Gorgeous location for breakfast/brunch. I ordered the chilaquiles, which was delicious. My only gripe was that I thought this place was understaffed. Our server was very nice... but he disappeared for long periods of time. I noticed as I was leaving that some of the servers hung out at the bar as they waited for drinks to be made. I think they need to keep circulating around to their customers instead of just hanging by the bar... better use of time. I'll totally come back for the food/ocean views. read more

The actual food was very delicious. I had an ham and egg omelet and others in our party had the breakfast skillet. Bloody Mary here is awesome as well. We came on a Sunday morning around 11:30 for brunch. We had called ahead of time and were seated immediately. That being said the seating in the restaurant is EXTREMELY close together. We were a party of 6 adults 3 children. We were seated so close to another couple that I couldn't even squeeze between the 2 tables. If it is a nice day I imagine its better to sit outside. I would definitely go again just probably sit outside to be able to have some space. read more

Beautiful setting with treble food. We ordered chicken sandwich and a hamburger. The chicken was dry and tough and the medium hamburger was dry. Obviously it was previously cooked and reheated. Took wifey out for dinner to Sanderlings on a Saturday night to celebrate our anniversary. Sanderlings participates in the Passport Corporate program (https://passportlifestyle.com/) so we would get 2-for-1 entrees. (FYI, I have seen reviews recently complaining about construction... we saw none of it, so it appears their construction is over) We asked to be seated outside so as to get the best view of the sunset. They had heatlamps which took the chill out of the ocean air. The sunset was spectacular! My wife wanted to order a specialty cocktail but they didn't bring the special cocktail menu so someone had to go get one. She ordered something with pomegranate but it was bitter so she sent it back. We then waited about 10-15 minutes for anyone to return, which made us nervous that our meal would take 2-3 hours. Finally she returned and took our dinner order. We both had the filet mignon + 1/2 lobster, which was accompanied by fresh vegetables and a bacon-potato croquet. Everything except the steak was terrific. Lobster was sweet and tender, well seasoned. I would have liked some drawn butter, but it was good enough by itself that I didn't bother to ask for some. Bacon-potato croquet was crispy on outside and tender inside, very good substitute for a baked potato. Steamed vegetables were tender but not mushy, also very good. However, both of our steaks were overcooked. We considered sending the steak back, but it was adequate enough that we didn't bother. The steak was also bland. I had to add copious amounts of salt to make it taste halfway-decent. The cut of meat was good though; tender and virtually no gristle. And a nice touch at the end... they gave us a complimentary dessert for our anniversary! The creme brulee was outstanding, probably the best tasting creme brulee I've ever tasted. The service was too slow, however everyone who served us (waiter, hostess, busboy, etc) was very nice and gracious. They never brought us bread, although I saw other tables with nice-looking bread baskets. That's something we shouldn't have to ask for. If you don't bring bread automatically, at least ask the patrons if they want it. Overall we had a good experience at Sanderlings. If we're near Aptos again we might go back, but only if they continue the Passport program (hard to pass up free filet+lobster!) ;-) read more

Yikes! Breakfast at Sanderlings. Ordered a cappuccino, it arrived room temperature and weak. Huevos Rancheros was soupy and eggs undercooked. Service was almost non existent. When we asked for regular coffee in exchange for bad cappuccino it never came. Not worth the price, not going back. View is great. read more

Great food, but not amazing service. We were one of the first to show up for dinner hours and we decided to sit outside because they have the outdoor heaters. We sat down and the waitress took at least 15 min to greet us and ask for our drinks. Then took at least 20 min to bring our wine to us and as she was taking our order, it was getting chilly outside so we asked for a heater and a gentleman said that they were all being used and he would bring the next one to us. So we waited and saw many heaters that were out of use being taken to guest that had just gotten there. We didn't get one till the last 30 min of our dinner and we were there for a good 3 hours. Each of the three times I ate dinner here, the food was exceptional. The waiters were friendly and knowledgable, and the coastful view is unforgettable. For any meat-lovers out there, I would recommend the prime rib. It did not disappoint. From the three dinners I've had here, I'd say you definitely get what you pay for. I usually don't leave bad reviews, well because I really haven't had a bad experience. Today I just left Sanderlings from an early dinner and I have to say it was the worst experience ever. We waited at a table for 20 minutes for them to clean the table and then once they did we waited another 25 minutes for them to even ask us if we wanted anything to drink. They kept walking by and telling us they would be with us but didn't even bring us menus. For the amount of money we spent to stay at this resort, please get the restaurant together or at least try and have decent service. read more

I have been to Sanderlings a number of times because I live close to the resort. Although the food and drinks are normally tasty, the service is usually slow. One waiter, Brendan, was particularly snotty. First, he corrected my friends pronunciation of wine in a condescending manner. Then, he said he'd come back with clean plates for the appetizers and never returned. Once we received the main meal, he never checked back. Of course, my friend wanted some lemon for her bland fish and he didn't show until it was cold. The manager was even helping him with another table and ignored us when we indicated we needed assistance. The view is great and is one of the reasons we go to the restaurant. The only place we ever receive proper service is in the bar. So, from now on, if I ever go back, we will just order food in the bar. I will take all of our visiting family and friends to a different restaurant. It has always embarrassed me to take anyone there despite the view. Hopefully management reads yelp reviews and improves the attitude of the wait staff! read more

Usually go off site to eat when at Seascape, but decided to try their restaurant, knowing that it would be way overpriced. Didn't bother looking at dinner menu because of outrageous prices, so we stuck to the "all day" selections. Made the mistake of listening to the waitress and getting ribs instead of burger. Calamari appetizer was excellent, them came, according to waitress, "nine hour, fall off the bone, smoked ribs". Four ribs smothered in sauce arrived. Should have sent it back right then for false advertising. Waitress probably doesn't know the difference between smoked and baked! These were fall off the bone alright, because they were cooked in an oven. No smoke character at all, and lots of fat and grease are a pretty obvious sign. Cole slaw and fries were good and the rest of the family's meals were average, but I can't rate higher due to my experience! STAY AWAY from BBQ ribs at a non-BBQ joint is the lesson to be learned...regardless of what the waitress tells you, if you don't see a smoker-just say no! read more

Came here for Saturday lunch. It was a lovely sunny spring day and the view did not disappoint. However, most everything else was sorely lacking. Service was very, very slow- it took over half an hour before any food was brought to the table. I saw the waiter running occasionally, but I could never figure out why. Two out of the four dishes we ordered were bad- the open-faced meat loaf sandwich on mashed potatoes and bread, and the veggie pasta, which was swimming in oil. The mole tacos from the Restless Palate menu were bland and the only sauce did not resemble any kind of mole. The chicken club sandwich was the only dish described as "good." When the waiter asked how everything was, the consensus was "pretty bad" and his response was, "I can see you enjoyed it." Hmmmm- won't be going back any time soon. read more

I would rate the food, but we were completely ignored. We sat for 15 min without any acknowledgment. The waitress took the order for the table next to us with not a word or look from her. the kid serving the water refilled glasses all around us and on the patio, but no water for us.... my fiancé and I gave it 5 more minutes then left . Incredible location, beautiful patio, dog friendly, okay food. We've enjoyed drinks, snacks and brunch on the patio several times. It's a great way to start (or end) a day at the beach. The bar menu is straightforward and has the staples (sliders, flatbread, fries, etc.) Service is super slow, but you don't come here to eat and run. One of my favorite things to order is a crisp sauv blanc with the vegetarian flatbread (topped with mozzarella, tomatoes, spinach, and seasonal vegetables). The brunch menu is different and has a huge selection. I was torn between the California omelet and the pizza, but in the end, went with the omelet. Big mistake. My plate arrived scalding hot, and the omelet was oozing oil. The potatoes were swimming in some sort of orange liquid. We called the waiter over, and they were apologetic. When my replacement meal arrived, I could see the oil seeping from the potatoes. I quickly transferred them to another plate and sopped it up with a napkin. The omelet would have been delicious had the veggies inside been cooked. Inside the omelet was partially melted grated cheese, and chopped, cold, raw, spinach (not listed in the menu), olives, tomatoes, and artichoke hearts. Conclusion: You can't beat the location. Less than a two minute walk from the beach. Parking is easy most days. The patio space is lovely and one of my favorite places to spend a summer afternoon. We recently went to Sanderlings for dinner on a rainy night. The view is absolutely SPECTACULAR!! I cannot wait to go back when the weather is nice and we can sit outside. What an incredible place to have a couple of cocktails! Our food was fantastic! We had a party of five. One person ordered the filet mignon, one the burger, one the sea bass, one the salmon and I ordered the cioppino. Everyone loved, loved, loved their food and we traded bites around the table. My cioppino was outstanding! Filled with crab, mussels, clams, shrimp and fish in a beautiful broth over pearl couscous. It was the small portion and it was still HUGE- packed with seafood! So delicious. The main courses were all very good, but the sides were equally as good and very inventive! The vegetables, the au gratin potatoes, fried polenta cake, and sauces were so nicely done and good - not afterthoughts, but complementing the main course. We enjoyed nice cocktails and they offer a great selection of wines. The service was good. Our server wasn't Mr. Personality and, at times, seemed a bit frustrated or short with us, but he was fine. Just thinking back to my dinner at Sanderlings makes me hungry! The first night we stayed at the hotel I attended a conference with catered dinner. My boyfriend and I both ordered the filet with Blau cheese crust. To our delight our steaks were cooked perfectly (even though we were with a party of 49,) and great. What was even more amazing was the scalloped/au gratin potatoes! We liked our dinner so much we actually ordered the same dish from room service the next night! We've lived in Rio Del Mar for 47 years, long before the Seascape Resort / Sanderlings was built here. Over the years the food quality has declined, as has the service. Waitress Taylor F. is oblivious to her "clients," and we practically have to flag her down to get her attention. It seems to us that the only reason Taylor has a job here, is she shows up for work. Had brunch here on Mother's Day! Slightly pricey, but worth it! We were lucky to have a window seat with a view of the ocean! ( You can request a seat with a view at the time you make your reservations, if you're not into taking chances). I've had several brunches here and they are always good. I especially like that they offer a little bit of something for everyone. At this brunch, they offered lox, teriyaki salmon, baked salmon,crab, prime rib, egg benedict, bacon, latkes, waffles, to name a few thins. They also had a children's section and yummy desserts and petite fours. Bring your walking shoes to take a stroll down to the beach! A camera is a must! Parking is difficult here, if you have someone in your party that can't walk long distance, drop them off at the lobby or valet park. read more

The food was decent, especially considering the price, but we did not try the regular menu items, so I can't comment about that. Since it was a nice day, we really enjoyed the view and sunshine. Although our server was knowledgeable and polite, service was really slow. It seemed like there was a serious shortage of wait staff, resulting in long waits for beverages and food. Sanderling's has some of the best ocean views of the Santa Cruz County area. The food is outstanding the service is impeccable, but you have to try the spring rolls. Tthe spring rolls are absolutely amazing better than most Vietnamese restaurants I've been to in the entire Bay Area. We've come back a number of times since our terrible experience last year and the food and service have been consistently excellent. I'm so glad that things have improved and our local spot can now be our favorite local spot again. We went for lunch on a Sunday and ordered from the special restless palate menu. Everything was amazing. The wedding soup was thick and rich and could have been a meal in itself. The scallops were cooked perfectly and the entire presentation was beautiful. But what put this experience completely over-the-top was the Restless burger. It was like a burger and carnitas and every other magical topping you could possibly imagine all on a giant burger. My mom and I split it and it was absolutely unreal! Chef Mario absolutely outdid himself with this menu. Our server, JulieAnn, was perfect and attentive, and Sally, the manager, stopped by our table to make sure our meal was going well. And the view, of course, is absolutely unbelievable!
