My father hired Raphael last year to landscape my garden and we were so impressed with his work that when it started getting overgrown with weeds this year, I knew exactly who to call. (Mind you, I didn't have him apply any chemicals last year as I have two elderly dogs that I don't like exposing to chemicals so I fully expected the weeds to return after this winter's rains). I had been obsessing about what to plant in my small garden plot for a long time and kept getting stumped on what pollinator-friendly plants(help the bees!!) could work in 4 hours of blistering sun per day. After reaching out to several people I found Rafael on Yelp and had a great time working with him! He encouraged me to look for flowers I liked and then he would advise if they would thrive in my location, and he made himself for me to send him pictures and get his feedback whenever I needed it. When prepping day came he was able to seal the side of the garden bed so water wouldn't get into the house, then he prepped the soil, planted everything, and installed sprinklers. Everything's blooming very nicely now with no die-offs, and we're getting a lot of compliments from our neighbors. I'd highly recommend working with Rafael if you like taking part in the process and collaborating with someone who is very knowledgable, efficient, and reliable. Mr Sanchez and his team are great! I'm just sorry I did not take any before pictures, because my yard was a mess after the recent rains I had weeds everywhere and big ones!! My previous gardener had disappeared and I did not have any Woody for a few months. Sanchez Gardening has completely transformed our cactus backyard into a kid-friendly garden with roses, lavenders, green grass and planter boxes to grow vegetables. They also set-up a sprinkler system on timers and total cost of the project is very reasonable. The owner Rafael is very professional, down-to-earth and a super nice man. The fire department notified us that we needed to clear the brush on the hill below our house, as it does every year. My neighbor gave me Rafael Sanchez's contact information and he did a wonderful job last Saturday, including taking the brush collected to the dump. My yard is "low maintenance," but that occasional rain we get in spring and a few weeks of neglect lead to a whole jungle of weeds and dog do-do bombs. Sanchez is my guy! He is prompt, friendly, reasonable, and non-judgmental about the mess I've made. I asked Rafael to help with my back/front yards. he said he would be able to help with the weeds, reseeding etc. We agreed for him to come by at 730 since he said that he was not able to 8. ok fine. At 7:59 i get a TEXT MESSAGE saying my side gate is locked. (note! i have two 6 month old puppies so of course i am not going to leave it unlocked, nor would i have just left it unlocked even if i didnt). i responded right away and came out to let him in. he was waiting in the car and then approaches me to let me know he had all his equipment out and was waiting for me. he said he knocked on the gate and since no one answered he loaded his equipment back onto his truck. i dont doubt that he knocked, but since i dont have a door bell why didnt you just call when you were there? you knew i was there. i was really confused by that and his hesitation since he repeated how he had already put everything back. i asked, "so are still able to do it?" and again with hesitation he says, " well i mean..." so with that, i told him forget it! as he walks off he thanks me for wasting his time. when i get back in my house, i see he had replied to my first message to letting him in, and he asks, who was paying and it has to be in cash. well of course im going to make sure you received the money. why wouldnt i? but if you had enough time to send that message, AFTER you had reloaded all your equipment then why make it seem like you cant do it????? seems like a cool guy, and im sure his work wouldve been as others say but dont blame this on me. if you really came to make your business grow and receive the money, then you wouldve made it happen. your approach about that was really poor! :) read more

We moved into our home with the intention to go drought tolerant but didn't have concrete plans on what to do or when we would be able to do it. What we didn't expect was a winter of rain to turn our yard into a forest of weeds. Cut to Rafael who not only responded to my call within an hour but was also able to give us an estimate a day early. Within a week he and his team were at our house cleaning up our mess. They removed all of the weeds and dead grass in the front (much to the neighbors relief) thereby giving us a clean slate to start our drought tolerant landscape, trimmed the hedges, cleaned up the grass in the backyard and gave our Pomelo tree a much needed haircut. I called Sanchez Gardening on Saturday to get a quote, and I was fortunate enough that Rafael was only a few minutes away on another job. He came by and gave me a comparable quote to others I had received, but his timeliness and the sense of reliability he exuded set him apart. Additionally, he was able to do the work the following Monday. I don't know if there's such a thing as an urgent gardening project, but if there is, mine was it, so I was relieved to have it taken care of so promptly. It wasn't a small job--months of neglect coupled with this spring's crazy rain had the yard overgrown. I SCORED! I was fortunate enough recently to find Sanchez Gardening when I was looking to exploit a very short-notice 'window of opportunity' to get my property cleaned up. After (literally) months of neglect, due to (insert life issues here ;), the place was in Very Poor shape, and I needed some extensive trimming, cleaning and general landscape maintenance done. After returning my call quickly, on a Saturday, no less (the first Great sign- so many folks take a full day to call back), I was pleased to hear Raphael would be able to come by that evening to bid the job. He showed up earlier than projected (which also helped me out), and was extremely pleasant to talk with, and very studious about walking the property and making sure we both understood clearly the work to be done (read: Professional). He came out bright & early Monday, and he and his assistant got right after it, and kept at it until it was beautiful again! He went above & beyond in a number of areas, even removing a (really) nasty dead hedge, and trimming an out-of-control tree in the front yard until it looked like a 'feature' and not a 'problem'.. ;) All in all, more than five hours in the (Brutal right now) Sylmar heat.. No fun. And although I would certainly not have faulted them for taking a lunch and cooling down for a bit, they just kept moving until it looked Awesome. The place looks better now than the day I moved in, not kidding. The price agreed was more than fair, and the work Raphael and his man performed was extensive and meticulous. He was able to make it happen on (very) short notice, and didn't even balk at the fact that this was not a contract, but a one-off clean-up (I usually maintain my own place, but, again (life issues)). To summarize; I asked a LOT, and he came out & gave EVEN MORE, and was a genuine pleasure to do business with. I will ABSOLUTELY be calling Raphael back again the next time the situation arises, that I'm not able to handle it all myself. I've hired so many gardeners in the past, that should've chosen another line of work. Mr. Sanchez, left a business.card at my front door, like so many others. I added his card to my collection of gardeners until I was ready to find a new gardener. I've had major health issues and my property was over run by overgrown trees and weeds. I call Mr. Sanchez, and was very pleased when he quickly returned my call. He stopped by that evening as he promised. I began to show him what all had to be done, and also explained my financial situation. He gave his recommendations, and that was the beginning of our friendship several years ago.
