I love coming here for lunch..we sit outside and have a gorgeous view of the ocean..I always feel like I'm on vacation when I'm there .. The service is always very good. Friendly waiters that are prompt when waiting on you and food delivery is quite quick. I ignored all the red flags, because pre-pandemic we had enjoyed many Sunday lunches/brunches here. No problem finding parking. And only saw 2 other tables of diners. Handed the menu. A dinner menu. $38 entrees. I asked if there was a lunch menu and the server said no, but they did have fish and chips or burgers. We both ordered the F&Cs. Purple cabbage slaw was unpleasant, fries good and well seasoned. Fish was greasy and extremely undercooked. Shiny pink cod. Server negotiated a discount of 1/3. One year ago today we had a baby shower here at Seascape resort, it was amazing! They did an absolutely perfect job. So on the anniversary of that perfect baby shower we returned for lunch. The resort is beautiful and has the best view of the Monterey Bay. They seated us right away, and brought water. The service was great, the staff was very pleasant we ordered our lunch, my daughter in law ordered a steak sandwich and another one for her Mom, they looked good and cooked to their specifications. I ordered fish and chips, my fish looked like it was cooked with old oil, it was very dark. And I asked for tartar sauce, they told me because Monday is a slow day they didn't make any? He told me they put malt vinegar and cocktail sauce on my plate but that's not what I wanted. But to my surprise they brought one tablespoon of tartar sauce. Unfortunately. I was disappointed with my recent visit to Sanderlings. We were 8 on the patio with our dogs. Servers were friendly, but very slow in taking our orders It was around noon on a Saturday. There weren't that many customers. I think t h ey are understaffed. It took a long time for our food to come. Those ordered breakfast items had a 10 minute start to the 2 of us that ordered sandwiches with fries. My husband enjoyed his brisket sandwich but my chicken sandwich was missing the gruyere cheese. My fries were so salty that I couldn't eat them. I told my server how disappointed I was with the slow service and my chicken sandwich because of the missing cheese and over salted fries. They didn't charge me, so that was something. It's such a lovely place with a great view . I hope this feedback helps them improve service and quality. read more

I was visiting my friend in Santa Cruz and she took me to brunch at the restaurant at the Seascape Resort located a short drive in the town of Aptos. The place looked Magnificent! The lobby had this huge fireplace, the restaurant had this beautiful fish tank, a welcoming bar, and an awesome outdoor area overlooking on the Bluffs the Pacific Ocean. We were greeted with a friendly staff that went out of their way to bring a heat lamp over to our table to ensure our comfort. The menu had a lot of options scrambles, omelets, pancakes, french toast. I was in the mood for an omelette. After reviewing the menu I could imagine the perfect omelette based on all the available ingredients. So I asked if they could make me a custom omelette with sausage onions, mushrooms and cheese. It was a combination of two of the menu items so I figured it would be easy peasy for the chef to put together. When the waiter brought out our food he told me that there would be a $5 extra charge because they had to make this especially for me. This was wrong on so many levels it completely made my experience go downhill. I should have spoke spoke to the manager which I typically do. That was my mistake. What I want to know is it customary for the chef to make decisions and to increase prices? Should I've been made aware of that cost increase when I ordered? As a foodie, chefs are always complimented by the way a customer wants to combine ingredients to make a dish. And this wasn't out of the normal. It was an omelette. And I would expect even higher customer service from a resort. It was just a complete let down and it ended up being a $20 omelette. Six friends had lunch here on Monday, December 12. Our server Jose was prompt in getting our drink orders and was patient in waiting until we were ready to give our lunch orders. One disappointment was that the menu on the website has not been updated. There no longer is a beet salad on the menu. Also, that day there was a pasta that was not available. Overall, the fish and chips, mushroom ravioli, and my burger were very good. The coffee came hot and was delicious. The staff was patient with our group as we spent at least two hours chatting. We visited Sanderlings after doing much research on nice ocean facing restaurants in the area. I decided on Sanderlings because of the view and was not disappointed at all! This is a beautiful spot located just south of Santa Cruz, CA as part of the Seascape Resort. We had lunch and were seated at a beautiful table on the patio overlooking the water - they had plenty of umbrellas for shade. The spacing for COVID was very good and we were not seated close to anyone. Our waiter was very attentive and friendly and checked on us often during the meal. We started with a bottle of the Albarino ($38) and it was light and very refreshing for a warm day. We ordered: - Salinas valley baby lettuces ($12) - nice portion and dressed just perfectly - Seared Scallops ($21) Amazingly delicious however $21 for two scallops is a bit pricey. - Burger rare and it was rare and perfectly cooked! ($17) came with side salad. (Our waiter tried to talk me out of the burger but for lunch, I did not like anything else on the menu) This was a wonderful relaxing stop while shopping in Capitola. This place is all about the views and beautifully kept grounds. Mother's Day brunch after outing nearby in Moss Beach. Food was ok, but I find these sorts of brunches to be lacking...doesn't seem to matter the restaurant, they just never deliver. I'd rather go back on another day or choose restaurant that is doing normal menu. In the plus column, the servers and staff were very attentive and friendly. When I pulled up confused about where to park, one of the guys in a golf cart said "Follow me!" and led us to the underground parking entrance and gave us a ride back! Also, we did get outdoor seating on the patio with quite a lovely view. It is a beach resort, so might consider a stay here at some point. read more

The food and service was pretty good. However, if you are coming here on a special holiday such as Valentines Day, be prepared to ask for a bar menu or alternative menu. They gave me two menus that ended up being the Valentines meal, without prices, and no matter what you get off of the menu you pay $250 for two, plus tax, about $274. This got us two small starters and a substantial second course, but I would price it around $150 max. For context, my friend also went here on Valentines Day and ordered from the bar menu, and paid $60 total for two meals and two drinks. Do not get ripped off unless you know what you are paying for. Like many others said come here for the view and not the dining experience. What amazed me was the lack of quality in both food and service. We came here as a party of 10. We had made reservations and had confirmed the reservations twice yet when we got here our table was not ready. They only had bar menus on the table and their website did state that they only had bar food available on Sundays and we'll give credit where credit is due they were kind enough to let us order of the regular menu. First, service was extremely slow. We had to flag one of the guys that bring out the food to get our waitress to pay attention to us. I think with the mandatory 20% service charge the add to parties of 10 or more, she didn't care. Second, the quality of the food was below what you would get at much cheaper places. The calamari was disgraceful. It was like we got a basket of fried bread bits. When we brought it to the waitresses attention she said she would check with the kitchen and the answer we got back from the chef was shocking. They said that it was normal. in pictures of other reviews, the calamari looked decent and nothing like what we were served. Shame on you Sanderlings for having such a poor product. You really ought to review the quality of food you are serving. The rest of the food was just ok. We are a local family who bring in our out of town guests to Sanderlings regularly but this experience will certainly make us reevaluate our options. There are far too many nice restaurants with good views to go through such a terrible experience. We were a group of 11 with reservation. we tried many options: clam chowder was very good, mushroom ravioli was not acceptable, fish and chips was the worst: burnt, way too salty. Asked to speak to the manager at the end of the meal but no one came, so here's the review instead. Poor service from the start. Ordered drinks which didn't arrive for a good half hour and was 45 mins or so before any food orders were taken. We have two small children. There were only a handful of other people dining at the time so there was no excuse for the incredibly slow service. They were out of most of the beers listed on their menu in addition to half or more of the entrees. Awful glass of Zin that we sent back, only to wait another 30 mins or so for another glass. Waitress told us that she had no opinions on wine because she doesn't drink. Caesar salad tasted like Ken's shelf stable dressing. When we asked if it was house made we were lied to by our waitress (when we asked another staff member he gave us a knowing look and a laugh when we asked the same question). Our son's kids pasta with butter and cheese HAD NO BUTTER or CHEESE and we had to wait for our waitress to happen to stroll by after 20 or so more mins to get a little bit of cheese for him. How do you mess up kids pasta??!! Our burgers were meh- we asked for medium and they were both very well done, rubbery, patties seemed like Costco ones. Made reservations for Vday weekend through OpenTable. Checkin on time , seated right away. It was windy today, however, all tables were following all CDC guidelines. From checking in to the service and our waiter, Dustin, the host, other staff members all professional, kind, polite very personable. We have been coming for many many years and always enjoy ambiance and great food. Our meals were tasty. The cream brûlée with lavender tastes much like chai. It was smooth and delicious. The bread pudding was okay needed but more cinnamon and whiskey like Woodford Reserve. Give them a try you will not be disappointed. Let me start by saying the view here is STUNNING. Gorgeous garden and a vast ocean view. Eat on the patio if you can. The food was good, not great. Especially for the prices. These things earned them two stars, or they'd have none. I can honestly say that service was like being in the Twilight Zone. The bartender was either stoned as heck or severely mentally challenged. Easily the most bizarre experience I've had in a while & this review will already be long, so I won't detail it, but yeah. This was a special kind of WTF. We didn't even get our drinks after almost 1/2 hr. Outside we were seated and then...nothing. We sat. And sat. And sat. No menus, no set up, no server. Finally someone came to ask if we wanted water. We asked if we could also have our drinks but we're told that was someone else. Again waiting and waiting. Thankfully it was lovely out or we would have just left. Finally we flag someone down who takes our drink order. Again, slow as molasses. And after taking our order we watched this guy stand to the side chatting with another server instead of putting our order in. We finally get our drinks and try to order food but the person who took our drink order isn't the person we order from. That was its own fiasco. Finally, we literally got up and found a server to take our order. This guy was the only competent employee they seemed to have. The food came in reasonable time and was, as I said, ok. Nothing earth shattering. Just basic food like you'd get at any mid-tier hotel. $150 for 4 Bloody Mary's, a burger, a French dip and two tiny ceviches. As we were walking out, there were SIX servers huddled near the bathroom gossiping about the patrons. Like "that lady at table 3...". So nobody is waiting on anyone, just sitting around talking about them. Where is the management??? This place seems to be run by a gaggle of stoned teenagers. If you have food sensitivities, don't eat here! We made a birthday reservation and clearly specified 1.) food sensitivities to gluten and dairy and 2.) "Birthday". Upon making the reservation we were assured that of course we could do this, and there were "definitely plenty of gluten free and dairy free options". When we ordered, the waitress didn't know what GF DF meant. She assertively and somewhat condescendingly assured us that "the fries should be fine, they're just potatoes". After she took our orders, she returned and said "I'm sorry the fries ARE cooked with gluten". I asked if there was a GF substitute for fries, she said no. Next she said "I'm sorry we do have gluten free buns." Etc. The bus boy kept interrupting us and taking our drinks before they were finished. Was the salmon cooked in butter? Who knows.... It was such a beautiful day at Seacape yesterday! Weather was in the high 70° and we had an amazing outdoor lunch at Sanderling's. We ordered the seascape cocktail, shrimp ceviche, clam chowder, seacape burger and the Lavender lemon drop. Everything was delicious, my only complaint is that I wish our food could have been coursed out, we forgot to mention it and everything came out together. But our server was absolutely amazing! This review focused on Thanksgiving experience. We had TG meal here in 2024 and 2022. Positives: 5 star view if you sit outside. The food I had was excellent - great turkey, dressing, pumpkin pie. Things that need to improve: the offerings seemed smaller than 2 years ago. Lots of staff hovering in background talking amongst themselves but not attentive to clearing plates and keeping water full. No decorations for the holiday - the vibe was like being at a corporate meeting lunch. Don't eat indoors - tired old decor. I brought an out of town guest who is a foodie and who writes critiques for certain publications. She is a Pescatarian. I really wanted to enjoy an excellent dining experience with her during her visit. In advance, I showed her online menus from top restaurants in Santa Cruz County. She chose Sanderlings because of their seafood dishes and their extensive wine and cocktail offerings. We arrived early to our reservation and decided to enjoy a drink in the bar. There was only one bartender on duty with his back to patrons, with several people waiting to place orders. After 15 minutes of being ignored, one lady walked out. Finally a manager asked if everything was ok. We told her the situation and she sent a young waitress over to take our orders. We requested 2 margaritas and specified the labels and ingredients which she carefully wrote down; we also asked that if the bartender was unable to make these that we would like chocolate martinis instead. The two "margaritas" we were served were pricey and small. They weren't mixed correctly, tasted unbalanced and awful; also there was no creative flair to them. Based on the type, our glasses should have been rimmed with sugar, but the rims were bare. My margarita was strawberry and I would have thought it might have been garnished with fresh strawberries, but instead a generic lime wedge was shoved hastily onto the rim, the same as was on all other rims we observed. We both immediately returned our full drinks to the bartender who apologized; We were told we didn't need to pay for them. At the restaurant then, we were again disappointed as we were seated at a window table but not one with an ocean view as specified in our reservation. We opened our menus and were again disappointed because the online menus we had based our restaurant decision upon were longer with more seafood and other options than were actually offered in the restaurant menus. We wound up only ordering 3 hors d'oeuvres & 2 cocktails. The cocktails were good but not excellent. The hors d'oeuvres weren't tasty at all. The calamari was cold, not crispy, and was flavorless. There were only two tiny square crab cakes which were dry and over cooked, as well as flavorless. After dinner a young female employee argued with my friend about payment for the two unacceptable bar drinks we were told we didn't need to pay for. My final bill was $125 for essentially 3 mediocre Hors D'oeuvres and 2 acceptable drinks! I'm not at all happy! I'm also extremely embarrassed. Never again. I'm giving one star for the good waiter we had, and one star for the outdoor ambiance. I'm deducting one star for the bad drinks and bar experience, deducting one star for the condensed menu version and mediocre food, and deducting one star for the argumentative employee who insisted on charging for the bad drinks which were returned, and for the overall restaurant/bar pricey-ness vs. average quality. read more
