As I'm still to scared to go out to eat, here's another London restaurant that I used to frequent…read more The Green Cottage was my parents favourite place. It's been there for 20 years plus which in London is a recommendation in and of itself. I don't usually have starters but it's quite impossible not to order the crispy lamb. So succulent beneath the crisp exterior. Followed by Cantonese roast duck and/or crispy belly pork. Sensational, especially the pork. Or, even though it's Cantonese, they do Peking Crispy Duck which you can have either as a starter or main. Dried crispy shredded beef with Chili is another favourite. Service is friendly and the price very reasonable. A great mix of styles. Highly recommend. Easy to get to by tube or bus.

Oh my! Have to…read moreconfess that I was not expecting this place-- which I once ate at 25 years ago -- to be this good but it is among the favorite Chinese food meals I've had. The "25" for food on Zagats seems spot on while the decor is nothing special. The service was good and even replaced a soup which I misordered. Speaking of soups, the hot and sour soup was outstanding-- some of the finest I've had. And I've had literally dozens of them. Not too heavy on the pepper, it was chock full of yummy vegetables and pork. Loved this soup. The main dishes were all knockouts but the crispy half duck and the veal with salt were among he standouts. But I could also have the chow mein and the fried scallops too. Overall, an excellent example of how a Chinese restaurant can stick around through the years and still reinvent itself each day. Hurray!

Seriously avoid. Unless you want mediocre crispy Beijing duck. I have two good friends who…read moreregularly come here and I have had the pleasure to do so several times as well. I use the word pleasure only in association with their company. Not the food. What I mean to say is I have given this place multiple chances but every time I think it can redeem itself it disappoints. Everything about this place reeks with mediocrity. The duck is the reason my friends visit - they love it. I have had better Beijing Kaoya and even if it is palatable it's certainly not worth the ridiculous prices they charge. It maybe because I have high standards for Chinese cuisine having lived in China that I feel this restaurant represents everything that is wrong about Chinese restaurants in the west. Overly commercialised dim sum, oily egg fried rice , trying to hard to assimilate for western taste and not sticking true to raw Chinese flavours. Whilst my friends likely still go for the duck I cannot be part of this overpriced and underwhelming experience. Sorry Goldfish but you have to better.

Contrary to what this page may say (depending on the time of reading). This place is very much open…read more:) The place is right in the midst of the trendy part of Hampsted with your coffee and cake shops. It's almost a little out of place, but nicely so. On weekends they do a Dim Sum buffet. This includes a nice selection of Dim Sum, some chinese takeaway type items like noodles, prawn toast, ribs, egg fried rice and sweet and sour chicken. This is brought to your table automatically like at Big Easy so you get a selection of everything. The items are served 3 at a time which is perfectly decent. I counted around 8-9 various dim sum/fried items including a yummy sticky rice leaf along with everything else mentioned. The Siu Mai was the best I've ever had and everything was top quality and apparently made by the chefs. We finished off pretty much from the first round and the staff were excellent and attentive. Never trying to rush you out. On the contrary, constantly asking if there was anything more we'd like and even noting and topping up water/drinks as required. Top notch service and unlike what you normally expect in Chinatown. Well after order about 50% more food which I'll be honest, was mostly eaten by myself, we were ready to grab the bill when we were told if we'd like our buffet dessert served to us. My heart sank a little. I didn't know there would be dessert! Had I saved enough room? We were told the options. One was a custard bun. Meh. The next was chinese brown sugar cake. Then an interesting nut cake. We ordered that and it was excellent. Like a cross between a fruit cake and a christmas pudding. Would I recommend this place? Absolutely. It may be a little on the pricier side when you factor in the cost of individual dishes. But as an all-you-can-eat affair, the convenience, service and wide array of selections definitely saves you any hassles. You just need to find a space to put it. If you're one that can eat, this can certainly end up being a great experience and more!

I guess this is because its the closest to the Indian-Chinese food that he grew up with. I ordered via Hungry House which had an offer of free prawn crackers for bills above 15, but if you call them directly, they offer free dishes on each bill threshold. The food arrived quite quickly and was piping hot. The crackers were packed separately, so they hadn't crumbled. Quantities are large & prices are low, yet it is high on taste and quality. A perfect combination for takeaways & home delivery. The only 2 dishes that fell in the middling range were the pork dumplings because their wrapping was on the thicker side and the Thai red curry, that was more of a side dish than a curry. They tasted good, but did not meet my expectations, especially compared to the rest of the food. The roast pork fried rice and the chicken chowmein were very good, with lots of flavour and tender meat. Not too oily (the bane of many takeaway chowmeins) The sweet & sour chicken hong kong style was yummy and the first time that I was able to eat pineapple added in sweet and sour dishes because it wasnt too sweet or sour or squishy. The kung po pork with chilli was the standout dish of the day. Just the right amount of chilli without going over the top. Really loved the food from May's & I'm guessing that we will be ordering in from here whenever someone is in the mood for Chinese :) #YelpEveryDamnDay
