Great service here!! After receiving lackluster service at another establishment, we stopped at the Parlor Bar and were very happy to be received with a great attitude and service!! We only ordered drinks but were thrilled with the welcome we received!!

Had a chance to enjoy breakfast at the Franklin Cafe. It's a quaint restaurant inside the historic Gibson Inn. Atmosphere is wonderful. If weather is nice and seating available, I encourage you to dine outdoors. Weekdays, spring, fall always less busy than summer. Wonderful menu with very nice staff. Can't wait to return for lunch and dinner. We enjoyed create your own 3 Egg Omelets, Chicken & Waffle, Gravy Biscuits, the Franklin Lox and Bagel.

Southern oysters

From the outside this place looks like something dropped right out of New Orleans. The inside has TONS of character. The billiards room is worth a game and a cocktail! There is a mounted alligator that is more than worth the price of admission The food is awesome. Everything we had was good! The southern oysters, with sausage and an aioli were awesome. The waitress said they were spicy and as a guy who doesn't like spice, I can tell you it wasn't spicy. My wife had the fish tacos and I had the shrimp and grits. The shrimp and grits were made with gouda and they were amazing! (Nap inducing, yes. But 100% worth it.) Fish tacos were a great lunch. Light, delicious, and easy to eat. Highly recommend this spot. Even had an afternoon drink, you know just to check out the bar. Tried the mudslide, very well done.

Dozen raw oysters- delicious!

I really wanted to love this place. It's in a great location, super cute vibes, great menu offerings, but the service and the food were underwhelming at best. A group of 3 friends and myself went for dinner on a Saturday night. The hostess was very nice, and we were promptly seated in a mostly empty restaurant, but the first table they sat us at had a massive air vent below the table that seemed perfectly capable of causing instant frostbite if you sat down, so we asked to sit at a different table. Unfortunately, this meant we were sitting right beside the loud, slamming door to the patio which was repeatedly shoved, kicked, and battered open throughout the meal. We ordered the Louisiana creole shrimp and a dozen raw oysters for our appetizers. Oysters were super fresh and great, as were the creole shrimp. My friend ordered tea with lemons for her drink, and didn't get her lemons. Waiters and waitresses were moving quickly around the restaurant, acting flustered although the restaurant wasn't crowded (there were 5 servers for maybe 6 tables with people). We were told about the seasonal vegetable (carrots) and the catch of the day (salmon). We ordered a ribeye (carrots and Gouda grits), 2 filets (asparagus and garlic mashed potatoes) and the Apalachicola Bay pasta. After we ordered, my friend who didn't get her lemons realized she still hadn't received her lemons. We also realized that although our waitress was nearby, she wasn't looking toward us AT ALL. We overheard her tell another table about the special of the day, which was a wahoo fish that we unfortunately were never told about, but oh well. It took another 10 minutes to flag down our waitress, rather dramatically, and then she never brought us the lemons. Our entrees were actually quite good. My pasta was awesome- well seasoned, warm, flavorful. The filets, ribeye, and asparagus were also great. However, the carrots and Gouda grits were noticeably cold, and there was no detectable garlic in the mashed potatoes, which had an interestingly sweet taste. We attempted (and failed) to flag down our waitress, then when that didn't work, flagged down the hostess and told her about the grits. She said another table had noted the same thing, and that she would bring us new grits when they came out. She came back after about 5 minutes with a new hot bowl, which were great. We had to practically throw ourselves at our waitress to give her our credit card to run it, as she still wouldn't come check on our table after we finished up. We left full, but wishing we had had a better experience. I would try it again, but hope their service and food temps would be much better.

Breakfast platter and Egg Benedict.

The food was great the eggs were well done. The egg Benedict was cooked just right. The butter for the biscuits was soft. The water was also filtered.

Awful food. Untrained and dumb servers. Deceptive pricing when coupled with hotel stay.

Waited to get seated and unfortunately the hostess was very slow. Patrons did not look pleased, so we left. Very disappointed.

Strap yourselves in, this is gonna be a long one…read more I was hoping to have a couple end of year reviews that were outstanding, so here goes. We had been camping at Torreya State Park but unfortunately, my ankle wasn't living up to expectations. Rather than put ourselves in a precarious situation, my wife got us reservations in Apalachicola and we drove down. We almost went to a little more upscale place, but as soon as I saw Hole in the Wall seafood, I changed my mind. Yes, it's a hole in the wall, but the best kind. Inviting, homie, Kitchie, and down to earth. The decor consists of hats donated by patrons. There are several wooden tables, including some large ones and a good sized bar. We opted for the bar. Cliff, the owner, is a former molecular biology professor and a fellow Hoosier. We noticed the oysters being shucked and they looked fresh and massive. We started off with a dozen raw oysters, a pound of their Cajun peel and eat boiled shrimp, and two grouper and oyster combo baskets with fries and hush puppies. Everything was outstanding. We ended up getting another dozen oysters. They were plump, sweet, and undeniably fresh. The peel and eat shrimp were amazing. They weren't just the typical throw some old bay on and dump a ton of butter in variety. The flavor was unique and rich. I joked with Cliff that I thought about drinking the juice and he said he had people order bread just to sop it up with. The fried grouper and oysters were outstanding. Big, flaky chunks of grouper, perfectly breaded and fried. The breading was just right. Light and crisp. Not heavy or greasy and the least. Ryan, the young man shucking the oysters, is obviously an expert, and each oyster was perfectly shucked. The beer selection is small, but excellent. I recommend the Oyster City Hooter Brown Ale and the Estrella Jalisco if you're in the mood for something a bit lighter. I can't say enough good things about this place. We'll be back... tomorrow.

We waited around 20 minutes for a table, grabbed two beers from the bar, and sat outside while we waited. Once seated, we were "greeted" by our server, and that interaction set the tone for the rest of the evening. She was rude, short, and overall unpleasant. She never checked in after any course, seemed uninterested in our experience, and at times even slammed food onto the table. Every interaction felt rushed, and as soon as she came by, she was quick to disappear. It felt like she had no concern for our satisfaction throughout the meal. We had planned on staying for dessert and another round of drinks, but honestly felt uncomfortable doing so. When we asked for a box, she already had the check in hand. While I understand wanting to be efficient and prepared, given her attitude throughout the night it came across more like she was trying to rush us out than provide good service. The food truly was excellent, which makes the experience even more disappointing. Unfortunately, we did not get her name, but she was blonde and wearing a pink shirt. I get being busy but this was simply not the case.

Very casual comfort, exactly what I'd expect from a restaurant with a Bayou namesake…read more The place has an unusual menu limited only to daily specials for lunch, so I initially got the impression that I was at some prison-like boarding school. But once I took my first bite, I was pretty satisfied. I had the country-fried steak, along with mash & gravy, and rice & gravy. It was good, and for under $20, I really can't complain. The place is huge, very spacious with both indoor and water-side outdoor seating.... something I'm not used to seeing in Los Angeles. It almost felt like a studio set at Universal. Definitely a lot of Bayou character! Service staff was young and friendly, without any of the pretentious I'm used to in La. The folks are real, and I appreciate that. Because of the limited menu, I'd advise you call ahead and make sure it's something you like, cuz if it's not, you're SOL. I like it. I'll definitely be back.
