everyone on the boat. We just puttered around the shoreline marina. It was fun, but a little disappointing at the same time.

Fast forward...I now have sealegs (which you don't need) so I booked a gondola to see the Naples Christmas lights to get a different view. The weekend before, friends and I walked the canal after the Belmont Shore Christmas Parade, so you can imagine the crowds of people going to see the Naples lights. The gondola is a much better way to see the lights. Booking online was simple. I received a confirmation email and in the email was what to expect. If you bring beverages, they provide a cooler/ice bucket with ice and cups. Connor was our gondolier and he was an absolute champ. He paddled through the canal so quickly that we had more time left on our cruise, so he took us out to the bay which was deserted, but peaceful. We had such a great time thanks to Connor! I highly recommend Gondola Getaway. Their staff is so friendly and knowledgeable. It's well worth the $267.50 (pre tip).

Oh man I never published this review.. this is from our booking on Nov 26, 2025…read more. Fantastic experience from start to finish! Decided to surprise my wife with a relaxing duffy boat ride for our wedding anniversary with some friends. Went straight to Yelp to do my research (thanks Yelp!). Originally, I was going to book with a rental company for Newport Harbor, but then came across a Groupon for PCH Electric Boats. After checking out their website and reading the glowing reviews on Yelp, I immediately booked. I called to book a white duffy boat on the day before Thanksgiving. The person on the phone was friendly, courteous and really easy-going. They asked if I had a Groupon and if I could provide the voucher number. BOOM. done. all set! I received an email with VERY DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS (including photos) of where to park and where the meeting area was. Additionally, a link to the waiver form that every passenger is required to fill out (even your babies) was included in that email. On the day of our booking, we were met by the owner Grant who I'm pretty sure was the same friendly, courteous and easy-going person I talked to on the phone days earlier when I booked. He provided specific instructions on where we're allowed to go and what to avoid. He saw we had several small children in our party and recommended everyone use the restroom nearby before boarding since there is not place to stop out in the harbor. After we came back from our potty break, Grant lead us down to the dock and got all the kiddos fitted for their life vests (all in great condition btw). He assisted us with our bags so we could focus on boarding the kids safely and even took a group photo for us! The boat was clean and easy to drive. The sound system was bumping and all the windows easily lifted up for that nice harbor breeze. It was a beautiful and memorable day. On our return, Grant was at the dock with one of his employees ready to receive us. He guided us in smoothly and as we were gathering our belongings and cleaning up, he helped all the kids out and grabbed our bags. We handed Grant a tip and immediately he passed it over to his employee who was going to do the post-ride cleaning.. what a great boss!!!! Definitely will be booking with PCH Electric Boats again! Rented a boat and took it out for a couple hours to see the holiday lights and enjoy some friend time on the water. Brought our snacks and drinks and navigated out to the canals of Naples. Beautiful this time of year with all the lights and magical holiday vibes. One thing I would say the rental price does not include a service charge of 15% so your total will be 15% more than you expected. I'm sure they note it somewhere along the way in the paperwork but I missed it and asked later when I saw the charge which they cleared up right away. The map is helpful as you may lose reception out on the water. Low tide gives you a more fun experience than high tide as you can't go under some of the bridges if the tide is too high. Check your tide chart before booking or ask them. Nigel's restaurant there seems really fun too crazy use of a space that was just a sidewalk a few years ago. The pink ones are $350 for two hours, but we went with the blue one for $250. Pretty reasonably priced if you go with about 10 people, which fit comfortably. The Bluetooth connection worked fine but the speakers were a little blown. Despite the condition of the duffy, we still had a blast. The staff was very nice checking us in, getting us started and parking the duffy. I'd totally do this again!
