I've moved about 8 times in the past 20 years. This company was the worst, and left me in quite a bind. Understand that they don't have insurance, so if anything happens - they'll say they aren't liable. As other reviewers have mentioned, if you ask questions they can hostile pretty quickly. I hired them through the Thumbtack platform, and was clear about needing to move a 2 bedroom home plus shed, and that I had books and a lot of stuff in general. I thought we were all set, but 2 nights before the move (night night, like around 9p) they called and asked what size truck I needed. I told them I had a lot of stuff, and would need the bigger option. They asked me to take pictures of all of it, at 9p 2 days before the move. I wasn't able to wade through my stuff let alone photograph it all, but I assured them I'd need the larger truck.
They arrived with a very small rented truck. From my experience with other movers, I know this wasn't the standard size for a 2 bedroom. I immediately knew my stuff wouldn't fit. They suggested 2 trips. Did I mention I am a new, single mom and my son was 9 months old at the time? This was a long, hard day for us both.
They were slow. Packing up the first load (a little over half of my stuff) took forever (about 5 hours) because they were trying to tetris everything in. They rushed to unload, throwing stuff everywhere. Boxes piled high in my livingroom. They left a shelving system in the way of the garage door, which caused me to have to have a friend of a friend come out to make sure it closed, and a tech come out later to make sure it was opening and working properly.
When I asked if they had insurance during the 2nd round, they became immediately hostile and decided the move was taking too long (because of the small truck and all of the tetrising!). I had to beg them to continue. They loaded a few more things before telling me they were done, and I'd have to get someone else to move the rest. What they'd loaded on the 2nd run was done quickly, but TV's were left unwrapped, etc. There are dents and scratches on all of my furniture. A bed they'd disassembled was left disassembled.
I had to go through thumbtack to negotiate a price reduction for the garage door repair, and to pay the 2nd group of movers several weeks later. We went back and forth several times, and I felt very pressured and had to provide lots of photos, receipts, etc. The 2nd moving company only took about 1.5 hours to load, unload, and assemble the remainder of my stuff - probably 40% of the move.
Do yourself a favor, and go with someone insured who owns their own trucks (and isn't trying to save money by renting the smallest one possible). read more
