Wow does this place need some help! I am so sad to write this review because this place was a staple in our book for so long, but today was bad enough that I am sure we will not come back. The wait here has always been long due to the size of the place, but today it was due to poor training and staffing. We walked in and these two girls are shouting at guests they are the only people working today and there is going to be a wait. Of course I sympathize. A few small tables are sat quickly but everyone else is told to wait. A party of 6 told them they were on a schedule and the waitresses told them it was fine. Being a small group we got sat, but there was a lobby FULL of people who stood there while we ate our whole breakfast. There were about 5 open tables but the waitresses didn't try to bus them and were running around like crazy and returning to the kitchen time and again empty handed. Eventually they shouted to the waiting area of people they were going to bus the whole restaurant (seriously) and seat everyone at once. Obviously no training here at all because the kitchen must have had no orders for 30-45mins and all of a sudden are going to get hit with a whole restaurant of orders at once so now the wait worsens - what a mess. The table of 6 that arrived at the same time as us was sat as we were finishing, but we never served. They left un-fed after an hour and a half. The food was fine but there was no excuse for the wait (forgot to mention this is a Monday at like 10:30 so not a breakfast or lunch rush happening, also not a weekend). This place has always been a dive and totally falling apart in regards to decor but it was forgivable because the food was good. I feel bad for writing this because those poor girls were working hard but they are completely untrained and the place was understaffed. There are SO MANY fantastic new restaurants in Leavenworth they are really going to have to step up their game to survive!! read more

Greasy spoon right off the main drag in Leavenworth. Location is somewhat small, so don't expect a lot of room when dining. Decorated like your grandma's kitchen - no real theme, save for just stuff on the walls - not usually a big deal for me, but for some reason it was super distracting. Staff was friendly and they were constantly on the circuit with coffee warm-ups and water. Half and half are in the tiny containers - can I get my half and half in a dispenser please. Traditional breakfasts - heavy, buttery, greasy, meaty and decent portions. The food was good - but nothing really stood out. I had the chicken fried steak and the gravy was bland - no spice, or even a hint of pepper. For a waffle haus - the waffles were a bit soggy and didn't have that crisp which really holds syrup. Stopped in on the morning of 10/10/20 for a quick bite, AND IT WAS PERFECT! The pumpkin waffle is probably the best waffle I've ever had, and my chicken fried steak was cooked to a perfect crisp. The dining room was safely spaced & decorated for Oktoberfest. The food came quick & hot, and the service was the best, constantly checking on us & refilling beverages. Though I didn't have one, the mimosas looked refreshing! I didn't look up the reviews before stopping in, but I'm disappointed that they aren't ranked higher. I am hoping she was just forgetful of how many tables she had instead of not wanting to help the table (our table) full of POC. I wish I had saw the reviews first! People are saying don't listen to the reviews, but you actually should. Or maybe this is the type of place that is a hit or miss. It has also changed ownership in recent years and then switched back to previous owners. There are good and bad reviews under both owners. The bulk of this review is going to cover their food alone. Their service was good, no wait to be seated and lots of different staff going around to give coffee/water refreshers. Our visit was on a Monday (MLK day) around 10:30am give or take and we were gone in less than an hour. I ordered the Belgian waffle with apples. I thought there was a chance my apples might be the canned variety, but I guess I didn't realize how poor quality they could be and how much "goop" vs apples I would actually get. I picked my waffle up to scrape off the goop and whip cream onto a side plate, but with the deep waffle cavities holding more in, that wasn't good enough. I should have just stuck to butter and syrup. I could only eat 2-3 bites. Both waffles were lukewarm, which was surprising considering the regular waffle was darn brown/burnt. Do wait staff see the burntness of an item and just not care? They just serve it and put it on the patron to send it back if they don't like it? I feel like if it were me, I'd be embarrassed to serve that to someone. Anyways, moving on...The bacon was thin, crispy, good enough for me and my scrambled egg was fine. My husband ordered the regular waffle with German sausage, OM egg and a side of hashbrowns. We both did not like the taste/texture of their German sausage (I actually had to spit my bite back out into a napkin), so it didn't get eaten. He only ate 1/4 of his burnt waffle before giving up. His egg was fine as well, but he enjoyed the hashbrowns the most; typical, greasy diner hashbrowns. What really blew us away was the total of our bill. We're not the type of people who typically complain about food we don't like and feel bad when it comes up and they end up taking it off our bill. My husband had his card ready before the bill came, so our waitress didn't give us an itemized receipt, just grabbed his card and kept walking. I think my meal was about $15 with a $3 drink. My husband's was $13 plus hashbrowns ($?) and $2 coffee. Our bill was $45+ so that means the hashbrowns and tax for everything was $12??! $9 hashbrowns?! We didn't give it much thought until we got back to our car so that was on us for not saying anything while we were there. But we had to have been charged for wrong item or they mixed our receipt up with another table. The hostess brought our card and receipt back to us when it was our waitress who took it and the hostess walked past our table to another table first, almost gave them our card and then came back to give it to us. It was an odd exchange, so I wouldn't be surprised if she mixed them up. Regardless, $45 + tip for food we barely ate was the last hard to swallow thing about this place. read more

On June 26, 2023, my wife and I ate breakfast at this restaurant. I had the waffle, egg, bacon and hot coffee; my wife had breakfast sandwich on a pretzel roll. Décor is simple. Host was welcoming, informative by suggesting we look at the menu first and waitress was top notch. Waitress brought us water and drinks very quickly after being seated. Food was delicious, properly cooked and hot. Syrup and additional topping were also available and inquired by server. Waitress filled my water, coffee and soda several times before we left. It's exactly what a person wants in pre-pandemic service. We've been on a two week road trip so we are well versed in substandard service as a baseline. I will dine here on future visits to Leavenworth. Good job and much appreciated! read more

The process of our group's experience became a running joke. The other couple we were dining with insisted on dining here because there was a big wait last time they visited town on a Sunday. They ended up passing because of hunger. So we hit is on a Saturday for brunch. No line, no wait, no problem. But after dining, I can only equate their line experience to how a Denny's could be packed after a baseball game gets out. Everything about this experience for our group missed, from food to service. The hollandaise was like a ready-mix gravy that the line cook couldn't even bother to mix smooth. Grainy. Glad I sampled that first. Ugh, Sysco dry mixes of hollandaise are nasty. I'm not a big "sweet breakfast" kind of person, so I backed off brunch to a lunch menu. Fish and chips. My friend went with the savory chicken fried steak. So Denny's became the running joke, except that the prices didn't match. Low-cost salad mix dumped on a plate, served with a messy dressing cup they couldn't even bother to get into the cup. My photo is how it was delivered, like they filled the cup just a tad too full with a 2 gallon jug, and then poured some back. Eeeewwww. Fries, somehow less than basic. My fish serving, somehow both slightly undercooked and overcooked. So weird. Were they all stacked on top of each other? The coffee was more like tea. Who is running this show? Now, service can be highly variable and it doesn't make the food. Our server won't likely be yours. But our server didn't refill beverages unless asked (walked past empty water and coffee cups without even looking), didn't clear plates until the meal was done, and lacked professional ability or concern. When my fish and chips was handed to me and she promptly left, I just stacked it on top of my salad plate after the server left. Waffles, chicken fried steak, or strawberry creepe, no one in our group really thought the food was better then Denny's. Just WAY more expensive. Just a disappointment. NEW ownership as of a couple weeks ago!! Loved our breakfast and the portions were huge. Perfect after a evening of too much beer. Our server happened to be the new owner. The Daylight Savings Time change had customers clamoring to come in earlier than usual and she happily accommodated. She was very busy but still had time to be personable with us. She even took our special requests for extras because 'a la carte' items were not listed on the menu. We ordered THE Impossible (I think it's called), its new, it's basically sausage, bacon, biscuits and eggs smothered in country gravy. Definitely too much to finish. My brother ordered the big scramble and he gobbled up the whole plate. But he usually finishes his entire plate. My Sister in Law ordered the french toast and was happily impressed with its size and flavor. Our meals all came out promptly and our drinks were always full. Visiting the area for a large concert at the Gorge. Found this little spot for breakfast. Everything was very good. The kids meals were the perfect size for me. Loved the hash browns and German sausage. My sunny-side up egg was no where near the runniness to be called so, but maybe that's what the locals prefer. Staff was adequate, but could use some more personality. Look really needs to be updated. I would stop by again. You should too. -- Oh! Came back to edit because I forgot the sourdough toast! We were grateful to find a place for breakfast while in Leavenworth, but the meal just didn't match the cost. I paid $38 plus tip for two orders of one waffle, bacon, and two large coffees. We were walking the town and thought that this was a cute place so maybe the food will be good! We were WRONG!!! We went in and after just glancing st the menu I was disappointed. I wanted to just throw it back into the kitchen! We were a little skeptical coming in and seeing the reviews but we decided to take a risk and try this place out because I remember coming here as a kid and it being a good restaurant We were very surprised by the quick service. The food came out quickly and was very delicious! I had the turkey blt with fries and their haus made ranch. So yummy and the fries were perfectly crispy. My boyfriend has the ham melt with a salad which were amazing. Our fried Katie had the classic breakfast and was also delicious. We also ordered mimosas which seemed a little pricy but was worth every cent. Lots of champagne and a good size. Please give this place a chance! No picture because we are it so quickly! I will preface this by saying when we first sat down our waiter asked us for patience due to the restaurant having a new computer system. So I guess we were warned. But I was expecting maybe an extra 15-30 minutes for our food... it took us an hour and a half to two hours to get our food. 45 minutes in, one of the waitresses admitted that she forgot to put our order through... why tell us that? She comped our two drinks for the inconvenience. Thanks for the $5 off the bill. Not worth the two hours I will never get back from sitting at your restaurant. I think they were training or trying to train a young girl at the time we were there and yes they were busy so I completely understand how that works .. I hope she catches on because she seemed lost. * Leavenworth Randomness * Leavenworth is such a kitschy town - particularly on the main drag. So wandering off a little bit from the main drag resulted in a meal at Sandy's Waffle & Dinner Haus. Yes, they spell it Haus in keeping with the whole Leavenworth Germanic theme. I ordered the steak sandwich, which came plated with a side salad. I must say this was one of the most random combinations for a salad I've had in a long time. Lettuce, a single cherry tomato, a single slice of a beet, and several Pepperidge Farm goldfish. Upon arriving in Leavenworth for the Memorial Day holiday, we were hungry for breakfast fare. We passed by Sandy's Waffle Haus en route to our hotel, and the restaurant's name screamed out at us: Come in! Come in! Waffles! Mmmm! We also liked how the large paned glass windows faced the street; perfect for people watching on a lovely holiday morning. We walked here from the hotel and the waiting room was packed with people waiting. They told us we'd have a 10-15 minute wait, so we decided to stay. Problem is, there was no place to wait. The waiting room is tiny and it was jam packed. Servers were having a difficult time getting to and from the dining area and kitchen (they need to walk through the rear of this waiting area). My kids and I were constantly told "excuse us" as servers navigated through with plates and cups. It wasn't good. (Had the weather been nicer, we would have waited outside). Anyhow, logistically, this was not a good set-up. One lady had her feet stepped on and another had a purse hit her in the side. We were all trying to jockey for a spot that was unobtrusive and unobstructive, where none existed. We were finally seated, at a nice window seat. The dining room is small and the decor is dated, like a diner, almost. But the large window seats were the best, so we were pleased. We all ordered waffles, and they were all quite good. A lady with a carafe of coffee must have asked me 5 times if I wanted a refill (which I appreciated!). An interesting note: I put some strawberry jam on some toast. The jam was from a small jam container, a brand I'd not heard of (Freezerve? Something like that). This jam was the most otherwordly shade of neon pink that I have EVER seen, and it had little to no taste. So odd, for a restaurant specializing in breakfast fare. But otherwise, our meals were quite good. I was very surprised how pricey this restaurant was. Our bill, for 3, was way higher than I anticipated, and way higher than 3 single-waffle meals should have been. I see some reviewers compared this plave to Denny's and that is apt; the fare was similar, but the price, way costlier. Be advised. read more

We were here at the end of July of 2022 and our breakfast was absolutely wonderful! We were very hesitant when we seen the 2.5 star rating and didn't see any reason HOW it got that low of a review. One of the best breakfasts we've ever had! We had the Eggs Benedict with hash browns and gluten free waffle with German sausage and egg. We do a ton of reviews on our YouTube channel (LivinRVision) as we travel the country full time and we always hate to see a place get rated so incorrectly. It's convenient, but if you'll looking for a Bavarian style breakfast, this is not the place to go. The tables are boxy, making it a real traditional small town American cafe. But the breakfast was pretty good. The staff is amazing. You've got your old lady with the poofy hair and your young guys with the tattoo sleeves all of whom make sure your coffee cup is full and your breakfast arrives in a timely manner.
