I began seeing Dr. Bajramovic 25 years ago at Northwestern, then in private practice on Michigan Avenue. At first, I was very happy with her care and even referred her to friends. I felt great.
Then, I noticed her bedside manner was poor and she always ran late. But I felt good, so I kept going.
Then, when I approached midlife, I experienced a range of serious symptoms. Heart palpitations, extreme weight loss, hair loss. She hadn't educated me about what to expect during these years or that my thyroid should be checked more frequently when these changes occurred. She also didn't warn me that hypothyroid patients are at higher risk for osteoporosis.
I kept asking for HRT, but she never explained why she didn't recommend it, or what my options were. She just said to take vitamins.
I finally found an OBGYN who specializes in hormonal issues. She immediately ordered a bone density scan, and I had developed osteoporosis at a young age. She also walked me through the pros and cons of HRT and recommended dietary changes.
My osteoporosis probably could have been prevented or delayed had I been with a more attentive practitioner. Dr. Bajramovic has pretty much checked out; barely does the minimum. On top of it, she has high staff turnover; they rarely return messages in a timely manner, and she doesn't use Epic, it got exhausting transferring my medical records to her all the time.
I wish I had seen another endocrinologist during my vulnerable years of hormonal change. Now I've suffered irreversible damage.
If you are a new patient considering seeing her, I highly recommend you seek care elsewhere. If you are a current patient, I recommend you switch to someone who has expertise in hormonal issues. I just wish I had switched a long time ago. read more
