For lunch today, I've decided to hit up a beach front restaurant in Surf City (Huntington Beach) called Sandy's Beach Shack. Located in the same building where The Duke's is at, lower level. Today was Wednesday, it was sunny and cool here. I've sat at the patio area for fresh air with nice beach view and food. My first time here, the server highly recommended the tacos which by the way it's known for. For like hunger side, the burgers are highly recommended. I've decided on the Mahi Tacos which I've never actually had before. Presentation of the Mahi Tacos looks stunning with that habanero sauce aside made it even better. Took a bite of that, and it's sooo delicious. I feel it was enough to satisfy my hunger. Before I left, I've made sure to order that big o mud pie. That thing was huge and very delicious. My husband and I just moved to town and decided to bike over to the pier and came across Sandy's. They had a taco Tuesday deal and when I say these are some of the best seafood tacos, I've ever had, I'm not kidding! We had a hard time getting our server's attention--she kept moving around without really checking in on us. For a slower lunch hour, I expected things to be a little more on point. Food-wise, it was a mixed bag. I ordered the fish and chips--the fries were hot, crispy, and exactly what I was craving. It was still open air, so felt like a shaded patio. Mahi tacos, calamari, shrimp skewers, ceviche, and mai tai were ordered. Every entree was fresh, beautiful, and delicious. What a great location, right on the beach. The wait was about 15 minutes, which wasn't bad for a pretty packed place. Dog friendly patio so it was a plus for us. Their Mai tai was really good and a lot of beer choices. We got the fish and chips as well as the calamari strips. The fish was really tasty and fresh, but the matter was mid, no flavor of that part at all. The calamari strips though were delicious. For sure a must. I thought this place would be gimmicky due to its beach-front-location but I was truly impressed with my meal! So dog friendly that they offer a dog menu, which my pup approves of! This is probably as close as you can dine by the ocean, the view is beautiful! Because of the nature of that, parking can be tricky. We ordered the chicken tacos and steak tacos that came with your choice of coleslaw, Caesar salad or house salad. They came with 2 extremely stuffed tacos and a delicious habanero salsa. You will enjoy a view of the waves and pier as you dine, with plenty of umbrellas if you don't want a sunburn. For my gluten-free friends, the options are limited. Our waitress took our order and the food runner brought the dishes out fairly quickly, but that was the last time we saw our waitress. My best friend and her son were trying to kill some time before our flight back home so we decided to hang out on the beach. I'm a sucker for Oceanside views and patio seating. It was such a nice breezy day, about low 70s. Nonetheless, the weather felt amazing. We were greeted by a new server that was in training. Her name is Ashley. Super friendly and knowledgeable. Gave us some recommendations and we went for the tsunami drink. I did it with alcohol and my best friend did it without alcohol. It taste delicious and was fitting for the beautiful day. We shared the tuna poke appetizer as well as the mud pie. We were really there just for the mud pie though. I mean... how could you not? The tuna poke appetizer was very light and filling. The light wonton chips put a twist to it. I didn't expect it to be layered with more wonton chips, but it was still good. The mud pie was superb. Perfect item to share on such a pleasant day. It was the right amount of caramel and chocolate drizzle. It was not super sweet, which I enjoyed. And as a plus, we got the view of the ocean and the light breeze outside.
