Sandstone builders were really professional thru the process answering questions and following up.

I will give one extra star because some issues were fixed when we complained about them but overall did not feel like things went smoothly and much of the work/workers were questionable throughout the process. We hired Moty to redo everything from the ground up. New paint, new windows, vinyl plank floors, redid the kitchen and bathroom, asbestos abatement, repipe all plumbing, rewire all electrical, install new AC unit/central heat and air, added a back door and garage door, replaced large garage door, insulated and drywalled the inside of the garage, new recessed lighting throughout, added exterior lights, replaced roofing. We hired sandstone because they were comfortable with us buying and giving us their quotes based on mostly labor. They had a good rating and they were around the middle of the pack price wise so we felt comfortable. However despite it sounding like a lot of work, its a 900 sq ft house. We were initially quoted 2-3 months to finish but this turned into 6 months for a majority to be finished and several months of us living in the unfinished house before the last things needed were finally finished and for the things we found along the way to be corrected. Some things never did quite feel right after being corrected but were "liveable" so we stopped asking. Some nagging issues as we went through the process include, workers drinking on the job (liquor from a flask, which i wouldnt have known if they werent caught on my ring camera), workers pouring their chemicals/paint directly on the brand new lawn (this killed the lawn which then needed to have new sod once again installed and still took months of struggling through the chemicals to be normal again), catching workers watching youtube tutorials on how to do the job they're doing (tiling the bathroom should have been basic work for them), requesting the 70 year old insulation in the attic be removed and replaced only to find they put new insulation ON TOP of the old insulation leaving less room for new insulation and less effectiveness (i refused to pay for this as it was not completed by the agreed terms), brand new kitchen counters were scratched up horribly on both sides of the stove (this mostly buffed out to be less noticeable but shouldnt have happened). The new copper pipes are much smaller width than they should have been, our old water pressure was amazing and now its terrible, additionally it was already said in advance we wanted to install a whole home water filtration system which would have required more water to be coming through the pipes and for a bypass to be installed so that filters could be replaced. Bypass was never installed and now it is a pain to replace filters, i have to turn off the water at the street to do so. The workers for each different project only seemed to know what they were doing occasionally. The eletrical was completely redone with a new panel and wiring. The fuses in the box are divided in such a way that when a different electrician came to hardwire my ring doorbell he had to correct some of their work because many of our outlets werent even connected and a few fuses have a majority of the connections instead of being evenly/logically divided between the full panel. I was asked exactly the make and model of appliances going in the kitchen so that my new fridge would fit into the "custom cabinet" layout that they were making us however despite knowing in advance there was not enough space for the new fridge (now too late to return) so they took the fridge and traded to replace it with one of similar quality that would fit in the space (since the cabinets couldnt be changed). The door opens the wrong way and now I have to squeeze in and out to open the fridge. The list goes on and on over the months but the main ongoing issue now is that the new ac/heating system that was installed. The existing roof is a low angle, so there was supposedly no option that would fit a furnace in the attic so we had to put an all in one unit on the roof. The city requires any unit on the roof to not be visible from the street, so they designed an enclosure. However there have been issues 1. The enclosure is too small/too close to the unit. I tried to get the unit maintenanced and because it is so small nobody can access the inside of the unit. 2. there is a "maintenance door" on the front side of this enclosure but it is too small to actually do ANYTHING, its just there for appearances. 3. they chose to make this with thin bricks to make it look like a chimney, but then it was too heavy and charged 5k to reinforce the walls instead of using lighter materials. 4. Where the enclosure is bolted to the roof the roof was leaking rain water into my attic which required me to repair my ceiling and have it sealed. Lastly, This lead me to finding out they DID get permits but never FINAL INSPECTIONS! This was not done to code and now I have to pay to do it AGAIN. Dont bother calling they're always on another job or out of town. read more

We have used Moty before. It was about 5 years ago for our backyard patio. So it was really a no brainer to use Sandstone Builders again. Moty is so polite, friendly and always available. Our phone calls were always answered. We even encountered a slight plumbing problem (nothing to do with the work being performed) that was fixed quickly and Sandstone didn't miss a beat. They finished the job on time. Moty had actually pointed out the situation to the guys performing the work and told them to be careful in a certain area to prevent a disaster. This review is long overdue! Mike Cohen and the team at Sandstone Builders really helped our home's curb appeal potential become a reality in September of 2019. Our home had 3 or 4 different types of concrete poured over its lifetime (long before we moved in), and Mike helped coordinate the demo and replacement of our entire driveway (taking it from tandem parking to a wide side-by-side layout), wrapping our porch and adding a new step, and adding a seating area and walkway along the side of our property line. They say the early bird gets the worm. Motti was the first person to respond to my yelp inquiry at midnight and he was at my house at 8am the next morning to give me a quote. He had such a positive confident attitude and his price was competitive so we signed the contract that morning and 6 days later my new patio was ready to go. Literally he was done with the job and I was still receiving yelp responses to my initial inquiry. He had a book with many different styles and options. I picked the one I liked and we paid him a deposit. Then my husband started asking questions about the kid friendliness of the option we had chosen. Once he found out we had little kids he made wonderful suggestions on how to make the area more friendly and conducive to their play. The new options made the total price 1,000$ cheaper. He said, "I can do option one but if I was doing this for my own kids I would go for option number two." He could have just not said anything and gotten more money. We are so very pleased and happy with Moty and his team. From start to finish Moty completes the job in a clean professional manner and really takes pride in his work. We needed to remove the bricks and dig a 18 inch deep trench in order to run a power line underground. Moty is very responsive and answered all questions we had (big order small). UPDATE on 2/7/2019: Clearly there was a breakdown in communication when I first contacted them. But Sandstone did everything they could to resolve the matter after they saw my original negative Yelp review. Moty just came out to give me an honest opinion/estimate. His take was that I didn't need to do any work just yet and could easily wait a few years to tackle a major project on the retaining wall. I appreciated the effort to save me money and avoid "work for work's sake." He advised on things to keep an eye on to know when repairs/renovation would be necessary but he felt like I had a good 5-10 years before needing to even consider doing the massive work and maybe even another few years after that. On the aesthetics front, there's a section he quoted on redoing the stucco/painting that seemed perfectly reasonable. While I'm looking at getting other quotes and opinions in the meantime I'm happy to revise my review which had been negative into a recommendation for contacting Sandstone. My advice though is to opt for phones over email as that seems to be the preferred method of contacting them. I will also say I found Moty incredibly honest and open; he did not try and upsell or scare me into doing work and actually actively encouraged me to hold off to save money. That's a rare contractor indeed. I was impressed enough to update this review and I think that speaks volumes about this place as a company. *** ORIGINAL REVIEW *** Perhaps my experience was a rarity, an atypical, "once in a blue moon" series of unfortunate events. But after contacting Sandstone via their website and having someone leave a voicemail later in the day to try and schedule an estimate for repairing my retaining wall, it's been nothing but poor and mis-communications. I phoned back on Saturday at the number they left and was greeted with a "hello--?" as if I had called someone's personal phone and not a business. I asked if I was calling Sandstone and the person confirmed they were with Sandstone and I tried to recap the communication. She stated she couldn't hear me as the phone kept cutting in and out... which fair enough, that can happen... and it's just as likely that one person has a problem on one end while in this case I heard every word she was saying. I told them I'd try again later. Instead I opted to once again use their contact email and summarize the situation, similar to what I have outlined here. I can appreciate not getting back to me on Saturday or Sunday, as I see here on their yelp page they are supposedly closed on weekends. That's something they might have told me in their original voice mail message left on Friday. Here we are on Monday evening, after I've given them over email a suggested time and I've heard nothing, not by phone at the landline and cell phone numbers I included, nor in reply to my emails. Perhaps you will have better luck than I when you try and contact them... or as in my case when you repeatedly try and contact them. read more

When problems arose such as sloppy unsafe work I pointed it out. They became aggressive, hostile and argumentative. He never made the problem right. Sandstone builders was referred to us from a close friend who used them last year. Moty (owner ) came and just answered all our questions, we brained storm together for few hours ( had a pretty big size project -3000 sq.ft pavers , outdoor bbq , new patio , fire pit ,new pool plastering , pool tile and coping..).
