What a great business ! Couldn't recommend this business enough. Called and left a message about getting a new pump installed for the fountain at my business in Santa Barbara. Mark answered and said he would be right over . Expected the normal we can get to you in a week or two. Wasn't the case with Mark and Santa Barbara Koi! Quote was given and the job was finished within days. Thanks again!! read more

Very nice owners, knowledgeable and very nice pond plants. They don't try to sell you things you don't need. They believe in a natural pond without additives. I just cleaned, drained and refilled my pond, hopefully with the plants I purchased from SB Koi, it will stay looking good. read more

Santa Barbara Koi - Happy Koi - Pool & Hot Tub Service Near Me - Santa Barbara, California

We adore Mark Davis's Santa Barbara Koi company! Beyond Five Stars if i could....as the old saying goes, we love this company to the moon and back. #SeeviceStarShoutOut Mark diagnosed and solved some very serious issues that a different company had created due to improper pool/fountain chemistry, improper heater installation, improper maintenance, improper sand filter install. The improper heater installation could have lead to poisoning...literally we were red-flagged and could not use the heater until the venting was done properly. I am not exaggerating, Mark may very well have saved our lives! Like a previous reviewer, who advised they would give him 10 stars plus, we echo the sentiments. If every business could be as diligent, responsive knowledgeable and honest as Mark, the world would truly be a better place. Mark knows pools, fountains, koi ponds and warranty issues. He clearly enjoys his field and if you are lucky, you will learn he has a real passion for horticulture as well. SB Koi is THE go to warranty & part suppliers for a huge portion of the SB County pool service people. If you have a warranty issue, your pool tech will likely be told to go to SB Koi by the part/equipment manufacturer. The old adage "A stitch in time, serves nine" Is so applicable here. If he had only had Mark working with us, we would have saved thousands and thousands of dollars. Our previous pool maintenance companies horrible chemistry imbalances ruined our fountain color, led to early failure of the pool cover, tile issues, heater issues and more. We owe a huge debt of gratitude to Mark and his team. Thank you! And to anyone looking for a first time consultation, service or a second opinion on your pool/pond/spa, you have come to the right place. Mark is solutions focused. He is very busy but if you are in need, he will be there. He has given us not just solutions but peace of mind. read more

Mark did not design our pond, but he assessed its issues upon being called in to plant it. He was efficient in doing so, explaining to us why some changes needed to be made. Three years later, we are very happy with the annual repotting/fertilizing of the three water lilies we chose, and trimming back other plants that have become overgrown during the winter months. Very happy with Mark, Jill and their staff! read more

I can't say enough how much I appreciate the folks at Santa Barbara Koi, especially Mark. I bought a lilly plant from them last year for our koi pond. They were so helpful in working through which one was best for our pond and then going forward, as I've had questions both about the lilly plant as well as care for my koi pond. They go above and beyond to help, which I so much appreciate. read more

Have never written TWO 5 Star reviews for a company But Santa Barbara Koi and Pool Seervice deserves TWO ! I was stranded again Thanksgiving giving weekend, day before Thanksgiving with Guests excited to use the Hot Tub Spa under the Country stars...when the Spa would not heat past 59! So with only a shred of hope, I called Mark in the morning, can he fix it?? Yes, it would be tight, but he would send out his guys to fix. I then told him the heater had been leaking water underneath& my pool cleaner had said it may be dead! Could he install a new propane heater if it is ? Mark said he would try to recoup old heater first, which his men did, but the old heater was a 2011 and really dead! Last minute, Santa Barbara Koi and Pool saved me again ! Have a new heater at an excellent price ! and I'm very relieved of Stress ! This is a company I trust as they strive to be honest first and professional ! If I could give them 10 Stars I would ! Mark and his team are diligent and care about their customers. They have made sure our del aop 50 oxidizer is working well.

I had a fantastic experience working with Mark at Santa Barbara Koi. They're not my regular pool cleaners, however, my Jandy RS 4 Controller had an issue necessitating warranty service so I was put in contact with them through my pool cleaner as Santa Barbara Koi works directly with Jandy. Mark was very reassuring when I phoned him that my issue would be covered under warranty. He was incredibly friendly on the phone and informed me that I could phone or text him any time. He immediately put in the replacement order and put me on his schedule. Less than a week later Ozzy from Santa Barbara Koi was out to verify the issue and to replace the Controller board. Ozzy was fantastic making quick work of the replacement, and reprogramming the new controller to my satisfaction. He even made a few suggestions for improvement to how my controller was wired that would free up a relay. At the end of the day everything was working as intended. As someone who is fairly handy, I appreciated both Mark and Ozzy taking the time to understand my observations with the faulty controller, and answering my questions to the level of detail I was requesting. It is clear that Mark and his team are very knowledgeable of the Jandy products (likely others as well). After the repair service, I received a couple of follow up calls to ensure things were continuing to operate as expected. It is comforting to have those check-ins, which shows me Mark and his team take great pride in their work. Overall, I am incredibly pleased with Mark and Santa Barbara Koi. While I hope to not have a regular need for warranty related issues, I know I'll be in good hands with them when I do. I'd absolutely use Santa Barbara Koi for my regular service as well if I didn't already have a trusted friend providing that service Thanks for getting my controller fully working again Santa Barbara Koi! read more

what an amazing company. sorted my fountain and maintained it impeccably six stars

My pool service man gave me Mark's name as someone that might be able to fix my pool app issue. When I called Mark to explain what the problem was, he not only was reassuring that they would come take a look and try and fix it, he was incredibly kind! He was committed to figuring out a way to send one of his employees out to fix the issue as soon as possible, even though they were busy. Not only was Mark beyond kind, but his employee Josh (who did fix the system BTW!--that no one else could fix for over a year!!), was also super kind! If I could give more than 5-stars to Santa Barbara Koi, I would! They are the epitome of an upstanding, thoughtful, and caring hometown businesses! They did not need to help me--I am not their client; but they did anyway! Thank you again so much, Mark and Josh! Debbie read more

Fantastic service and by far the most knowledgeable in Santa Barbara. I felt welcome and was greeted warmly by the employees and owners the first time I walked through the door. Marks professional attitude was much appreciated as we solved my ponds problem quickly and got it up and running within 48 hours. His wife was super sweet and helpful as well. Love the variety of products they have as well as the paradisiac sample ponds. Can't wait to build my next water feature with SB Koi leading the way. Extremely satisfied customer read more

I have a pool with a Jandy system. It was being serviced by a company called Wet Feet Pools. Was being service is the key here. After several problems with them, Jandy connected me with Santa Barbara Koi. What a difference. I called them, and that afternoon they had a crew at my house to check things out. They have picked up the ball and are working on fixing someone else's work and are happy to do so. Their communication is off the charts good and Mark, who I have been talking to has treated me like a ten year customer. They are the Jandy dealer for Santa Barbara County and for sure the best pool provider period. No company likes to clean up another company's mess, but these guys just do their job and do it well. My only mistake is I did not find them sooner. Only thought they did Koi ponds and not general pool service too. I don't write many recommendations, but then I don't often experience blow away service. These guys are the best. read more

Mark is great. I purchased a house with a small pond and a waterfall, and he helped me decide which plants I need to make it look beautiful while keeping the water clear and naturally preventing algae growth. He went out of his way to help me with every step of the process so I can learn how to take care of the pond myself, and he checked in to see that everything's going well. Really unbeatable knowledge and service and very fair prices. I can't recommend SB Koi highly enough. read more

We came from out of town in search of other fish stores to look for driftwood for our fish tank. We searched up the shops here in Santa Barbara and saw Santa Barbara Koi. Believing they would have cured wood since the have supplies for ponds. The moment we walked up we were asked if we needed help, we explained what we were looking for and was rudely told by the lady that they don't have anything other then pond supplies.(wouldn't that includ decor like wood)Seemed as if she didn't want us there because we are young. I'm leaving a one star because of the way we weren't able to looked around due to the direct and rude answer given to us just because the way we look. read more

great knowledgeable folk who are eager to help you with any of your pond problems.

I do most of my work myself, but despite that, Mark and Santa Barbara Koi have been helping me for something like 15 years (or more). I don't buy Koi very often, but ALWAYS buy them from Mark. I know that his fish are healthy and disease free. The Koi food there, both color enhancing and medicated, is excellent. My point is that Mark, and everyone else at SB Koi, REALLY does CARE about you. They will help you and follow up. They will not try to oversell you on anything. It would be nice if all businesses were like this! read more

For the past five years, Santa Barbara Koi has been my go-to place for koi, food and koi pond maintenance. I've tried other service providers in this space, but none comes close to Santa Barbara koi for value, knowledge and attention to detail. Mark is always willing to take the time to explain the ins and outs of koi to his clients, and I've found his recommendations inevitably spot-on. In addition, he as a direct connection to Japan for the best live animals and techniques for raising them. I recommend SB Koi without reservation to anyone serious (or even casual) about koi. . read more

From eyesore to a thing of beauty and peace... I had a big, ancient, ugly hot tub that took up about a third of my patio--an eyesore. I had this idea of converting it into a pond. I considered a DIY pond project, but I kept having visions of creating a mosquito infested swamp-black lagoon-kind of thing. So, one Saturday afternoon I showed up at Santa Barbara Koi to present my idea. To my delight Mark took my idea seriously and mapped out a strategy (like does it still hold water, etc.) and we proceeded from there. The end result is fabulous. Mark's design, plant selection and placement are perfectly scaled for both the pond and its environment. The project was completed within the time frame and budget we had discussed. It was such a pleasure to work with Mark and his pond team-- knowledgeable experts with integrity who clearly love what they do. Bonus points: I was presented with an invoice only after everything was in and Mark had checked that all was flourishing. Now, a third of my patio is a thing of beauty that brings me enormous pleasure! read more

Our koi pond and fish were in distress due to a mis-hap with a brand of salt we put in the pond. We were losing fish that we had owned for years and were heart broken. We called Mark and he not only showed up at our ranch (a good 30 miles away) and figured out what was wrong, but followed up with calls for weeks following. He actually CARES about what he does! This business and owner are a Five star with out a doubt. They will help you with any of your questions/needs and will only recommend/sell you what is best for you, your Koi, or pond. I make my purchases on line and in person when I am in that area. If your like me and want to feed your Koi the very best you will get hooked with their own Santa Barbara Koi food brand. I just to feed my Koi Saki-Hikari, but when I tried their store brand because of its ingredients my fish loved it. I am also happy to buy it since it is a lot cheaper than Saki-Hikari. Also, the owner Mark is outstanding when it comes to understanding how important your Koi are to you. He is not a 9 to 5 guy that is only available during those hours. If you have urgent questions or concerns after hours, you can drop him a line by email from their web cite and he gets back to you very fast. If it is a matter that is urgent he will call you or just give you his cell phone number for you to call him. Let me give you an example of the type of business owner that Mark is. About 2 weeks ago I purchased a new Koi from another reputable Koi dealer. The dealer also sold me per their recommendation proform-c to treat the pond with new Koi even though my Koi or pond did not have any signs of parasites. . Well by the 3rd day all my Koi had a bad rash on them. This sight took me to a stressful/worried stage. The dealer was not available and it took him 4 days to get back to me. Since there was no way I was going to wait that long I started doing on line research which would keep me up till 2 in morning at times. I also started calling various people/businesses that specialized with Koi but it didn't help since I kept on getting different opinions. It was not till I called Mark who took the time to talk to me about my problem who's opinion made sense. He has been working with me now for about a week since my entire Eco system with Koi are in bad shape. Now let me ask you this, when was the last time a business owner helped you with a problem that was not his or with a situation that was a result of someone Else's product? Santa Barbara Koi cares for people and their Koi. read more

Given the chance, I would give Mark Davis and his Team "10 points out of 5 possible." This is a great company and Mark has unbelievable knowledge. I have been dealing with him for over 10 years, and should have just let him handle the design, construction, and maintenance of my pond from the start. I am a "Do It Yourself Person" and have learned a LOT about pond design, maintenance, and the Do's and Don'ts. Unfortunately, I have lost lots of fish in the process, and it didn't have to be that way. Mark has always been helpful when I have called to ask questions, mostly after the fact when I had a disaster. Example: auto fill valve for water in pond....I had a dual redundancy system and all valves failed at the same time. I lost four large koi. In talking to Mark, he indicated NEVER to allow an auto fill system to do more than just drip into the pond over time...That way, if it fails, you never kill fish. Well, that was easy:). I have also viewed some of Mark's pond designs, some of them having been put in place over 20 years ago....they are SPECTACULAR!!! Don't hesitate to use this company. They are a class act. I bought a "fixer" home with both a Koi pond and pool. Having never owned either, there was a learning curve. The pond had been neglected for years and the pool service company which I continued from the previous owner was doing an inadequate job. After close of escrow, I quickly realized I was losing water from the pond at a faster than normal evaporation rate. In my search for a qualified service to resolve my pond issues, I found Santa Barbara Koi (Mark and Jill are co-owners). Mark visited my home and assessed the situation. I found him to be knowledgeable, experienced, courteous, and ethical. He offered a range of advice on pond care, a recommended plan of attack to not only resolve the water loss issue, but also to make minor design changes that would result in improved pond health. Mark, Jill and their team successfully performed the challenging pond repair. Mark also offered useful information about upgrading my pool equipment, and provided me with "knowledge of the trade" to help me better maintain my pool since I let my previous pool service go. They did a quality job replacing the dated pool equipment that both lowered my energy bill and enables me to control my pool equipment remotely. When seeking a reputable company for service, installation, and repair I recommend you speak with Mark and Jill at Santa Barbara Koi. read more

I contacted them, after hours from Chicago, because when I returned home at the end of an extraordinarily hot business day in Illinois, the Koi pond had an algae bloom and all the fish were gasping for air at the surface of the murky pond. When my panic set in when all the fish pond/service businesses in the state were closed for the day and unable to get answers, my sister said to contact Santa Barbara Koi- surely their business day is not over as they are on pacific time. Thank goodness I did. They could not have been more helpful!!! They were able to talk me through emergency measures that allowed an exchange of clear water at a reasonable rate, an unorthodox way to immediately oxygenate the pond and a way to save all the koi (sans one, that sadly did not make it...). Not only did they talk me through it, they followed up with multiple texts making certain that I had the facts from our phone conversation as I went to the hardware store to get what I needed and then, later, directions on how to install and place the equipment until I could get my professionals in the next morning. Not only that, they reviewed pictures of my pond and systems and made suggestions on how to prevent this potential tragedy in the future. I am so grateful that they were there and willing to take the time to assist someone- despite the fact that I am not even in their market area and they will never be able to make money from me. I think that this speaks to their integrity and and their commitment to their profession. read more
