I give 5 stars purely for the honesty and transparency given over the phone. The gentleman that I spoke to was frank about the level of service they can provide compared going elsewhere. He was open about their knowledge of the problem I was experiencing and provided professional recommendations other than going to the dealership. I would definitely bring my vehicle here in the future if I need assistance. read more

Nor Cal has the reputation of being the best transmission shop in Sonoma County because that's what they are. Don recently helped me with my 71 year old truck transmission. He made some recommendations, did the necessary work, made it safe, reliable, easy to drive again and for a great price. read more

These guys may-be one of the most honest/solid workplaces I've ever experienced. Spoke to the owner about having my truck transmission looked at because it had thrown a code and went into limp mode. I opted for a tow package transmission package, and the guys at Nor-Cal delivered. The owner was very transparent and got me my truck back on time and went above and beyond. Glad to call myself a customer at Nor-Cal transmission. read more

Top notch service. I highly recommend these people. I brought my 1978 scout ll to have the clutch repaired. He kept me updated and informed every step of the way very professional. They are also very nice people. I highly recommend this shop. read more

These are honest professionals and have been nice enough to keep my vehicle around for a long time while we wait for another place to send the right transmission and i will take 2 more vehicles there that need transmission replacements read more

I had a very stupid elementary question and called and the owner don took his time and went out of his way to walk me thru an issue I was having even tho it had nothing to do with anything he created. I know many ppl that have had their trans built here and everyone is happy. This is how a local biz should operate. read more

I blew the reverse gear on my '75 Scout and drove it like that (always needing to park where I had a roll back getaway plan) for longer than I'd like to admit because every other shop quoted me such a high price to fix it. That is until I was recommend to Nor Cal. They gave me a best case (just replace reverse ) and worst case (would need a full rebuild based on how the rest looked) quote before tearing into it to. The rest of it turned out to be shot, I came in and saw the components before they trashed them and I'm shocked it went forward at all with those. BUT they still ended up charging me less for a full rebuild than other shops wanted to just to replace reverse. That was 2 years ago with a lot of me beating on it in between and it still runs like a top with nice clean shifts. I also went in this week due to a clunking noise I couldn't put my finger on with another vehicle and it took 2 minutes of a test drive for Don to let me know he was 99% sure it was my transfer case. He didn't even hesitate to crawl under as well to get the best look he could without tearing it apart. That one happened to be covered under factory warranty or I would have used them again because they again quoted me a very fair price if they did need to rebuild it for me. Not many shops like this any more. They really are honest and just trying to help people out vs. gouge them. Russel even offered me a ride home when I dropped my Scout off and the ride I thought I was going to get from my GF wasn't working out. All around great guys who are also damn good at fixing transmissions. read more

Only place I will take my vehicle for transmission work. Don is honest and won't upsell or BS you on repairs. He stands by his work and has been in the business for years. Appreciate the speedy repairs and my truck runs like a dream. I refer everyone I know to NorCal to get you done up right. Thank you! read more

I brought my 1965 Mercury Comet Caliente to Don's shop to get my transmission rebuilt. Don ran into some issues trying to find parts for my old Transmission. That being said, Don got the parts needed and did a fantastic job. 2nd gear would always pop out down shifting prior to the rebuild and now its better then new. There are a lot of shops out there to chose from... I would make this shop my first choice, if you have transmission issues. Fair, honest, reliable and most of all, he cares about the quality of work coming out of his shop. I will be back Don, but hopefully not to soon :) Don's shop was referred to me for my classic car and I would like to do the same for anybody wondering if this transmission shop is a good choice! Thats a BIG "YES" read more

These guys are the best! They are honest and do great work. They helped us with our transmission and are genuinely great guys. I highly recommend them to anyone needing transmission work. read more

They kept car for a month and didnt even bother to tighten bolts that hold engine, 2 fell out onto road while driving. Guys at Jiffy Lube on Hartnell helped screw the one back in. I never did find the other, they said its a miracle I didnt drop engine on freeway, it was hanging by a thread! I dont feel I still owe $100 after this kind of negligence! What about my tow bill? i feel I should be reimbursed! FYI! AJ read more

Don is an excellent credit to his trade! Several times I have stopped by and interrupted his paying jobs to ask him a question about something that I was researching and he always stopped his work to help me, without compensation I have found Don to be a wealth of information and knowledge, and has an unbeatable attitude as well. I would send all my families work his way; I can recommend him in the highest regard Adam Adam at Calsites dot com read more

I was having problems with my Cadillac escalade and was referred to Don at Nor Cal transmissions by a family member. Before I even brought it in I was telling a friend about my problem and that told me to go to the same place. So I figured that this must be a good place to go. I always hate taking my car in to places I have never been to before because I always feel like I will get ripped off. THIS PLACE WAS GREAT!!!! Very friendly, knowledgeable and reasonably priced. They even asked to have me return in a few weeks so they can check it out again to make sure everything is working right. I will definitely go again!!! Thanks guys! read more

These guys are great! I took my car here for a second opinion and even though it wasn't good news I was happy they were honest and took the time to look at it w/out a charge. They made me feel comfortable and confident in my decision. read more

Don and Russel operate how every business should. I had nothing but a great experience. Don't go anywhere else for your transmission needs.

Didn't do business with them but they helped me diagnose an issue with my car. Ended up swapping the entire transmission myself but I'd go to them in a heartbeat if I need to go inside the transmission. read more

This company services out fleet of trucks and I have to say the service is great. They have been very honest and through with every repair. Definitely worth the wait when they are booked up. read more

I owe a HUGE THANK YOU to Don and his team at Nor Cal Transmission in Santa Rosa. Despite the fact that I didn't have an appountment and some of Don's employees couldn't even get to work yesterday (due to the fires) he managed to prioritize a repair for my van because he knew I'd been donating it for helping with fire relief efforts around the North Bay. He got me out in a few hours and only charged me for the parts, no labor. He said he just wanted to help get me back on the road ASAP so I could try to use the van to try and do some more good for fire victims and relief efforts. I'm incredibly grateful because this weekend (and in the coming weeks and months) I will be putting a LOT of miles on this van (which was gifted to me last year by my friends in the band #LaPlebe) to help with fire relief efforts. read more

I am a person that absolutely hates being at the mercy of the mechanis so to speak. I found this place through the BBB. The transmission on my vehicle had failed and I needed it repaired cheap and fast. Don was very nice and professional and underdstood my situation. He was able to replace my transmission at a very good price and installed it in two days. If you have transmission problems I would recommend Nor Cal Transmission. read more

Don repaired a transmission for me. I ran into a little trouble a few weeks later and Don removed the transmission fixed the problem, and reinstalled the transmission and didn't charge me a dime. I really appreciated dealing with business this kind of integrity. read more

Great guys providing great, professional, friendly service. Their estimate was right on and actually a bit less. They even had me drop by after a month or two so they could drive and check it out. I apologized and said I was sad after that check up .. that I hoped to never see them again .. because how often would you normally rebuild a transmission. They came highly recommended to me and I now highly recommend them to others. read more

My Husband's truck had a transmission rebuilt by Nor Cal Transmission. It was in the shop four times in six months. One time in only three weeks. There were a number of incidents and the explanations didn't add up. He finally ate the warranty and went to a different shop and had the transmission rebuilt again--with better results read more

I had the transmission in my 1100 horsepower Cummins powered race truck built here at NorCal Transmissions. So far it has held up to all the abuse I have given it , and it works and shifts flawlessly. These guys are true professionals and I highly recommend them. read more

I took my 91 Miata in to have the clutch replaced. Don was referred to me by the friend of a neighbor. I had to wait, however in the end, it was worth it. The car runs well, shifts smooth as silk and the shaking during acceleration is gone! I can even take off on a hill again! Thanks Don, I appreciate your excellent work! read more

Don is a great guy to deal with. Had to deal with a warranty issue on a transmission (bought by previous owner). Don has been extremely helpful in getting this resolved. I am very pleased with the quality of their work. The guys even replaced a rear main seal I forgot to mention that had a minor leak while they had the transmission out. He also noticed a loose driveshaft bolt and replaced it. (not even anything related, but could have been a big problem). I typically do all work on my vehicles myself. I haven't taken a vehicle to a mechanic in 14 years. As a very picky mechanical engineer and machinist all I can say is GREAT JOB!!! read more

I've dealt with the good folks at Nor Cal only twice. Ten years ago I severly damaged the automatic transmission in a 1992 Chevy Blazer while trying to rock it out of some snow by throwing it between reverse and 1st with my foot on the throttle. They rebuilt it with heavier duty parts in a process that involves lifting the body off the frame to get the tranny out for not much more than some places charge to replace the clutch in a front wheel drive sedan. I couldn't believe how reasonable the price was. The quality of the work was absolutely first rate, it has been just under ten years since that repair and the transmission is still working as smoothly as the day it came back from the the shop. The second occaison was when I went to them to have a bushing from a small manual transmission inspected and honed. They did the work while I waited and refused to charge me for it, saying it took so little time it didn't matter. One of the best automotive service shops I've ever dealt with. read more

This shop has always done excellent work. I have taken my truck and my car to them for many years. They are real "old time" mechanics...intelligent, competent and fair. I trust 'em with anything related to transmissions. read more
