What can I say, they were my hero's today. Check engine light came on while on the 101 and my car started to die. Was on my way camping with my daughter and towing a full trailer. Spied the Honda dealer in Petaluma and manage to make it there. They won't help me but the guy directed me. The had no problem figuring out the issue and where able to get it fixed so our weekend wasn't ruined. All the guys were super friendly with my daughter. Lastly the honestly. Given my situation they could have charged me just about anything lol. But they laid out everything out and it was an absolutely honest price (and very affordable). I have a slightly lowered sportscar, and was excited to find a local shop that said they could work on my car, no problem, even a custom alignment. BUT Absolutely the worst service ever. I took my car for the alignment last Friday and twenty minutes after picking it up I heard a loud "clunk!". The steering got scary and I had to hold the wheel at an angle to go straight. It was very unstable and hard to make it home. I called them that evening to let them know something seemed off, and they told me they wanted to make sure I left happy and to bring it back in. When I dropped the car off next Monday,I told Joe the alignment was messed up and it could have ended in a bad accident. He got very angry and told me it was my fault. The mechanic who worked on it approached me and wanted some info but seeing this, Joe told him not to talk to me. It this point I wasn't going to leave my car there. I told Joe. I waited for the owner, Freddy to arrive. As I was waiting Joe came over and asked me why I was still there and started coming at me saying that the problem was my fault. Full disclosure, prior to this I had my car in for mounting tires, and at that time I saw they had jacked the car up on its suspension control arms. I wasn't sure about this but was later told by other professional mechanics that this is an unsafe way to jack the car. It could have bent the components. The control arms are not load bearing parts. A week later I towed the car to another shop and had them check the alignment before touching anything. The rear wheel's toe was totally off and the adjusters on both sides were so loose the tech could move them by hand. The owner of Local Heroes, Freddy Blue will not return my calls. read more

As another reviewer stated, full disclosure I did not have to have any work done. I brought my truck here on the premise that it had a bad/intermittent starter going bad. The location is real convenient and easy to find, right off one of the main drags in Petaluma. I checked my vehicle in and told the service writer what the problem had been somewhat diagnosed by a local tow service thru AAA. She advised that the could take my word and just replace the starter but would not be able to warranty their work since they did diagnose it and advised for them to do the diagnostics on the suggested problem. About 2 days later one of the mechanics called me and advised that they checked the starter out and was able to get the truck to start a vast number of times without any hesitation. They started it various times throughout the day. They could have gone ahead and said it was a bad starter and replaced it and charged me and I would have not even thought twice to question it since I thought myself the starter was bad. To me that is a testament to good and honest ethics and for that reason I will definitely be using them for any future vehicle repairs. read more

**Full Disclosure - This review is for a smog check only. No automotive repairs were needed or done.** I called Local Heroes on a whim on the afternoon of Friday 07/09/21 after finding out that the place I use to (see that, it's now past tense) take all my cars to get smogged had double their price for cars that were 1999 or older (mine is a 1998). And I know you're thinking why did it double? The answer I got was Covid. I know, I know, total BS. Anyways......I called and spoke to Dianne and asked if they did smog checks. She said yes, twice a week. Lucky for me one of those days was Saturday and she was able to squeeze me in at 8:30am that very next day! The next day I came in with my dog, waited a little bit while Dianne took care of the customers prior to my arrival. Then Dianbe did all the paperwork on my SUV & then the smog technician, I believe his name was TJ, he took the keys and did the smog. The whole process was fast and painless and I was on my way in no time! The environment is friendly, and they have 2 couches for customers to utilize while waiting for whatever services are being performed on their vehicle. And definitely make sure to check in on your handy dandy Yelp app if you're a first time customer as a 15% off coupon will pop up that you can show them to save a little money. Full disclosure: I didn't have anything actually fixed/serviced yet, I am reviewing the customer service I have received and value. I am not a mechanic, I can change my own oil/fuel/air filters which I do religiously and can do basic part swaps when they fail. A year ago I contacted Local Heroes online for quotes on some services on my Ford 6.4L Powerstroke. I got a call back from Conrad who explained in detail what would be done, which fluids and filters would be used, and his honest experience with the rebuilding these engines and problems they come with. I do try to learn as much as I can about my vehicles after I purchase them, so from between what I know and the conversation we had it gave me 100% confidence in going to this shop for amy of my truck repairs. This last week I stopped in to diagnose a slight seepage I noticed near my oil pan/transmission. Jason at the counter helped me and was very professional. He didn't try to sell me anything I didn't ask for and he talked to me as a real person (some shops will talk to you like you dont know what you're talking about) AND I was only charged a half hour for the diagnostic. Other shops will charge you 1 hour right off the bat! I was told what fluid was leaking and given a beginning estimate which was fine. I wasn't given a full cost of repair because the transmission needs to be moved back to determine which parts really need to be replaced. I was told the leak/seepage isn't critical so I was satisfied with the service and will be back to this shop when I have more cash available to get the job done. read more

I was rumbling down the road, just causin a ruckus with odious commotion emanating from my deflated tire when.....do mine eyes deceive me? Is that an angel descending from the eternal kingdom above? Had my car go in for the "service engine" light. I asked for an oil change as well. They called with the estimate and I told them it would be too expensive to get the work done and would opt for purchasing another vehicle. So I asked them to not do anything and I would pick up the car. When I paid for the the diagnostic work, I noticed they changed my oil as well. That was really lame. Wow. Just wow. And not in a good way. Back-story: My husband's car didn't pass a smog check because "visible smoke" was detected when he was getting a smog check at a different smog check place. He then went to Out West Garage to get the car fixed so that it would pass. They referred him instead to Local Heroes because they do smog checks and repair. SO, my husband takes his car to Local Heroes. They charged him $175 for the diagnostic alone - not to do a single bit of repair, but just to look at the car. Then, the guy says that the car has been very poorly maintained and the bare minimum he would need to do to get the car to pass smog was to do another $450 worth of work. The implication was that the car needed MUCH more repair than that. They knew they had my husband over the barrel. BUT, my husband rescued his car and went instead to Whole Auto, where he should have gone all along, as Dan does smog checks. Dan was done in 20 minutes. He ran the smog check and there was no smoke. The car runs fine. read more

It doesn't make me feel good to write this but unfortunately, our experience with Local Heros was anything but heroic. My husband had a mechanic for years who worked on his truck, but since his passing, we had to find someone new. A friend (from whom we will never ask for a recommendation again) suggested Local Heros. His diesel truck needed a pretty major repair. We finally got it back today AFTER A MONTH of delays, runaround, excuses, parts on order, parts still on order, total radio silence, a new guy didn't know how to fix it, someone had a cold and partridge in a pear tree. As this truck is a lifeline currently as source of income, the lack of concern and communication was infuriating. I understand we are all trying to survive Covid, but this customer service was astonishingly awful. My husband is far more patient than I am and he discussed this with the manager who admitted they handled the situation poorly. He offered a small discount which amounted to not charging the sales tax for the repair. This was an $8800 yes you read that right...$8800 repair. An absolute horror at any time but a real punch in the face at Christmas. Was the $800 rebate welcome? Yes. But for the inconvenience and lack or concern, I cannot ever recommend you take your vehicle here. read more

These people are AWESOME!!!! I made an appointment to take in my Tiffin Motorhome to have it smogged. It wouldn't fit under the roll up door, due to the air conditioner covers, but they spent a good amount of time, not to mention HUGE EFFORT trying to get it smogged!! They moved their equipment using a ramp they set up, tried repositioning the hoses that need to go into the exhaust pipe as well. They remained cheerful and helpful throughout and I'm giving them five stars for the effort they made!!! They also pointed me to the other smog place in town (Petaluma) that can do motorhome smogs.
