I bird here quite a bit and just love being alone in nature, enjoying the sights and sounds of birds singing, and watching Hummingbirds zipping around me. You can stand in one place and spot up to 20 birds in just a couple hours! Well, at least in the Spring time. :) There's not a lot of parking. The tiny lot is sometimes closed in the late afternoon so you'd just have to park on the residential streets. But other than that, the park is easy to access.

Gilman: where the homeless took the bathrooms, but nature took the win…read more Gilman Park is one of those little neighborhood parks that manages to feel like a hidden gem. Tucked off Hartford Ave, it's not huge, not flashy -- but it's beautiful. These days it's more of a birdwatcher's haven, with plenty of trees and green space to just breathe and get away from the city noise. It used to have more: barbecues, bathrooms, the kind of amenities that made it a full-on family spot. But over the years, the facilities got shut down because of heavy use by the homeless community. What's left is simpler, but still lovely. I come here on weekends because we use the park for martial arts practice -- and it's perfect for that. Wide open space, fresh air, and just enough quiet to train without distractions. The park attracts birdwatchers now too, and it's easy to see why: it's calm, it's green, and if you look up you'll probably spot something feathered flying by. Not everything survives gentrification -- except the birds. Gilman Park may have lost some of its original features, but it's still a beautiful, open space to relax, train, or just watch the world go by. If you want family cookouts, look elsewhere. If you want peace, fresh air, and a place to practice martial arts or watch birds, this is your spot.

The park's across the street by St. Juliana's Catholic Church, so that happens to be walkable from this park. Street parking is available. Just be careful when you're stepping out of your vehicle - people drive by the corners VERY fast, with the huge blind spot coming down a slightly slopey road. Otherwise, would return to this park!

The play structure was enormous and filled with lots of opportunities for risky play (definitely for bigger kids, lots of big drop potential for little ones but doable if you're actively exploring with your child). Highly recommend this park, especially for families with active children over the age of 5-6ish.

They have enough parking, they do games on the field too. They have a playground for older and younger kids, they also have an area down below you can have birthday's and you can ride around if you want too. I love this park it's sweet and everyone is always friendly here. Yesterday met our friend she met when she was around 2 years old, was nice to see them and let our kids play. It was such a beautiful night too. Calming breeze with the sun setting i got some beautiful pictures too. Baby girl and her friend got to play for a couple hours and met some friends too. Always nice kids at this park, they had fun. Except a little boy they were playing with ran off and the Mom wasn't paying attention and i physically could not chase him so I had baby girl try to catch him but then he just kept running further away. We told the Mom and she ran to try and find him was a bit nerve wrecking thinking this little boy was lost he ran through the bushes and then baby girl spotted him at the top of the hill where houses were thank God and the Mom ran over and got him. I can only imagine her scare i would have ran after him if I could but couldn't thank God baby girl spotted him though. After that the kids played a bit longer and I was able to catch a bit of the sunset :) Thank you for keeping this park so nice and pretty and all the friendly people that come here such great memories at this park watching baby girl grow up.
