Did not fill my rear diff on my '65 Mustang. Did not zip tie my neutral safety switch wires out of the way when transmission was rebuilt and caused it to short circuit onto my exhaust. Sure hope that mechanic got fired. read more

Went here because my tail lights weren't working and I needed a new brake light switch. I read reviews that made me trust this place. The owner seemed like a nice guy and so did the workers. Once I paid them $100 for fixing the switch, my brakes stopped working halfway home. I called and they sent someone out to look at it but didn't see anything wrong with it. I took it back to have them look at it and they seemed really defensive with me bringing the car back to figure out why my brake pedal was getting stuck. I decided to take it somewhere else where they charged me half the price and didn't disrespect me. When I went to get my money back for them putting my life in danger, the owner threw the money at me, told me I'd be back again because my car needs way more work and laughed in my face. This company is class-act. I have a 98 GMC Suburban that had the 4WD go out. A couple of years ago another mechanic told me it could cost more than the value of the car to get it fixed - needless to say I hesitated getting a quote. Then all those trips to Tahoe, Oregon, etc. and it made me so sad to have an SUV without 4WD! I finally bit the bullet and found Steve on Yelp! Boy what a great leap of faith that was. As I just recently moved to Santa Rosa I was at a loss as to who I could trust as a mechanic. I tried a couple of them out with no luck as far as trust is concerned. And then a friend told me about this place. I am so grateful! I called Steve this morning to see when he could check my car out and he said to bring it in right away - that the place was full and they were busy but he'd look at it as soon as I got there. Wow, already! As soon as I got there he came out and checked everything that was possible without putting it up on the hoist. One of the issues, I had been told previously, was the transmission. Well, this proves Steve's honesty. He said that it's the motor mount - not the transmission! That sold me. I was a loyal customer from then on. In addition, he quoted me on parts and labor for an issue but said that if I could get the part cheaper elsewhere, he'd install it. Wow - I've never been told that before! They were very helpful and very friendly. They did a basic transmission service and showed me my oil pan and explained what things looked good and what things I needed to look out for. They even found a minor issue that my other mechanic missed. They had lots of knowledge on my vehicle and not just with the transmission. Very happy with a transmission rebuild they did on an old Jaguar about four or five years ago. We drive the car regularly and the tranny is sound. I enjoy tinkering on the old Jag, but in truth am really just a novice at automotive repair. I did, however, manage to remove the tranny myself and reinstall it after Brad rebuilt it. Because of my efforts I'm sure, they took lots of time to explain to me more about transmissions than I'm afraid I understood. These guys are great! I rolled my car in to their shop making a horrible sound that another mechanic told me was the transmission. Steve and Steve Jr. took the time to help me determine that it was not the transmission and my engine was leaking oil. They sent me on down the street to a shop that they trust and it will cost me a fraction of what the dealership would've charged me to fix it. I've had a few transmissions rebuilt at Santa Rosa Hydramatic over the years, but now I wouldn't go back again. I called Wednesday, Feb 13, 2013, in the afternoon. The bookkeeper said Steve was out drive testing a car, would be back soon, and call me. An hour went by, no call. I called back. Steve had the message, would call back soon. No call. Now it was past business hours for the day. I called Thursday morning. Steve was now busy with a field trip of 200 students. No call. Noon came. My husband and son went down with our car. Couldn't get in the parking lot, and none of the worker's could be bothered to come out and even assist with my husband to get any kind of service or response. He left. And, to top it off, I never once got any type of call back, apology or otherwise. read more

For the past several years, my Camry has hesitated in between gears accompanied by a clunking feeling. Lately it had gotten pretty pronounced, so on my way to work last week, I pulled in to Santa Rosa Hydramatic Transmission and asked they guys to look at my car. They put their computer sensor on it and discovered that the transmission fluid was dirty and the top mount needed to be replaced. Within 10 minutes, I had a quote of $290, and an appointment to bring my car in the next day. I dropped it off the next morning, they promised to be finished in 2 hours, and one hour later, it was done, and the bill was $290, exactly as they quoted. Since then, my car rides SO smoothly! It's like driving a new car again! No hesitation or clunking, just super smooth transition between gears. All three young men I dealt with there were courteous, professional and attentive. The guys at Santa Rosa Hydra-matic are incredible. I brought my diesel shuttle bus in to have the transmission beefed up for towing a huge trailer year round and they did a fantastic job. They are honest and take pride in fostering a good relationship with their customers. Steve, the owner, met me as soon as I pulled in the driveway and we immediately hit it off. He asked what I'm going to be using the bus for and we discussed the different options for what could be done to make the tranny reliable and durable. When the work was done and it was time to pick up the bus, the technician and Steve spent about 30 minutes answering all my questions and explaining how to take care of the new HD tranny. SRH is part of the ATRA network. It's reassuring to know that under this umbrella of mechanics, one can find a shop virtually anywhere in the country if service is needed. Steve even gave me his cell and said to call anytime anywhere if there are any issues/concerns at all and he would get them resolved. I was so dismayed to realize that there was something wrong with my Dodge 2500. Deep Sigh... 2nd gear was slipping on the manual transmission.. Ok.. I am a female. While calling just about every transmission shop in the greater Sonoma County region...The preverbal quote for a female was all over the map. To give you an idea.....I went to Dodge and I was quoted over 9k for a new transmission. Uggg!! I've been meaning to write this review for YEARS, but I just have so much to say so I needed some time. I cannot emphasize the quality of work that Steve provides. My husband and I moved to the area in 2010 from So Cal with a 2001 Isuzu Rodeo with a "new" transmission in it. It blew. Literally. Steve helped us MANY times to get it to Last us for a few years longer. It actually turned out to be a lemon and Steve discovered that and did all the research and put another legit one in at a fair price. His crew took their time to be thorough and precise. He would call with updates, and gave us his cell # so we could call with questions. He even helped get my husband to and from work on several occasions. I cannot even believe that that kind of service is still around!!! Then, we just had a problem with our 2006 Camry. Turns out the oil change place possibly put something in the steering fluid. Our car was almost a goner. Again, Steve and his crew came to our rescue. They took apart the car (mind you this really didn't have to do with transmission) and figured out and remedied the problem. It took awhile because it wasn't a transmission issue, therefore Steve used his vast amount of contacts to find a Toyota specialist to help walk him though the issue. Even the failures were not related to Steve's work he stepped up and kept at it until the third transmission was installed and working beautifully. Not too happy with work I had at this place. I came for a routine transmission fluid change and when they got started on it and had it apart I then got the high pressure sales push from the owner. He came to me and said it was full of metal filings and was bad and I shouldnt drive it. I feel I got pushed in to rebuilding my transmission when I never had a problem with the way it worked in the first place. Did I even really have a problem with it? It works the same now as it ever did. I asked to see my old parts when I picked it up and the rebuilder came out with an attitude and says he threw them away already. I feel like I got taken advantage of, the whole thing felt very slimy and when questioned they all got very defensive. read more

Recommended this shop to a friend of mines daughter who just moved to Santa Rosa. They had there car towed there on a Saturday and found out they are closed on Saturday's. {clutch problems} So they towed it home. They called the shop on Monday and someone from the shop I believe the owner himself came to there house and looked at it. Told them they could drive it to the shop and he would look at it closer. Found out it was caused by the floor mat being bunched up under the clutch pedal. He did not charge them anything. Sometimes you worry about recommending a place of business. I have always had amazing customer service with SRHT. They have helped me on many of my projects and they always seem to have just the part I need for my classic cars. I just had my transmission and rear diff serviced as well as a clutch adjustment and it came out to be about 100 bucks. I would have paid twice or more at any other shop. Also Steve personally inspected underneath my car and pointed out key things that need to be replaced. As a mechanic myself I know there are a lot of shops in town that are dishonest and only want your money, Steve however is not like that. He is honest above all things and answered all my annoying questions without losing patience. A lot of shops and mechanics will treat you like garbage when you ask a question that may seem like common sense. SRHT is not like that and I know I received great value with a shop full of mechanics who really know what they are doing.
