RUDE EMPLOYEES, RUDE MANAGEMENT, AND TERRIBLE FOOD! If I could give this place ZERO stars, I absolutely would! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE unless you enjoy paying $54 for the same mediocre food you could get for FREE at a hotel breakfast! We are on a FAMILY VACATION and stopped here expecting a decent meal. Instead, we were met with some of the rudest employees and management I have ever encountered. Let me explain. Our party consisted of 4 adults, 3 children between the ages of 3 and 6, and our 1-year-old twins. We needed 7 chairs and 2 high chairs. After ordering our food through the cafeteria line, we headed to the indoor seating area, which was completely EMPTY. An employee had two separate tables with the high chairs placed at the end. I politely asked if we could push the tables together so our entire family could sit together, especially since our twins share food. Her response? They weren't allowed to move the tables because of management. EXCUSE ME?! The entire seating area was empty! I explained that it would have been nice to know that BEFORE we ordered our food. We are on a family vacation, and the last thing we expected was to be treated like an inconvenience for simply wanting our family to sit together. She then proceeded to push the tables together while making a scene, saying she would just "take the heat from management." She also told us that if we wanted to sit together, we should have gone to Sisters Restaurant around the corner because they accommodate larger parties. Are you SERIOUS?! So we're being told to take our business somewhere else because we have children and want to sit together? Absolutely ridiculous! After finally getting the tables together, we began trying to get everyone settled. Keep in mind, we had THREE young children and ONE-YEAR-OLD TWINS to get situated. The employee then had the audacity to tell us our food was going to be cold because we were taking too long to sit down before storming off. WHAT KIND OF CUSTOMER SERVICE IS THAT?! A few minutes later, two other employees came back, looked at our tables, and literally HUFFED because they had been pushed together. At this point, I had ENOUGH. I went to ask for someone in charge because the disrespect and unnecessary attitude from the employees were completely unacceptable. And management was somehow EVEN WORSE! As I tried to explain what had happened, the response I received was, "Well, your tables are together, so what's your deal?" MY DEAL?! Your employees have been rude, made snarky comments, told us we should have eaten somewhere else, and made us feel completely unwelcome when we were simply trying to enjoy a meal with our family! When I explained that the employees were continuing to make rude comments and complain about the tables, the manager literally YELLED OUT, "STAY AWAY FROM THAT TABLE!" Not once did anyone apologize. Not once did anyone attempt to make the situation right. Just pure attitude, disrespect, and absolutely ZERO customer service. And let's talk about the FOOD, because after all of that, you would at least hope the food was worth the $54 we spent. IT WAS DISGUSTING! This place claims to serve homemade food, but the eggs tasted like fake, powdered eggs, and the biscuits tasted like frozen biscuits straight out of a package. Honestly, I've had better breakfasts at a FREE hotel continental breakfast! We paid $54 for a meal that was nowhere near worth the money, dealt with employees who acted like we were a burden for simply being there, and received absolutely no apology from management. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE! If you enjoy being treated like an inconvenience, being talked down to by employees, getting yelled at by management, and paying restaurant prices for frozen, low-quality food, then by all means, give this place a try. Otherwise, SAVE YOUR MONEY AND TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE! Family vacations are meant to be enjoyed, and no family should have to deal with this kind of unnecessary disrespect just to eat a meal together. A delightful spot for breakfast! I stopped in based on the Yelp reviews I read and was not disappointed. As soon as I walked in I was greeted and asked if I had been there before, since it was my first visit it was explained that everything is basically cafeteria style unless you want to order some fried eggs. There were some specials and I went with the bacon, Brussels sprout and cheddar cheese omelet ....added some hash browns and fresh fruit. Delish! I have been wanting to try Sand Dollar for a while, but just kept passing it by. This past Sunday morning we were in PSJ and decided to to drop into Sand Dollar. I kid you not, it was hands down the best breakfast I've had in the area. First off when we walked in we were greeted by at least 3 or 4 staff working; they were so polite and showed us the foods they had available that morning with explanations of what the items were. It was great getting a visual. My daughter had the homemade monkey bread and fruit; which I also enjoyed from her plate. It was very fresh and delicious. I had an egg casserole that was super delicious with a side of the best hashbrown casserole I've ever had. I thought they were going to have to wheel me out I ate so much. I highly recommend doing breakfast at the Sand Dollar if you are in Port St Joe. read more

Great service! The waitresses were friendly and helpful describing the dishes available. It's a cafeteria style service, with plates that include entrees of the day, 2 sides, bread and a drink at great prices. You can also choose just an entree without sides as well. Our group had shrimp and grits, blackened mahi, the beef meatloaf and cube steak. The cabbage and beans were cooked perfectly, and the Mexican cornbread, very tasty. There is also a breakfast served in a similar style. Portions were generous and drinks were refillable. We haven't seen quality food at these prices in Port St. Joe! read more

Driving along Monument Avenue on the way to St. George Island, we found the Sand Dollar Cafe. The front has a cozy look that drew us inside. Upon entering, we were greeted with friendly and helpful service. The gal at the door explained how things worked -- all home-cooked and ready to go. The Sunday special was Crab Cakes with Remoulade -- there was also a vegetarian option as well a meaty one. We both said, sign me up for the Crab Cakes special! We got to choose two sides from a good variety. Went with the mashed potatoes and garlic Brussels Spouts. In addition to the two sides, the meal comes with a drink too. Once the friendly owner/manager/not sure which or either dished us up, we also purchased a brownie for dessert. The dining area has pictures of the family (and perhaps friends) as well as celebrity shots (you're represented Lucille Ball!). Again, the staff checked in on us a few times. We were delighted to have found this place and while I straddle that line between wanting to keep things Hidden Gems vs letting others know about these unique places, I've erred on the side of the former. There was only ONE place I had to go while we were in PSJ, and it was here. I have heard amazing things about the food, so our first day down here before we went to get groceries, we came here first! As soon as I saw Shrimp and Grits on the menu, it was over. I got that, along with the cream corn and green beans. My fiancée got the smothered chicken, the Mac and cheese, and the green beans. Outstanding. The shrimp to grit ratio was perfect and the cream corn rivaled my grandmother's, and I always say hers is the best. The green beans had a kick to them, and I was in love. This is a very cute local joint right on the main highway into town! Stopped here before work and breakfast is a al crate style! I tried the biscuit gravy (both types where delicious), a Denver egg back, and sausage patty. Left with a full, satisfied belly for about 10 dollars! In town for the 2019 Forgotten Coast Sea Turtle Festival and decided to eat downtown. Most of the restaurants are not open on Sundays so Sand Dollar was packed. The line to be served moved relatively slowly and the menu is Southern Comfort Food. There were adequate choices and no table service is available. They DO come around and refill drinks and ask if anything is needed. After choosing your protein and 2 sides you make a drink selection and pay. There is a table where iced teas, lemonade and other drinks are free to refill. They do carry bottled drinks as well. The food and service was good overall, nothing to write home about. The Fish House restaurant and adjacent marina waterfront was destroyed by hurricane Michael, both of which were in our original lunch plans :-) The locals say most of the debris was only recently removed. So come pay a visit to the Forgotten Coast where your dollars spent locally really help. read more
