I was having a car inspected 500 miles away from where I live, needed to know if it was ok. Not only did I get a written inspection report, I got emails with "noise" from wheels and engine with the likely cause. A little late to writing this but I've been meaning to write this for a visit in May. I had to take in my '05 PT Cruiser that was throwing the good ole check engine light at me out of the blue. I called and spoke to Brian who was very helpful and recommended running a thorough diagnostic on the car to see what was going on. Fortunately he had a cancellation that morning and said to come on down! Turns out one of my spark plugs was shot which was causing the classic jerky, put-put like symptoms my car was putting out. Not only did he fix her up nicely but he even noted my back left rear light was out and changed it free of charge! My son's "new" Cadillac was having a power steering issue. Brian was able to take it in the next day to have a look. Since the car was 20 years old and my son had just purchased it from a private party, Brian suggested he do a 'safety check' to try to get ahead of any other potential issue. By noon Brian called with a list of items that needed repair, some were critical. He was able to repair the power steering, the alternator harness, a bad wheel bearing, and flush and pressure test the cooling system, and still have the car ready for us at 5 pm. The total cost was about $100 less than the original estimate and was a very fair price for all the work they did. I highly recommend Ace Automotive. read more

Great job! I called Ace, as my car would not start and left a message if I could have it towed. Brian called right back and told me to bring it on down. He was very nice on the phone and said he would call when the car arrived. He called right when my car came in and asked to run a diagnostic. I agreed, it would be a necessary/good idea. He told me how much it would cost as well:). I received another call letting me know that the battery was shot. Brian had a battery for my car model, gave me the price, installed it and called back to let me know it was ready an hour or so later! Wow! Brian really made me feel quite comfortable right from the start. My Explorer wouldn't start! Parked at El Polo Loco for an early lunch and realized something was wrong, lights and dash all came on but nothing more after turning the key, then waited after calling for a tow. Brian explained what to expect calling me later to tell me what they discovered then quoted me a price. Said part will be there in the morning and he'll call me after they test drive it making sure everything was good. Next morning much sooner than I expected, it was ready. No additional fees. Brian comes off like a nice, honest guy, but after doing some legwork, I was able to verify that his prices are astronomically high, even for the simplest of work.  He thought he could swindle me because I'm not the manliest, macho dude, and assumed I knew nothing about cars. And when I told him I simply needed more time to consider all options before proceeding with the repairs, he belittled me and basically told me my car was a piece of junk and not worth fixing for any price. Really? Only seconds prior, you were ready to charge me an arm and a leg to put every penny I had into this car!  Beware. This guy is not as "nice" as he tries to appear. Working in HR, I have witnessed plenty examples of poor customer service in my lifetime, but a business belittling its customer and ridiculing their property (after trying to swindle them with a hefty estimate) was one of the most offensive, bizarre, and disturbing, experiences I will ever encounter ...and will remember for a very long time.  If you don't mind spending exorbitant amounts of money on things you don't need and being verbally insulted, come here!  But if you just need some simple work for a reasonable price without being shamed, look elsewhere! read more

I went here as it was recommended by a few of my coworkers. Brian seems like an honest guy, but the business practices don't seem too honest. Especially when I found out how much the parts actually cost. Can't say much more than that. First of all, I have not been to an auto shop that charges to diagnose the car, he wanted $110 just to READ THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. That is ridiculous. I had two simple problems, power steering leak and radiator fans. I knew these were the problems and he still charged an hours labor to find them out. He then quoted me about $1500 to fix everything. Right away I knew that was astronomical. He stated that the cost for the fans was $600 by itself. I was shocked at this and after looking it up online I could buy the part myself for between $100 - $200. I do not think auto shops should be trying to profit off selling parts, they are providing a service. It is unjust to mark up parts by hundreds of percent. I told him not to do any work. I took my car to a mechanic my family and I have gone to for many years and was quoted only $650 to FIX EVERYTHING. How could there be this big of a discrepancy? They only charged me 2hrs of labor TOTAL. (Oh and also they only charge $80 per hour for labor, not $110) I went to ACE with high hopes that I had found a decent mechanic in Sonoma County, but they were very disappointing. I basically threw away the $110, it was really stupid of me to agree to that. I should have gone with my gut feeling. I will never go back here. It seems highly immoral to be charging these types of prices, especially when he specifically told me $600 for just the part. If you are ON ANY TYPE OF A BUDGET, beware, do not go here. read more

As someone new to California, I was referred to A.C.E. from another automotive shop that didn't handle my type of car. I have since gone twice, and while the customer service I have received is very friendly, the price quotes I have received from this place are way too expensive. For example, when I went to get an estimate for the brakes on my car, they were going to charge me nearly $1,000 to fix them. After taking my car to get a second opinion at another shop in Santa Rosa, I received an estimate less than half of that amount for similar work. In fact, nearly all the estimates I have received for my car were between $1,000 and $2,000. I do not feel that they are dishonest here, and they seemed to do a very thorough inspection of my car and a good oil change, but I do feel their prices are a little outrageous. I will pay more for good service, but not that much more. I do not think I will be going back here, as my new mechanic offers the same quality service, but at prices with my budget and needs in mind. read more

As someone who knows his way around a a car... and especially well around my car I was very happy to have taken my car to Brian. I did not have the equipment nor the time to do the work myself. He has excellent service and is very thorough at what he does. The two low ratings he has gotten here are from people who are looking for low pricing. Any mechanic will be able and does shop for parts, some choose higher quality ones (as Brian does ) and others choose to use budget or knock-off parts that will lower any estimate. As far as his hourly rate, his is on-par with any CERTIFIED mechanic, improvement and education on his behalf and his staff is an important part of what he offers. (Certificates clearly visible in office). In short trust that Brian is looking out for you and your vehicle, if the price seems high ask him to explain why and perhaps there are other options available. read more

I am a college student driving a '99 Chrysler. Earlier this fall my battery died and my headlights started turning on and off by themselves at random points--even when no one was in the car and it was completely off. Took it to a dealer in Santa Rosa and they were NO help--"We can't duplicate the problem so we can't fix it"--and charged us $150 basically to tell us that the car is old. Thanks for nothing. Took it to ACE and just after talking on the phone with Brian he already thought he knew what was wrong. Very nice to me, explained how things work (because I know nothing about cars) without being condescending and there was no vibe that he was trying to take advantage of a young college student who knows nothing about cars. Tried replacing the headlight switch and it didn't work. Ordered a new Body Control Module with the promise that if that didn't fix the problem he wouldn't charge us for it (since it is quite a pricey repair). He got the part, installed it and monitored it for a full day to make sure the problem was resolved. Then I told him that I would be leaving the car for 3 weeks over winter break as I travel to SoCal and don't trust the car to make it all that way. He said if it dies to jump it, bring it back, and he will charge it on his battery charger overnight at no cost to me. Brian is a GREAT guy. Clearly is not trying to make the most money...he just wants to fix your car. Much better than the sketchy dealer. read more

I was charged a whopping $165.00 to run the code machine and was told that it read 4 different codes , that basically I purchased a bad car and to take care of it. Finding a new mechanic was hard for me, I was previously very spoiled by having my next door neighbor as my mechanic... he would just take my cars to work with him when they needed anything and of course he was fair and honest since we were friends and neighbors...then he moved and I needed a mechanic asap...I got a lot of suggestions but so many great ones for the same place,ACE automotive..and I'm so glad I listened to the suggestions ! Brian got me in right away to figure out why my check engine light was on. Did a complete diagnostics , called me maybe two hours later with what he had found (damn catalytic converter..ugh) and very honestly gave me my options . Didn't pressure me into anything and didn't try to upsell any services . I agree to the repair and was prepared to make arrangements to get a ride to work tomorrow etc but nope, he said it would be done today and it was ! Gave me a very reasonable price and most of all made me feel comfortable with everything that was being done and that is more than enough of a reason to be a repeat customer! We have been going to A.C.E. for 5 or 6 cars now. We have never been disappointed. We have a pick up so old that at the mechanic spent time to go to Windsor to get a part. That is service!!
