My daughter's car had been having some issues and she took it to a local mechanic who quoted her $2700. He mentioned so many problems that she came home crying. I was glad she took it upon herself to take her car in somewhere, but disappointed she hasn't paid attention when I talk about my "guys" in Petaluma. Long story short, we took her car from that scam mechanic and drive it right to Bill & Jay's. $95 later my daughter's car is back in action and she learned a valuable lesson. read more

Their exceptional service is unbeatable year after year. Totally honest, trustworthy, knowledgeable and dependable (in every way you'd want in auto repair experts), plus their excellent work is done quickly (we enjoy lunch somewhere in Petaluma within walking distance, while they work on the car). They're also genuinely kind with a great sense of humor, are more than fair with what they charge (truly!), and always go the extra mile - if they notice things that could become issues, or the car doesn't need the work we though it did (misdiagnosed by us), they tell us - no charge! After many, many positive reviews I decided to trust these guys with my lil ride and I'm so glad I did. I was able to get in for an appointment within a few days which was helpful. Dropped it off in the morning and it was ready about an hour later. The guys were super helpful, nice and very easy to talk to. What I appreciated most was I was never made to feel like since I am a female I didn't or couldn't know anything about my vehicle. This is one of the reasons the dealership lost my business. I cannot say enough good things about Bill & Jay's. My brakes needed to be looked at and as a woman who knows nothing about vehicles other than driving them I was not looking forward to the experience. I live in town and started calling shops. I liked the way my concerns were discussed in the call and decided to take my vehicle there. I am glad I called first and came in later because the shop is on the small side, and I would have judged the book by its cover, which would have been a *huge* mistake. Not only did they fix my brakes (needed needed new pads and rotors), but they only replaced one set. They could have easily told me I needed new brakes all around and I would have believed them. And as you've read in many other reviews, they charge a very fair price. And as if that weren't enough, they answered my unrelated questions without showing even the slightest hint of impatience. Who does that these days???? Bill & Jay's does. You need look no further - you've found a shop staffed by mechanics who prioritize their care about your vehicle, not your wallet. Joey is such an great guy! He was very patient with me! He explained in detail what would be necessary in order to potentially repair the vehicle. It was a service they were not able to perform themselves, but he gave me recommendations of a couple of other local shops. I truly appreciated such attention to detail, his customer service with his honesty is outstanding!!! He did not want to charge me anything for his time looking at the car. Knowing the situation I was in after having purchased a car and 6 days later it breaking down, I truly value & appreciate his generosity!!! When I may need servicing on a vehicle in the future..... These guys are awesome. Father and son duo who really know what they're doing and care about the customer. I've trusted them with my 1980's Ford for all required services and they have been nothing but honest about what she may or may not need. They even waived the fee when a service wasn't needed! We had our car towed in a Friday night. So Monday we called and called and called. No answer no voicemail. So I drive there and there's another customer who tells me he had work done and it made it worse so he was trying to get them to repair it. We've gone everyday this week and it's Thursday now and we FINALLY got our key back since we had to have it re towed AGAIN to another dealership. So I guess they just take vacations whenever they want. Today they were just relaxing shoving McDonald's down their throats. No apologies for not posting a sign or anything. read more

I've been taking my 96 Camry to Bill and Jay's for a few years now because it's convenient and they seem like straight shooters. I work in the city and commute daily from Petaluma, so taking my car into the shop means I have to take a day off of work. A few weeks back I made an appointment to get my backup lights fixed. Dropped the car off at 9:45 am as I said I would, with a post it note including the problem, my name and phone number, and left. At around 3:00 I called to see when I could pick up my car. No answer, no voice message. Tried again at 3:15. No answer. Started to worry that something was very wrong, so fortunately, found my spare key and walked down there. Much to my shock and surprise, the place was padlocked. My car was exactly where I parked it that morning at the curb in front of the shop. My keys were sitting in the middle of the desk. They completely flaked on me. Worse than that, it was after 4:00 on a Friday and I had to scramble to find a place that was open and would even consider looking at my car. The guys at Yotaluma were awesome. Even though they were sweeping up, they diagnosed the faulty part, ordered it and told me if I could get it there by 4:00 any afternoon the following week, they could fix it in 10 minutes. I will write a separate review for these guys who saved me, but back to Bill and Jay's. What if I hadn't had a spare key? Why was there no emergency contact number or answering machine? How much business do they have that they can lose track of a regular customer's car? It's just two guys!! I cannot put into words how betrayed and disappointed I felt by this customer service nightmare. When I called the following Monday to authorize my neighbor to pick up my key, the guy seemed surprised that this had happened, but made no attempt to make up for the mistake, to fix my car, or to really acknowledge the depth of the inconvenience and money this day without a car had cost me. They probably could have saved my business, but they didn't even try. What can I say except you guys have lost this customer forever! read more

Honest, Fair, and inexpensive. You can trust this business and they will go out of their way to save you money. Here is an example of a business interaction a few years ago. After getting ripped off buying tires from big O, they told me I also needed to replace my brakes as they were worn. I was skeptical because of how they treated me and my tire purchase so I brought my Camry to bill & jay and left it for the afternoon. They called me shortly after informing me my brakes were fine. When I went to pick up my car I asked what the charge was for their time and labor. Jay said $0! I was so impressed and surprised I tried to offer them $40 for their work and saving me money on brakes that I did not need. He refused to take my money. Support your local businesses especially those that are as fair and honest as this one. If you want a mechanic you can trust this is it! read more

Jay & his whole team are thorough and HONEST. I'm hesitant to even take my car to get it's oil changed anywhere else. Having absolutely no knowledge about cars, it would be easy for a mechanic to pull one over on me and claim that my car needed work it didn't. My parents have taken their cars here for years and I will never take mine anywhere else. They do not charge an arm and a leg for repairs (the most I've paid is $155) and I have even walked out of there with no charge at all when they couldn't find a problem. Bill & Jay's is simply the best. Jay couldn't be a better guy. I have been taking my cars to him and his folks for 7+ years. I started working in Petaluma and wanted a good mechanic. A couple of the guys that worked with me in Petaluma recommended Jay's to me. I can't say enough good things about Jay and his staff. They have NEVER let me down. And Gals - if you are looking for a bunch of mechanics that won't lie to you or charge you for tons of things you have no idea about... you know the usual B.S. then come to Bill & Jay's. Jay nor his guys have ever talked down to me, rolled their eyes etc. I ask tons of questions and always always ask them for referrals to other automotive services. They have always answered me and have always led me to good people. Jay & Bill's tire shop being one of them. And yes there is no relation between them. I hope Jay doesn't retire for a long long time, and if he does, I pray he teaches one of his guys how to take on the business, so they carry this great business on to the next generation. First time customer here and I've got to say I'm blown away with the service I received today! I work in Petaluma and literally drive by the shop daily, so I thought it was ironic that I ended up there when my truck wouldn't start today. My first thought was to have AAA tow it back to Novato where I live and take it to a mechanic there, but my boss told me to call Bill and Jay's as it's the only place he takes his cars to. When I called, Jarrett was really friendly and mentioned that they were closing soon, but that he was willing to take the time to check it out before they closed for the weekend. Faster than I ever imagined, Frank from the shop called and told me the truck was repaired and ready to go. Not only did they find the minor problem that my truck had, they also fixed it for a very fair rate. Looks like I just found my new mechanic! WINNING! These guys really care about the people that come in to get work done on their vehicles. I've gone to bill and jays for a couple reasons. New brake pad and rotors and new fuel pump. Both time I came in they not only fixed what was wrong or the request I had. But warned me about a rear baring that's about to give!! Coming here was a breath of fresh air! Ive been to plenty of auto repair shops over the years and had plenty of bad experiences from oil changes to major repair. So when my car started acting funny a friend suggested I go see Kevin and Joey @ Bill and Jays I prepared myself for the typical run around being a not mechanically inclined. MAN WAS I WRONG! Kevin was quick to get my car in and diagnosed the problems I was having in minutes. He showed me where things were going wrong and explained everything to me! He showed me what needed to be addressed now and came up with a game plan of what what was most important and then down the line. Needless to say my car is now running like a champ and I couldnt be happier! I took my Honda for years to Bill and Jays when Jay was the owner; when he sold it a couple of years ago, I kept on taking it there because the guys who bought it had worked for Jay. Jay was honest and great and I thought the service would be the same. I thought wrong. Extra charges (twice, $100.00 plus more) routinely, without my being told or called beforehand; a strong gas smell after service that they cannot fix, a price for a battery that was so much more than other garages- ENOUGH! I am shocked that you can ever get an appointment here. Example: I needed a timing belt for an Accord. Dealeprice was $700+-, Out West Price was $500+, Bill & Jays $350+ . I have actually had the guy fix something simple and NOT EVEN CHARGE ME! I assume he must own the building outright as the prices are ridiculously low. We had our car towed to Bill & Jay's when it wouldn't start. The AAA tow truck operator said he thought it was the starter. Bill & Jay's could have ripped us off by replacing the starter, because they knew that we suspected the starter when we brought the car into them. Instead, it was the battery cables, which they cleaned up. The cost--$20. read more

I brought my car to Boulevard Auto because it was running rough and chugging. They charged me almost $400 to fix a code that was making the check engine light go on. My car still chugged. The light was still on. I brought it back. They charged another $160 to fix another code having to do with the light. My car still chugged. I brought my car to Bill and Jays and they ACTUALLY DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM, fixed the spark plugs and for less than $200, my car is purring again. My first time here was a few years ago when my Honda wouldn't pass smog because it needed a new oxygen sensor. So I brought it here and they went ahead and ordered the part and installed it but discovered only the dealership could do it. So they uninstalled it.Something to do with the computer. So I came back to pick it up and asked how much. Nothing. I was shocked. They wouldn't take a dime from me. So ever since I needed some work done on my car I come here. I have been taking my car to Jay since I was 16. Jay is the most honest mechanic I have ever known. He has fixed minor things on my car and charged me as little as $20. My friend didn't rate them on Yelp, but I'm sure it would be 5 stars based on how much he raved. So I'm giving them the 5 stars for my friend.
