As a dark chocolate addict, I've been wanting to try San Jose Candy Kitchen for some time. I hadn't had any chocolate for several days, so I decided to have some delivered today. I ordered my favorite, dark chocolate almond clusters, as well as English toffee, chocolate peanut clusters, almond bark, and chocolate hazelnuts. It was delivered quickly and everything was nicely individually packaged. The two squares of English toffee I ordered were like two bricks. Massive and covered in powdery almond pieces. They tasted good, but were too hard and thick. I prefer smaller pieces of toffee rolled in larger pieces of almond. I wasn't too impressed with the almond clusters or bark, either. It tasted okay and had lots of almonds in each bite, but the dark chocolate was overly sweet and tasted like the type of chocolate used in grocery store candy bars, even though they make it right there. The dark chocolate peanut clusters were the best item. They had a wonderful touch of salt that was so delicious. I would definitely go back for more of those. Next time, I'd like to try a caramel apple and chocolate dipped strawberries. Both look scrumptious on their website. read more

It's out of the way for a casual stop. The store is off the street and up the alley. But it was constantly rated highly for its Dubai chocolate bar and that's what I was looking for. Got there a bit early and even though they weren't due to open for another 10 minutes, the owner let me in so I could get one of those bars! How nice right? FOOD: The sweets in the display are all made by hand right there at the candy shop and they taste nice and fresh. They have a nice variety but since they are known for the Dubai chocolate I got one of those (which my daughter loved so it was all worth it) and a caramel apple which was so delicious. Nice and fresh and so big. Just what you want for the price. SERVICE: I can't say enough. So nice and thoughtful. It wasn't a huge store and the selection wasn't overwhelming but the quality was terrific and isn't that what you want? Dubai-Bye-Bye (sorry for this one ¯\_(ツ)_/¯) I admit I get obsessed easily with food, and my current obsession is Dubai chocolate. For those who aren't following this food trend, it's essentially a chocolate bar filled with a creamy pistachio paste and crispy kadayif (filo strands). It's very unique and craveable, I highly recommend it. I've found candy bars at Middle Eastern grocery stores, and at a different bakery in Camden Park (rhymes with C'est Si Bon) that were both pretty good. However, my favorite so far has been the one here from San José Candy Kitchen. Even at a whopping $20/bar, I felt like it wasn't a terrible value as the bar itself is pretty fat, and I've seen smaller for more. They make them fresh in-store and they have some other Dubai chocolate related candies, but this was all that was avaliable upon our visit. If you're in DTSJ, I highly recommend heading this way and giving their stuff a try. read more

Candy shop of the ages. I feel like my inner child came running out when I walked in here. They had all kinds of unique goodies that I got me super excited. I came for the Dubai chocolate, but I ended up getting caramel corn and strawberry lemonade Gummies as well as butter beer. I just feel like they have really unique items and it was fun to shop there. They had a tons of different beautiful chocolates. They had chocolate covered banana and cheesecake. Pretty good candy apples at this spot. They taste fresh and if you're a sugar lover you'll probably get a lot of cravings taken care of. A decent variety of product here for the sweet tooths. I have to give 5 Stars when 5 Stars are deserved. Let me just say that the Dubai Strawberry Cup was divine! It was actually more than divine! It was earth shattering to my taste buds! I fly into San Jose fairly often and just had a terrible sweet tooth brewing. This shop was next to my hotel. I went in and saw they sold Dubai Chocolate, and its something I never tried before. Problem is, I wasn't sure if I would like it or not, and I didnt want to dish out $20 for a chocolate bar I might not like. I then noticed they had a Dubai Strawberry Cup. Worst case scenario, I could remove the Dubai Chocolate, and enjoy the Strawberries. I asked for a scoop of vanilla ice cream in it. It was hot out, so I rushed back to my hotel room and locked myself inside. I quickly pulled this Cup out and began to dig into this concoction. The moment my taste buds deciphered what I was now shoveling into my mouth was the moment I questioned my life choices! I literally fell in love with every single bite. The crunch of the pistachios, the burst of juice from the strawberry, to the ice cream soothing the tongue was everything I needed at that moment. If you like dipped Strawberries, then this is similar but better. The way the chocolate coats the tongue, and the strawberry sneaks in is just perfect. That Dubai Chocolate is on another level too. Im eager to get back to San Jose and order myself another one. I admit, chocolate is my addiction, and I refuse to get help for it. The San Jose Candy Kitchen hooked me! I also have to say, their candy apples look beyond amazing! And their fudge? Forget about it! I believe this is a family run place, and the man that I suspect was the owner was more than happy to add a scoop of ice cream in my Strawberry Cup. The service was excellent! Super-friendly and holy cow, so much sugar in that shop! I was on the hunt for reliable ice cream because I had a full night of disappointing food/dining experiences and thank goodness we stopped in here for my life-affirming mocha almond fudge sundae because I wouldn't have been able to handle another disappointment for the evening. It was a generous scoop of ice cream and I had so much fun looking at all the various candies in the shop while we waited. They even have candy-themed drinks! Came to this area with some friends for a project. I ordered a Raspberry Truffle Milkshake out of impulse as I was thirsty, and found it to be far better than I expected it to be. The drink was a bit on the pricier side (ten dollars for a milkshake that's around the same size as your usual boba drink from drink places nearby, which are usually around 5-7 dollars) but it had the perfect level of sweetness and flavor that you would have difficulty finding elsewhere. I'm not sure if it was worth ten dollars and the price definitely deters me from wanting to buy a signature milkshake again, but I would be willing to come back to try some of their other items. As for the shop itself, it had very nice decor. There's some benches outside if you want to sit down, but there are no tables so you might be best off finding another place to do work if that's what your intentions are. read more

It's a very unassuming spot. The service was impeccable. A very friendly greeting and my husband and I were the only people there so it wasn't pushy or overly serviced. She showed respect that we wanted to look around and answered any questions we had. A no-frills candy shop in pretty much every way possible. Not to say that it's horrible though. The chocolates kinda remind me of those of See's Candies: nothing mind-blowing but dependable in terms of being true to their respective flavor. I also tried the dill pickle popcorn here; very minuscule dill pickle taste but otherwise decent salted popcorn. The man at the counter was very aloof. I'm used to candy shops having an inviting atmosphere; this one has dim-lit-plain-bodega-mini-mart vibes. Ehhh I suppose if you have a sudden hankering for some chocolate and/or popcorn and just so happen to be in downtown SJ (it's open until late evening) I'd say it's worth a peek. read more
