So tonight the Other Half said "let's go for something to eat. Where do you want to go?". Now this is a leading question because we eat predominantly Indian Vegetarian whenever we go out to eat. Now I hope you don't think this is cheating but I have a Tastecard so, during the week, we can get 50% off or 2 for 1 meals. So we called them (as sometimes you have to for certain restaurants participating in this scheme) and booked a table and jumped in the car ( we only live live 5 minutes away!). OK, so the signage that I passed was on Headstone Lane. It turns out it's actually tucked away down a side turning called Broadfields. Turning into, and driving down Broadfields, it seems unprepossessing, I mean it's at the end of a a cul-de-sac which doesn't look like it leads anywhere!!!! There was a large gate at the bottom, which was half open, with a large sign announcing Broadfields Country Club and Mumbai Gardens Restaurant. Once we drove through the gates, it was rather hard to work out where we were meant to go. There was a building immediately in front of us (very much the back of it) so we drove to the right only to find that THAT definitely wasn't the front of the building. Turned round and drove round the other side, which seemed equally devoid of life. We parked and walked along the patio and found a door that opened..... into a room the size of a football pitch (ok maybe I'm exaggerating just a little)! It was a really nice, huge room, modern glass-topped tables and pretty, high-backed chairs and three waitresses standing at the back and, er, waiting. We ordered drinks, starters and two curries together with jeera rice and peshwari naan. They ask if you want your food made mild or medium, which was quite welcome. The food was very nice, good portions although seemed all to have been cooked in the same sauce. In conclusion, the food is very nice, the staff attentive and caring. It's a nice venue although the ambience was sadly lacking as we were the only ones there until half an hour before we left. The main shortcoming was the lack of clear signage on the building with regard to parking and to indicate the restaurant entrance. If you didn't know it was there, you would never know the restaurant existed and I don't see how it will stay in business without attempting to advertise and get it noticed a lot more!

Fresh flavors that taste like home…read more While visiting London we stopped at 222 Veggie Vegan. This is a small cozy restaurant, with a menu that has something to satisfy everyone, from salads to stir-fries, to burgers. We tried a variety of dishes during our visit, and each dish was full of flavor with a homemade feeling. Additionally, portions are decent and dishes go for around 12 pounds. So if you are in London, and want a meal that is full of flavor, that feels like eating in the comfort of home, 222 Vegan is an excellent choice for the price. My Criteria 5 stars: The best food I have ever had, or an excellent option given the price. 4 stars: Good food, a restaurant I look forward to trying again. 3 stars: Good food, a restaurant that I am indifferent to. 2 stars: Below average experience, will not go again. 1 stars: This restaurant should be closed.

(I'm actually shaking my head right now) As a restaurant thought this place is lovely, very informal canteen style with a nice selection of homemade veggie dishes that you don't often get in traditional Indian places. The menu might be tempting as it has a wide variety of stuff like Dosas and Indo-Chinese but there are a tons of good places near by who specialises in these kind of food. The buffet is around £12 and has a number of stuff but there is no logic or pattern. They do Indian Street Food (Chat) as well as Pizza! Indian starters and mains like Dal, Aloo Gobi (a Potato Cauliflower Curry) and Chilly Paneer (Indian Cottage Cheese) accompanied by Rice and Roti. Some of the dishes are good e.g. Chilli Paneer and some are not so good. Overall an average experience. This is not a fine dining establishment and go here only if you are curious about Indian vegetarian food and you happen to be in the area and remember to go for the buffet! Also, I don't believe they have a bar. Three stars only because for £12 buffet is a good value for money. I am told by my local friends who grew up around here that Sakonis is not what it used to be - guess they should know better. Three stars because I cannot bring myself to give a 2.
