We drove back to Shawnee, our old stomping grounds, specifically to see if the steak at Santa Fe Cattle Co is just as good as we remembered it being. Spoiler alert: it was even better. I was a little concerned after reading some recent reviews that things might've gone downhill, but our experience was top-notch. Excellent and friendly service, steaks cooked exactly to order, ribeye prices much better than those found in the OKC area - no complaints here! Add in a bit of tornadic weather on the horizon and it made it feel like we were getting the full Shawnee experience. (Yes, we lived there during the 1998 - 1999 tornado era.) Definitely worth a quick trip out of OKC the next time you're in a mood for a great ribeye and some mashed potatoes or steak fries - both were superb! read more

We tried to eat here today. My daughter has a certified service animal. He has his badge in full view. We have taken him in this establishment 2-3 times weekly for over a year. We were not asked at all if he was a service animal they went straight to get manager and he came out and said they have changed their policy to no pets. Nobody asked if he was. Just assumed he wasn't. His badge is in full view. Manager Sam McKay is the one that failed his employees by not training them to be vigilant or have the knowledge to ask before assuming. Out of town visiting friends and looked for so where to grab dinner, they recommended Santa Fe Cattle. We didn't have to wait to be seated and customer service was pretty friendly. I wound up splitting the Wagon full with my friend which came with Steak, Ribs and Chicken. It also included two house salads and two sides, so we got the mashed potatoes and cinnamon apples. Visited this location on 7/28/24 for a late lunch with my sister. We immediately noticed they changed the menus & not in a good way as they are much harder to read (the pictures & text are now compressed in a small area) & harder to find our favorite items we usually order. The Raspberry Tea was good. I tried the Peach Lemonade for the first time & would order it again. Our waitress did tell us refills on both drinks would be an additional cost. We decided no on refills as most places we have eaten at recently, there is not an additional charge for refills. We ordered the Chips & Salsa which we both agreed we would not order again. The chips were stale & cold. They were supposed to be warm tortilla chips but were not. We decided to split the Santa Fe Club Sandwich. The club did not come with the chipotle mayonnaise on the club sandwich or on the side even though the menu said it did & the waitress asked us both if the chipotle mayonnaise was ok. The seasoned fries were not seasoned & were soggy & undercooked. We asked for a side of ranch & it was brought out after we had almost finished eating our meal. Santa Fe is one of the few options available on Sunday in the area. The service was lacking & the food wasn't very good when we visited. On the surface, it sounded like a nice dish that would have a good, smoky profile. However, I was having a giraffe. The steak tips were bland and unseasoned, swimming in a sea of grease and water from the bell peppers, onions, and cheese. Without the tips, it resembled a complex marshland next to a sewage plant. We asked for no eggs, no onion's, etc. She brought the check while we were still eating, after the check had been paid, THEN she asks if we want to go containers. The dressings, not so much. The chicken fried steak was good. Hand battered with extra pepper. The club sandwich was ok. The bread they use has a bitter after taste. It was NOT built correctly. Honestly it's a hit or miss with this restaurant. Before their remodel it was great. Since then everything has been bland-the decor, the service, the food, everything. The steaks are never cooked correctly. The service is inattentive. The only good things about it are the salad and rolls. I tried carry out for the first time, no problem ordering. When I get there they send me to the bar, which is weird in my opinion but no big deal until I couldn't even get anyone's attention at the bar. Employees walking around with nothing to do, couldn't find anyone to help or pay me the slightest attention until finally one nice (obviously busy) lady come to help me. I requested a medium rare ribeye and the steak was cooked to the appropriate temperature and had the appropriate amount of pink color throughout my steak, but the outside of my steak was still extremely tough. Wow! What a great place we found some locals told us about! Mother's Day out to dinner & only had to wait 15 minutes! I was impressed! First off our waitress Zoe was amazing & so sweet. They were out of a couple things that were popular & she was so apologetic. OMG the hot fresh bread that melts in your mouth & the cinnamon butter was incredible. We ordered the ribs & steak. My family and I recently moved to Shawnee Oklahoma and we have dined out quite a bit and must say our server Billy, was by far The BEST server we have had in Oklahoma and quite honestly the best we have had in several years . From the moment we were sat, we were greated with a smile and" Hi Y'all "she was friendly and enthusiastic about us being there . She spoke directly to our kids when taking our order, helped us with the menu, gave great suggestions and was super quick to get us refills and things we needed through out our dinner . I was so impressed I had to ask for the manager to come over so that I could let her know how pleased we were with everything and how amazing Billy is . I have ordered from this restaurant 3 times in the last two weeks. They have not wanted to take responsibility for any of their mistakes that occurred on each of these 3 orders. It is very hard to mess up a Taco Salad, but they seem to be great at messing it up. For example, they have added ranch dressing and boiled egg to the Taco Salad, left off the guacamole (that stuff is NOT cheap), left off the ground beef, and even left off the Taco Shell. They expect me to have Door Dash send out another person to pick up and deliver the left off food OR ask me to drive to their location at the mall. I spend approximately $10 more to have the food delivered. I do not recommend this location. read more

This was a great option close to the hotel I was staying at. The good things about this place: Great staff. We were sat right away and we were served by Amber, super sweet, very fast and she got our order perfect. The moderately good things: Dinner. The steak was okay, nothing special (I had the steak and rib combo) the cole slaw and mashed potato sides were edible but super boring and tasteless. BUT The ribs. Get the ribs. They were awesome. And the BBQ sauce they serve with them - spicy, sweet, hot, deliciousness! The challenging part: No good scotch. None. They had Johnny Walker and Dewers. Blech. BUT They did have a pretty solid selection of bourbons and whiskeys. And it was $3 Margarita night. Can't go wrong with a tequilia drink for three bucks. I read the other Yelpers before I went, but reading between the lines I could see most of the 1 star reviews had all the wrong expectations. I looked at the menu on their website, so I wasn't expecting Ruth's Chris's Steak House when the most expensive steak on the menu was less than $20 - WITH two side dishes. This was a fairly typical peanut-shells-on-the-floor steak house. It was a good value and close to our hotel. The server was friendly and sweet, but when I ordered a glass of wine she said she didn't know if they had wine! I found it on the menu and pointed out the one I wanted and she came back a few minutes later and said they didn't have that one. They did have my 2nd choice and all was well. We each had a steak that came with 2 sides and we were able to sub a side salad for one of the sides- it was enormous, plenty to split for 2 people. The steak was nothing special, and the green beans appeared to be out of a can, but the baked sweet potato was delicious, perfectly cooked with lots of butter and cinnamon on top. Since Shawnee had a nice weather break in July, we decided to take full advantage and enjoy time in their dining outside. The weather was the only thing nice, and if course my husband. The tables were not cleaned from previous guests and the staff done nothing about them while we there. There was a table of 4 and us and it 2 in the afternoon. We ordered the cajun chicken pasta and cajun pork chop. The chicken in the pasta would have been better had it been chicken and real. The broccoli on the other plate was the only appealing thing. The taste was ok for both meals. Their margaritas are awful! ! I had a patron margarita that came in a martini glass and no salt for over $9. Their "special" rita does come with salt but no liquor, or very little, for like $2. They are just as awful. It must be the sweet and sour mix but beware, it's super sweet. You'd expect a steakhouse to know how to cook a steak. These guys can't unless a manager is standing over them apparently. I've eaten here several times and didn't have a good experience the last time, either. We even know the "trick" of ordering your steak one "doneness" below what you normally like just because you're likely to have them get it right the first time. Our last experience left my husband with a still-cold rare and me with a medium well that was to have been medium rare. This was over a year ago. Flash forward to our experience last night - 1. Booster seats without functioning safety straps. Our child kept trying to slip under the table the entire meal. We had to use the booster seat because we couldn't get the highchair close enough to the raised booth for him to eat. (We'd called ahead and told them we'd need a highchair. You'd think that they'd have gotten us a table instead of an elevated booth. They weren't that busy.) Lesson - specify a table if you have active squirmy small ones. 2. Food-crusted silverware. We had to go through two sets before we all had something suitable to eat with when our food came. My husband and I have both worked in restaurants and both of our fathers even owned or managed them, so we understand that some times an industrial dishwasher leaves soap residue. These had cheese and other crusty not-so-identifiables on them. I did have to rub on most of them to get the residue off. 3. My husband's steak was fine, his sweet potato warm enough, but was obvious that his fries weren't freshly cooked since they were limp and lukewarm. 4. My steak? Well done despite being ordered medium rare. I usually eat mine actual medium rare to medium. Seriously, it's sad that this place self-styles as a "steakhouse". Once I received my correctly-cooked one, it was very delicious though. After all this you may be wondering why I gave them two stars instead of one. Our server was polite and gracious regarding the kitchen's short-comings and we promptly got a replacement for my steak (husband never mentioned the fries to her so she can hardly be held accountable for a problem she wasn't given an opportunity to fix) and gave us a discount for the error with my steak (we hadn't even asked for one.) She'd even gone through all of the booster seats to look for one with an intact safety strap (which they didn't have.) Her service was what saved this from being a one-star review. read more

We have tried this location 5 times in the past year. I finally gave up ordering the steak because every time without fail it was tough and either mine or my wife's was over cooked. The last time I tried the fajitas and they were just ok but really bland but the service was poor and he brought us rolls that were almost burned. All the other serving of rolls that I saw was delivered to other tables was nice and golden brown and soft when ours were dry and chewy. Our steaks came out with an enormous cold slab of butter on top. Tried spreading it around to melt it but it was too much and cold. I ended up scraping as much as I could to the side which resulted in a huge mess and an ugly plate. Every bite of steak felt like it was coated in wax. I finally flipped it over to help the butter left on the steak melt, and after that the steak was quite good.
