I did ask for bread later on. The crab had no taste to it, like it was frozen for a long time and all of the flavor evaporated when it was reheated. The rest of the seafood sss good and it was a good one sitting serving, but not as good as other Ciopinno that I have had recently. The hamburgers were part of my room reservation, they seemed ok but I gave them to my daughter and in-laws. Mushroom ravioli was good but it was extra mushrooms in a weird way to me. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful! The food is ok, but the view makes up for it. Their event planning staff leaves a lot to be desired! We originally went to talk to somebody about booking a dinner after our June wedding in the fall, we were told it was too early and they don't book further than 6 months in advance but that somebody would call us back to give us all the details. We never heard back from anybody but waited a couple months until it was closer to their 6 month mark to schedule. We went back the end of December, a little more than 6 months in advance and were told the date is already booked. Pretty frustrated that it was no issue for somebody else to make reservations more than 6 months in advance after we were told we had to wait and never heard back from anybody. This was one of our favorite restaurants and after this we have absolutely no intentions of going back. Feels quite a bit like they heard we were having a smaller group so they waited until a bigger group wanted to book. That's just slimy business and I don't like it! This restaurant either tries so hard to be different on the simple things like a Shirley temple or bread service or they just don't know how to do anything at all. I can't tell which option is worse. The most redeeming thing about this experience was the immense amount of parking. There was a constant smell of campfire, as if I was sitting in front of one, the room was filled with it. The portions were extremely small. "Oysters" means 1 per person. Don't waste your time driving to this restaurant, not even for the view. The best thing there is the clam chowder. We ordered kids meal for our daughter and the menu states all meals come with broccoli. Ours did not. NOT a big deal but total false advertisement lol. The second night my husband did room service. We stayed here at the Seascape Beach Resort for a few days and definitely did not want to miss out on trying the restaurant. It did not disappoint! The calamari had to be the most tender fried calamari I have ever had. We ordered the halibut and the salmon, and both dishes were delicious. My dinner date was not a fan of the fennel frisée that came with the salmon but enjoyed the English pea mint purée. The staff service was great and helpful with getting the umbrella up on the patio for us, and then graciously helping us move indoors because a Yellowjacket kept disturbing us. We were staying at Seascape and decided to try the restaurant at the hotel knowing that it is a "hotel restaurant" with likely sub par food for two reasons. - convenience - views of the ocean One of the reasons turned out to be true. We could be seated outside to get the view because it was raining. They said they could not get the heater in the covered patio area since it would be a fire hazard. Fair but disappointing. I've eaten here on a beautiful morning, outside on the patio overlooking the water. I remember the breakfast being fresh and yummy. So when it came time for Mother's Day, my hubby and I decided to take her here. The weather didn't quite cooperate so we sat inside. Ordered three bowls of clam chowder and a Caesar salad to share, and mil got a hamburger. We also got the fish and chips. The food was not good. Cold clam chowder, lukewarm bread that was hard as a rock, super fishy tasting caesar, and oily fish and chips. So we were staying at Seascapes for a once in a lifetime adventure to celebrate our twins birthday, and looked up the Sanderlings online menu as we have teens and one adult who are neurodiverse and also finicky eaters. The menu prices were reasonable on the higher end and while there were more fancy sounding dishes than our family typically likes, there was at least one thing everyone could / would eat. When we arrived we were handed a menu for room service that did not have much recognizable other than salad and Brussel sprouts, which were not what we had researched, and also not in line at all with tastes for finicky discriminating diners. Of note, a lot of people who are neurodiverse are "picky eaters", and while we don't expect the world to cater to us.... it is disappointing to have done your research ahead of time and think you might be able to have room service or eat onsite a few times for ease free to realize there is absolutely nothing on the menu suited towards picky eaters. We called to see what options were available if we dined on site instead of room service, they said that there wasn't anything not on the room service menu at the restaurant. Seascapes was amazing, and thank goodness for closeby grocery stores, we were able to eat for 3 days what it would have cost our entire family to eat at Sanderlings once. It was disappointing though to think we would be able to treat the boys to a really nice dinner onsite for their birthday to find out the menu completely changed with zero choices on it for picky eaters. Every neurodiverse person is different, and also a lot of neurodiverse people are picky eaters and have anxiety to downright refusing unusual foods, and want some "familiar" foods. Sanderlings we are disappointed that you changed your menu and also didn't change it online first, and that you menu does not at all appear to be friendly to people with food sensitivities and aversions, which is not at all friendly to a lot of the neurodiverse community and population. Yesterday was probably my ninth or 10th time dining at this establishment. The only thing that keeps me coming back is sitting outside and the beautiful view. Yesterday's salad, however, was not good on many levels. I ordered the little gem salad with pork belly and blue cheese. One would think this could be pretty standard. However, the little gem lettuce was not green at all, but fully red in color, which really looked odd and unappealing. There was no contrast in colors along with the red pickled onion, which was tasty, but the whole dish was completely thrown off with gummy pieces of the pork belly and the salad being overdressed. My friend asked the server to ask the chef about the color of the little gem and she came back to report that, yes, this was the color of the lettuce. It was just aesthetically unappealing and disappointing. Someone who works there needs to read this...yuck. I should also mention that when we placed our order, I specifically asked for the regular salad with the pork belly and my friend who is a vegetarian specifically requested that it did not include the meat. However, both of our salads were served vegetarian. This problem was remedied pretty quickly, and my same salad arrived with the pork belly dumped on top. Came on a perfect day to dine outdoors - great views & weather. We started with some appetizers - citrus seafood salad, crab cakes, and ahi tuna poke. The citrus seafood salad had a great mixture of savory seafood, sweet/citrusy fruits, and salad mix - I thought each item complimented each other very well. Great service from some staff. Our server, Ali, took quite a while with our first round of drinks, but another busser, Sam, was very sweet and helped us a LOT throughout the night. We ordered our next two rounds of drinks through him and it came out in minutes! Sam was attentive and constantly checking on us to make sure we were taken care of the entire night, he even called us a cart at the end of our dinner! I researched restaurants on the beach and this one had the best view and a close location to my meetings. You never know, but the pictures were accurate. The place was amazing. It is a little questionable while driving there. There is no view of the ocean. The view is finally revealed as you walk out to the patio to your seat. We had 1pm reservations, but our meeting got cut short. We called and were able to come in at 11:30, no problems. It helped that we went on a Thursday, off season. The restaurant is part of a resort. Parking is in the guest lobby lot. You walk through the lobby to get to the restaurant. Yon then walk through the indoor seating tables and walk to the patio. The staff were really nice as they should be. I highly recommend you don't come here to eat. The food is subpar and expensive. I suggest you go for a drink and maybe dessert. Look at the other food reviews and believe them. I didn't and wished I had. I had the Cioppino, $40, the size is for 1 person. Most restaurants make them larger and enough for 2. That wasn't the issue. The star of the dish is the crab. It sticks up from every dish and waves. This one was over cooked. The shell was so soft, that I was able to open it with my fingers. The shell also felt hollow. If you dug in with your fingernail you could find the soft meat. I give the crab a zero. The dish included garlic/cheese bread. It was the shape of a biscotti. It was not crispy or soft. It was hard, so bad that I didn't eat it. I even tried to fix it by dipping it in the sauce, but that was a fail. The sauce was tasty, The shrimp were smaller then I've ever seen in Cioppino. They were small, not as small as salad shrimp. But small. Usually they have part of the shell on it and you pick it up with the shell and pull it out or just pull it out first. I was extremely disappointed. Bad shrimp and bad Crab. Those are the two main items I look forward too. The other dish we ordered was the Salmon, maybe as a fluke it was really good. Not too fishy tasting. The roasted veggies were plentiful. I am hesitant to recommend this dish, as this may have been a fluke. For the time being it was good. I recommend this place for the perfect view of the ocean. There is a path down the way to the beach. It's an easy walk downhill. Some were carrying chairs and coolers. On this October Thursday the beach was pretty sparse. I am glad I went and took in the view. The patio is dog friendly and they have water dishes out. I recommend you go on a pleasant day and sit outside. Woo hoo! Since it was the last day of school, we wanted to go to the beach! But it was almost time for dinner. Luckily, I found Sanderlings at Seascape Resort on Yelp and I ordered online when we were on the freeway. When we got there my order was ready to go! The bartender offered their outdoor dining, but instead, we went down to the private beach. We ate our meal, played, and watched the sunset. I started with the Seascape Signature Clam Chowder. It was not as screaming hot as I'd like, but it was creamy and flavorful with a lot of chunks of veggies, clams, and meat (pork?). Everyone else didn't like it, though. Maybe because they had their Fish & Chips first, and it was cold by the time they tried it. But it was also mentioned that there wasn't much clams or veggies. Huh. Maybe I ate it a lot of it before I passed it on to share. Oops. Everyone was a fan of the Fish & Chips. The adults shared one order and the kids shared the other. The Monterey Bay Rock Cod was perfectly cooked - the batter was crispy, the fish was fresh, and the fried potatoes aka fries were fun to munch on. It was a little pricey for $21, but it was expected in this fancy restaurant. Their cheapest burger, after all, is $17. I was glad to see my daughter, the picky eater, enjoy the cod. So, it was worth it! We were also fans of the Chocolate Mousse. It was wonderfully rich and satisfying with dark chocolate. The ganache gave it an irresistible flavor. It was even better with whipped cream on top! All of us competed to get more than a piece of the small serving. I'm glad I found Sanderlings at Seascape Beach Resort! Because of COVID19, it was mostly quiet, and not annoyingly crowded. I wonder how it is usually without the pandemic? It was all thrown on the plate and did not look good. As for our mushroom ravioli, I hated the sauce. I've never experienced this bad of food before. Come here for the view, not for the dining experience. My daughter and I ordered ceviche and calamari to start. The calamari was greasy, thin - the kind you'd find in a cheaper restaurant... except that this isn't that. For the price, it's pretty bad. The ceviche was awful - imitation crab and bay shrimp mixed with jalapeños. No flavor other than spicy. Frankly, I think it's a bit embarrassing for a restaurant of this price point that also claims that it's a seafood restaurant to serve this dish. We ended up returning it (thanks to our waiter for taking off the charge). Not on service - they were not busy, but it took us a long time to ask the waiter to take away the dish and let us order something else. These were appetizers. A variety of issues with the food and the service. Primarily, they forgot to put in my son's order of chicken strips. He didn't get his dinner until after the rest of us finished eating, then they tried to charge us for two orders. The salmon was inedible. It was cooked unevenly and it did not taste right. My husband's halibut was covered in a disgusting cream sauce that made one question what it was he was actually eating. I ordered the "special," which was supposed to be a warm quinoa meal. What I ended up getting was a lot of lettuce with a few grains of quinoa. It was terrible. The ambience is also odd. It's like Embassy Suites meets Mariott conference room. On a Labor Day weekend we were not surprised the atmosphere on the patio was festive with small children in party clothes strewn about the area and adjacent pristine lawns and families gathered in Adarondack chairs to view the sunset over the beach. Our servers were attentive, friendly and fast - great experience. We ordered the calamari and found it lightly breaded and more tender than we'd had elsewhere. The location of the restaurant is inside the Seascape Beach Resort and the views are beautiful, from the inside dining to the patio dining. My server José was extremely friendly and all the others who helped him in his place. However, the table next to me had ordered a bottle of wine and the server Alexis was very rude and short. She needs to be retrained on knowledge of wine and not speaking to customers as if she is a know it all. Alexis had told the older couple that they do not serve the bottle of wine by opening it, having them taste it, and wait to pour them both their first glass because "We don't waste the wine." As if the customer who ordered the wine does not like the wine after tasting it and return it. Never in my life have I ever heard such justification from a server. That was completely unprofessional and made her look prideful and arrogant. Every place you order a bottle of wine that has always been the routine and if this beautiful restaurant no longer does that process, shame on you, but I seriously find that hard to believe. Nonetheless, my food was delicious! I had the impossible burger and added sautéed onions with no salt on my french fries. My hot tea was the perfect touch on my pallet. Sanderlings was a favorite spot for me & my family my entire childhood, and I was so excited to bring my fiancé for our anniversary to share this special space with her. Unfortunately, our experience was AWFUL two days in a row. First, we specifically booked a table outside and when we arrived we were told they didn't have any available, despite the host acknowledging that our reservation had been for the patio. We were polite because we figured someone just made a mistake and weren't going to fuss. We sat at our table and waited a full 20 minutes (not exaggerating, we checked our watches) before a water even came to our table. Ordered our drinks, and waited. Once we had been sitting at our table for 45 minutes without even getting our drinks, we decided to walk out. We told the host about it, and then told the front desk of the resort. We were told we'd be contacted and never were. The next morning was mother's day and we had reserved brunch reservations with my mom since Sanderlings used to be one of her favorites. As we were telling the front desk about our dinner experience, we noticed a small flyer stating that mother's day brunch was a minimum of $85 and a totally different menu, which was not clear in the reservation at all. So we cancelled that reservation as well. Moral of the story, Sanderlings has clearly gone down hill. Bring back the kids meals in sand buckets, train your host to honor reservations, and if you're in town visiting - skip Sanderlings and go to Bittersweet Bistro instead (8 min away). read more

We stayed at the Seascape resort and dined at Sanderlings twice - once for breakfast and once for dinner. Both times the meals were great and the service was excellent. Sunday brunch has a lot of menu options that include both breakfast and lunch. I had the classic eggs Benedict and my husband had the chicken and waffles. My eggs were poached perfectly and he loved that his chicken was strips. For dinner, we shared the fried Brussels sprouts (so good) and I had the steak bavette and he had the mushroom pasta. My steak was so tender and cooked just as I ordered it, and my husband's pasta was really delicious. I had a dirty martini which wasn't very good, but no big deal. My family and I have been coming to Sanderlings for years. It's has been a neighborhood favorite and is the only restaurant at the world renowned Seascape Resort. I'm thoroughly disappointed and downright disgusted with the quality of food and poor service that I experienced during my first time dining here since covid restrictions lifted.
