We've visited SSI twice and this is one of my favorite cafes on the island. The bagels are delicious-they have both savory and sweet options. Lots of bagels and cream cheeses to choose from. Service is usually fast if you order at the cafe, but I believe they have online ordering too. If you decide to eat at the cafe, there is plenty of seating. Def a 5/5 and I can't wait to return! read more

The food is definitely worth the wait. Super busy place at times but the bagels are unmatched on this Island.

We used to LOVE this place. Every time we would come visit, we would stop by Sandy Bottom and pick up some Lox bagels. We received our orders with basically Untoasted bagels!!! We reached out to the shop and they told us that they always toast very lightly, so we should ask for extra toasted. So the next time we returned we requested - EXTRA toasted bagels. We received untoasted and soft bagels once again. They even at the register, emphasized that we ordered DOUBLE toasted bagels!!! I think this is the last time we will come back to Sandy Bottom bagels which is very sad because we truly do love their toppings on their lox bagels. read more

Food and Service/Staff was great. There was a situation that while were there enjoying the food that the staff started asking each other if they smelled a chemically smell. They walked around the lobby too and several customers said they smelled it as well. One staff member said she thought "it smelled like helium" (helium is odorless). It smelled like gas and one lady said the same thing. One of the staff went outside to investigate further and came back in saying that one of the businesses next door was spraying chemicals. He allegedly told her it would be ok and that it would go away in a few minutes. One customer spoke up and asked her if "the man who said it would be ok and go away in a few minutes was wearing a mask or not?" The staff said that he was and then the customer told her "Then it's not OK." That customer gathered her food, got up and left out of concern, so did the lady who was with her. It has me concerned for everyone who was there, BECAUSE a man spraying chemicals wetting a mask, clearly thought it was necessary to wear one, putting everyone at risk who were there eating and breathing it in. I have been going to this establishment for many years & have never had a negative experience. The place it pretty basic with limited seating but the food is very good. A decent variety of bagels is available & made on sight. I recommend going in early in the day to get your 1st choice of bagel. I normally get a bagel sandwich with either everything, onion or garlic bagel toasted w/ham & fried egg. Service is normally good but can be a bit slow at peak times. Great bagel with fat free cream cheese. This is five stars for the bagel and the girl behind the counter was so nice. They could definitely clean up the tables and floors but I walked in and walked out quickly. I'll define back and possibly get a lunch special or bagels to take home. Overall I'm very please. As a previous restaurant owner and chef that specialized in real authentic New York water bagels I was excited to learn of this place, my excitement ended once I entered, I asked where the bagel oven was or the kettle pot filled with boiling water or that wonderful aroma of fresh dough baking in a true bagel oven. I was told that they hadn't a clue as to what I was talking about, they get the bagels brought in frozen and then reheated to be served. There was my overall disappointment. So I've been strangely obsessed with bagels lately. And honestly there's not too many bagel places in Chattanooga and Dalton that aren't a Panera or Einstein. So while in St. Simons I had to make sure I stopped by Sandy Bottoms a couple of times. While this place has been here for a while, I just recently started going every time we visit the island. Im not sure what took me so long to come around to it because this place is exceptional! I always build my own bagel with bacon, cheese and avocado, but they have almost any toppings and kind of bagels you can think of. I got the egg bagel heated with butter and garden veggie cream cheese. My wife got the Asiago bagel with the same cream cheese. They put a large serving of cream cheese on the bagel. What a great addition to the island. Located near Winn Dixie this place is wonderful. The staff were all smiles even on the morning of Thanksgiving. The music was lovely and not too loud. The selection of flavors of cream cheese will surprise you as will the variety of bagels and breakfast plates. I would love to try their sandwiches next time too. I loved that they had a smaller bagel for those of us who can't eat a huge bagel. The texture, density and flavor of all our bagels was excellent. I really wish I could give this business more stars. I think the bagels are good, it's an adorable and very clean space, and you get your food in a very timely manner. I experienced bad service here however. My spouse and I each ordered a bagel, toasted with cream cheese. My bagel was superb. It was warm, perfectly toasted, the cream cheese held but was slightly melty. We enjoyed it! But his bagel was cold to the touch even before it was unwrapped and except for a couple burned spots where it had contact with the toaster for a second it was cold even after he took a bite. I took a bite to confirm and it was surprisingly not even warmed. Since mine was toasted and warm it seemed off that two bagels ordered the same way came out differently. I immediately took the bagel up and gently asked for it to be toasted. I didn't want my money back or a new order, just please toast the bagel some more. And the person who handled me was nice enough, she seemed a little stunned I asked her to toast my bagel but another employee immediately had a negative reaction to it. I was left standing there with my bagel as they turned their backs on me with no explanation of what would happen next. I left my bagel at the counter and went to sit down. I felt incredibly uncomfortable and unwelcome. My husband and I talked and decided that if nothing happened in the next few minutes we would leave. It's a bagel- whatever. We aren't going to let a dumb bagel hold our day up. We can get a hot meal somewhere else on the island. Soon enough a toasted bagel was brought to us and my spouse heard the negative employee loudly make some snide comments about "that girl" (i.e. me) and our food. Listen, mistakes happen and I don't think it reflects badly on the business that the bagel didn't get toasted or warmed up on the first go. That didn't bother me even a bit. I didn't make any demands. I made a request! And I gave the restaurant an opportunity to make it right so we could enjoy our food. There was really no reason to make me feel unwelcome. And that is what I think reflects poorly here. There seems to be a lack of training in customer service and the employees, or at least one of them, seem to be unware of the optics and how inhospitable the attitude is towards customers. Especially new comers. Maybe that particular bagel isn't supposed to be served hot. I don't know! Talk to me about it. Don't turn your back on me and make a scene about my request in front of other customers. We won't be back. We love bagels but we hate being treated like this. I'm sure lots of people have good experiences here. Maybe it depends on staff. read more
