Things I loved about the Grand: - Easy parking within a block (or two) via street and dirt lots. All of it was free parking. - Not fighting huge traffic other than I-580-EB on an evening. - Along a really cute downtown area that was about 3-4 blocks by 3 blocks. - Cheap snacks at the Grand that included beer on tap, wine, sodas, bottled water, candy, and nuts, all of which was very inexpensive by comparison to the Orpheum in SF. (Water, soda - $3; candy - $3; most alcoholic beverages were $6-9, IIRC.) - All great seating once you get inside. I didn't feel like there was a bad seat in the house. - Beautiful interior, just as ornate as The Orpheum. - Awesome lighting and sound, unlike the Golden Gate Theater, which has had terrible sound in the last two years. - Not a huge line to get to the restroom. - A space indoors for merch sales, for groups like All-4-One that choose to sell things. New ownership had no clue how to run a club, so they asked a management company to take over... we thought "hey this might work"... NOPE; it got even worse. They let go our PGA pro because she was a female and the interim GM was extremely misogynistic. To make up for this and not be sued, they hired another female head pro... she's really nice. The Interim Gm is now back to being the Course Superintendent..... not very good at that either... dead spots in every fairway, tee boxes are round mounds of incline or decline, hard pack in bunkers, weeds in the fairways where grass should be, people even have signs on their back fences begging them to fix the grass, our driving range is supposed to be grass most of the time... better to call it "on weeds" than "on grass". We haven't had club wide tournaments in a long time - only men's, or women's club events... nothing club wide for everyone. The food was AMAZING... 5 years ago... We used to be able to get some great food after a round but now we get half a$$ed dishes. Ordered a burger in the bar and the patty was a frozen thin puck of leather... sent that back. They used to have the best chicken fingers, now their chicken tenders here are worse than wal-mart -- seems they order the same ones that chili's does for the kids meals. They had a special "potato skins" added one day... that photo is below... they were potato wedges with barely any cheese, mushy and sad. Same tired sh1t on the menu every weekend. The F&B Manager is lacking and doesn't seem to know how to run a bar. She removed all the member's favorite beers and wines from the club. She treats her employees that have been here longer than her like they don't know anything about what the membership wants. Events at the club have declined as well - no more new years events, member events start at 5pm on Wednesdays... if you commute, don't expect to make it, no more concerts, haven't had a prime-rib & lobster night in years. The response when we ask about anything -- "thanks for your feedback". Really the only thing keeping our membership here is the staff in the bar. We love the bartenders and the wait staff. The Management are running the course and club into the ground.

The Underground Arcade is definitely more on the retro side but a nice little place to host a party for young kids. This place offers a great value and while it's hard to find this place from the outside, there was ample street parking. They allowed outside food and the staff was over all helpful and professional. Worth checking out for a party for young kids!

On multiple pages, they kept saying things like, "if you are offended, take it to God in prayer first before coming to management." Okaaaaay... Clearly they've had issues with parents in the past. My daughter's teacher was really sweet, and she enjoyed going to practice each week. About 8 weeks before the recital, I realized that we were going to be out of town for the dress rehearsal for the recital (which are mandatory), but we would be back for the recital itself. It was definitely a mistake on my part, but I thought we had enough advanced notice to inform them, and I knew that my daughter we be able to attend all other rehearsals. I had already purchased a $50 costume, and we had been present and on time to all previous practices, so I took my concerns to the staff. The secretary empathized with me and felt like the issue could be resolved, and suggested I talk to the owner, Jolynda. Once I explained the situation to her, she coldly dismissed me and bluntly said that my 6 year old could not participate in the recital (because she would miss ONE dress rehearsal). Not only was she curt in her response, she then proceeded to express her dissatisfaction in my mistake, and how it was going to mess up the whole dance, now that my daughter wouldn't be performing. "You really should've told us sooner" (at this point, we were 6 weeks away from the recital....). For claiming to be a "christian" dance company, they certainly don't show it. My 6 year old couldn't be in the recital from one missed rehearsal? Unreasonable, but fine. I get it. Rules are rules. Her delivery was just plain awful though. The most un-Christlike I have been treated in a long time. Oh, and the cherry on top? She has a "We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone" posted on her door.... Sounds Christlike, doesn't it? I should've trusted my instincts from the get-go when filling out the paper work that was PLASTERED in policies about praying before being offended.

I found friendship in this club. The club kept the meetings fun and occasionally hosted special events. The learning curriculum was fantastic and well-developed, they had textbooks, speech practices, and opportunities to practice leading. It is all geared towards making people better public speakers and group leaders. The members were improvement-oriented, wanted others to succeed, and pinpointed areas for improvement in kind ways. Sometimes some of the members were too "nice" in delivering criticism but at least they made the effort mention areas for improvement. This group met on Tuesdays at noon and not many people are available at that time, however, if you are able to go you'll be meeting inside Tracy's beautiful City Hall. I highly recommend this group if you want to improve at public speaking and leading meetings, join an activity in the Tracy area, or have a place to meet new people.
