Don't waste your time or money here. Dave seems reasonable, but will ultimately deceive you. He replaced a sensor on my truck and I walked out paying almost DOUBLE what every other shop in town quoted the job. I called him to clarify in case there was a mistake, and his response was literally "tough luck, that's the mechanic industry". After I told him that every other shop quoted me at nearly half his price, he asked if he could call me back. No response and won't return my calls. What a joke. If you want to be treated fairly with honest pricing, go anywhere but here. read more

I got referred to Petaluma Auto Craft because OutWest does not work on Hyundais. Larry was awesome. He was very respectful and patient. Extremely knowledgable and kept my car for about a week and a half so that I could get the full amount of money together. My car had an engine fire and he replaced my fan, alternator and all the associated wiring. Its a place that puts people over price. And understands when people are in shitty situations. They are respectful of different people and walks of life.... I didnt get any weird looks with my mohawk or studded vest... which I was actually pretty surprised about. Also, they tell you to come up if you are having any problem with your car... just to check it out... whether or not you decide to do it yourself or pay them to do it. They took care of the Hyundai for several years and worked with my kids stopping by for the occasional fix. Recently I noticed that Larry had a vintage Ford Mustang that he was working on. After speaking with the employees at Petaluma Auto Craft I soon learned that they are Mustang experts. Since I was considering the purchase of a vintage 1965 Mustang convertible I involved Petaluma Auto Craft in the purchase process. The service here is excellent. Dave is an incredibly personable guy who is always happy to help. He explained the issues wrong with my 1994 Honda Accord clearly and concisely in a way that even I could understand. It took less than a week for him to finish all the repairs on my vehicle, which may seem like a while, but I assure you my car desperately needed it. When I took my Honda into the shop the thing was falling apart so badly I expected him to just tell me it was better off being scrapped. Instead he did a thorough run down of the system, allowed me to stay involved for the entirety of the process, and finished with the vehicle working so well I could hardly recognize it as the same one. All while being incredible kind and helpful through the whole ordeal. Highly recommend for anyone who wants some high quality service and higher quality customer service. read more

Larry was also referred to me by Maria from Out West Garage, and overall, I have to say that this place was good. The pros were that Larry was friendly and personable, which always makes a big difference, the service was prompt, and he was honest about what needed to be done and what didn't need to be done. Here is what I had done: I have a 1994 Mercedes C280, and I knew that I needed brake pads replaced. Larry checked out rear and front brakes, and told me that I only needed the front brakes done, which required also changing the rotors and brake sensors. Maybe I am a bit cheap, but I always prefer to be quoted an exact price for any work done, and then I prefer a call if any additional work is to be done to the vehicle that will require me paying extra money. Larry quoted me $350, but he replaced a rear brake bulb and charged me his price for the bulb ($12 - approx. $5 more than one bought online), and didn't tell me until afterward. This bothered me because whenever I can cut expenses on my vehicle and do my own work, I do, and replacing a bulb is a cinch for me to do on my own. I would have preferred that he notify me that the bulb was out - it seemed a bit of a cheap shot. Some people may not have minded that he threw in the bulb and charged for it without asking as they may not want to do it themselves. Here is the cost for his parts: 4 front disc brake pads: $85.00 2 front disc brake rotors: $50.00 2 brake wear sensors: $11.00 1 center brake rear bulb: $12.00 Labor: $150.00 Total: $374.64 ($25 over what I was quoted - that's dinner for some people!) Honestly, these prices are a bit expensive for an auto shop, but not too unreasonable. However, I will probably check out another auto shop with good reviews the next time I need work done - there are just too many good ones in Petaluma. read more

Yesterday started with a drive from Sacramento to Santa Rosa....uneventful until smoke started billowing out from under the hood of my Tahoe. I was fortunate enough to have this happen while driving next to a nice guy named Jason Jenkins (Owner of Vine & Barrel in Petaluma). Jason took the time to refer me to an "Honest" mechanic and that was Dave at Petaluma Auto Craft! We put some water in the radiator and I limped my car over to Dave and I have to say, it was a GREAT experience. Dave was honest, friendly, kind and very fair! Dave had my car up and running in a couple of hours and I made it back to Sac safe and sound. If I lived near Petaluma, Dave would be my go to guy for sure. I was driving back from Rohnert Park to San Jose, when my car stopped in the middle of the freeway in Petaluma. I stopped at this shop, with my 9 year old daughter and met with a tech leaving at 6pm. I told him my dilemma and that I had to still reach San Jose. He was very friendly to my daughter and I, he asked me to pop the hood and he saw that my battery was shorting. He fixed it very quickly and helped to hold down my battery so we could make it home. He was SO GREAT!!! I will never forget his kindness and neither will my daughter Priscilla... I was referred to Petaluma Auto Craft by Maria at the Out West garage. I was told he could fix the leaking radiator on my Hyundai. She was right! The service was friendly, fast, and high in quality. What's more, the price was much more reasonable than the dealership's quote. When I picked my car up, I was told that I could bring it back anytime for a complimentary fluid level/air pressure check - a service offered to all clients. I've been here a few times with my old Audi when my regular mechanic was booked up and I needed to get in right away (dead battery, coolant leak & oil change). Nothing fancy - which, in my opinion, is a good thing for an auto shop - and they get the job done without any fuss and without trying to sell you something extra. When my son's Mazda 3 engine blew, Maria at Out West Garage recommended Petaluma Auto Craft. They are very personable, and even though this was a major expense, I didn't feel taken advantage of and they explained the probable cause of the engine failure (always check your oil!). They even suggested that the clutch be changed while the engine was out as it would save on labor costs in the future. Ends up that the clutch was near the end of it's useful life as well, so it all worked out. Larry and Dave are great guys and will take great care of your car. read more

These guys are great. I found them on Yelp and wasn't disappointed. Larry and Dave are really helpful and will go the extra mile to help you out. I started going to Petaluma Auto Craft with my old Chevy Blazer that was on it's last leg. Dave actually was the only mechanic ever to diagnose the problem correctly (he checked with his brother who also owns an auto shop and even took the problem to his automotive technician class). I now own a new car and go to them for oil changes and routine maintenance. I'm usually out within an hour --great service -- can't recommend them enough. read more

Great mechanic that you can trust and rely on. My mum is a widow in her sixties who knows nothing about cars and it is a huge relief that Larry is such a stand up guy who would never take advantage. Mum took her car in because a friend told her she needed complete break overhaul; after checking things it turned out that she only needed the pads replaced at a fraction of what she was expecting to pay. Extremely disappointed with Petaluma Auto Craft. I went to them due to the positive reviews and cannot say that I was impressed. I contacted them to ask if they worked on Saabs, which they indicated that they did. I brought in the vehicle and asked them to perform an inspection (as I had just driven it across country). They did do, gave it a clean bill of health, and charged me around $100. One week later, the car seized up in the middle of the 101. I had the car towed back to Petaluma Auto Craft at which point they noted that "they really aren't Saab experts." I was not pleased by their change of position. The spent a week trying to figure out what was wrong with the car. When they couldn't, they charged me another $100 and released the car to us. I took the car to Penner in Santa Rosa where they changed the throttle control and noted that they brake fluid was dirty, transmission fluid ws dirty, headbolts needed to be tightened and a number of other issues. Not sure what I paid Petaluma Auto Craft to inspect. Larry and his crew are, indeed, very nice guys. However, I felt very mislead. I would not call them "dishonest," but would say they could have been more "forthcoming" regarding their lack of expertise in working on Saabs. I could have saved time and money by going elsewhere first. Penner in Santa Rosa is a much better option. read more

Larry is a great guy. He explains everything. He'll show you the part that broke or wore out. He shops around a bit for your replacement part, so you get the best price. His rates are reasonable and the repair work is clean and fast. He schedules his elective repairs and leave adequate time for the drop in customers so everyone is happy. Had my tune up done here and it was done cheaper than the crappy wheel wurks, and just as good if not better than the dealership. These guys are great. My wife and I moved up from San Francisco a couple of years ago, where we had a great relationship with our local mechanic, so we were definitely nervous when it came time to find a new one. I've taken my Mercury Mountaineer in multiple times for a variety of issues over the past two years, and this place has consistently dealt with me straight up, and has done a solid job at a fair cost. Believe me, I've called around and priced different places, and AutoCraft has always been competitive. Plus, they communicate well, are honest, and have left me feeling very comfortable each time we've interacted. I recommend them, and would advise that you at least have a conversation if you are shopping around. I would bet they treat you right, and that they will do good work on your vehicle to boot.
