I've been coming here for the past 5 years. This is a family friendly owned business that really knows their stuff about your eyes. You should come here for any of your eye care needs. They do a good job at explaining things and talk about preventative things since the eyes can show some signs of things that might not be doing well in the body. The office is nice and clean and they have a good selection of glasses to choose from. If they don't have the frames, you can always bring it to them and they can get the lenses installed for you. They do accept VSP. read more

Great overall, great in particular. I have a complicated glasses prescription that gave me trouble elsewhere. Ryan updated it with precision, professionalism and geniality! He helped me understand aspects of my vision and restore my confidence. The next time I need my prescription updated, I'll come back here. I have been a patient here for over 10 years, I have brought my husband and children here, and after my experience today I am leaving and not coming back. My husband and I made an appointment for 11:00am. We arrived promptly at 11. We waited about 15 minutes. The wife who works at the front desk knew we arrived and had been waiting. While waiting I wanted to try on frames. I asked the lady if I can try on some frames locked in a case. She said "hold on I just have to finish this." Another patient walked in & she started helping him, completely ignoring that I was waiting to try on frames. It was already 11:25am and neither my husband or I still had not been called. We asked how much longer the wait would be and she said "well you know how he likes to talk (referring to Dr. Chia)". That didn't answer our question. At 11:30, we asked her to ask Dr. Chia how much longer the wait would be. She stood up from her desk and walked away. She returned and said "he'll be done in 10 minutes." That meant we wouldn't be seen until 11:40- which would bring our total WAIT TIME TO BE 40 MINUTES. They need to understand that we cannot simply WAIT 40 minutes without any kind of notice. We had our 2 year old with us, so they could have been more courteous to let us know the wait time would be extensive when we arrived. We ended up leaving. And like I said, we will not return nor recommend this business to anyone. If they knew that the patient before was would run into our allotted time slot/appointment, then why couldn't they have the courtesy to give us a heads up? Either by calling my cell phone or at least notifying us when we walked in? The lady who works the front desk KNEW WE WERE WAITING A LONG TIME, and SHE DIDN'T EVEN have the courtesy to APOLOGIZE FOR THE WAIT or EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE THAT WE WERE WAITING. She asked if we wanted to come back later in the day or reschedule- but we live 30 minutes away and today was my husband's only day off. It was a TOTAL INCONVENIENCE TO COME INTO THIS OFFICE & COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME. I even mentioned to her that as a long time patient for over 10 years I DIDN'T FEEL VALUED & she ignored me. If this is how they treat their long time patients then I WILL NO LONGER WASTE MY BUSINESS HERE AND WILL DEFINITELY TAKE MY BUSINESS, ALONG WITH 5 OTHER OF MY FAMILY MEMBERS' BUSINESS ELSEWHERE. Side note: If the patient prior to us was late, then they could have notified us. Sure they're accommodating the other person however WE ARRIVED ON TIME and they WERE NOT ACCOMMODATING TO US AT ALL. read more

Been going here for over 15+ years! Dr. Chia has always been very thorough in his assessments. I've never felt rushed and he is always personable. Dr. Chia is great at explaining things related to the eye in a way that is understandable. You can tell he is passionate about his profession and in ensuring patients have great service. A couple years ago I had a change in health plan. I went to my new in-network provider and was underwhelmed by their service. Since then, I still go back to Dr. Chia despite the out of network cost. I've been going to Dr. Chia for nearly 15 years. I find him quite competent, good bedside manner and have continued to go there even I moved to El Cerrito. I took a brief respite, found an eye doctor in Berkeley. The prices were outrageous and they gave me close vision (over 40) glasses that I'm just growing into five years later. Mrs Chia, the receptionist helps me choose my frames, is honest about the ones that look good and the frames that do not look good. She's not warm and fuzzy, but I don't need warm and fuzzy. I need to get in, get out and have nice looking frames and well fitting contact lenses that help me see well. I plan to continue travellng to Vallejo to see the Chia's. read more

Outstanding Doctor & Service. I've always had eye-care benefits through Kaiser, but am more than willing to pay out-of-pocket and out-of-network for Dr. Chia's services. With limited optic choices in Vallejo, I became a patient around 2006 and recently reunited with the practice. His receptionist-wife holds down an often-times steady lobby and is really nice. I visited this place about a month ago. I was LONG overdue for an exam and decided that I wanted to purchase contact lenses instead of glasses. The woman who works at the front is so cute!!! She is also very polite and friendly. Based on other reviews I am guessing that she is the wife of Mr. Chia? The exam was quick, to the point and awesome. Mr. Chia does a great job of being direct and to the point when explaining things to his clients. I did order a year supply of contacts, but an error was made and they only received a six month supply. I was kind of bummed about that, but it was not a big deal at all. Dr. Chia has been my optometrist for over 20 years and I am surprised by marks lower than 3 stars. I no longer live in Vallejo but I know when my eyes are well cared for. Examinations are thorough, the facilities are clean and Dr. Chia stays abreast of all the latest developments (I attempted to schedule an appt. while he was away at a convention). As for the service, I find them to be very kind and pleasant and given the criticisms of the prior posters, I believe they'll acknowledge the problem and will make the necessary improvements. Their selection of frames in store though, I'll give 4 out of 5 because they are not ultra high end but they'll have something for everyone. You can order frames that they don't have which is a plus. I've spent over 2 hours going through frames before and I never felt rushed. read more

This is a 'gem' of a place tucked amongst the chaos of busy Vallejo. Everything one would expect in this "mom & pop shop" but on a highly professional level! I went there for the first time a few months ago, and the father (Dr. Chia) performed my eye exam. He was so considerate and let me know what he was doing every step of the way. He called me by my first name, and I felt so truly valued as their customer. I didn't want to have my eyes dilated for a test, so he asked his kind son, Ryan, (the other optometrists) to perform a state-of-the-art test for glaucoma with a new portable scientific instrument that didn't take the dilation of my eyes. Afterward, the wife/mother helped me pick glasses. There was a lot to choose from. She took her time and brought out many, many, many choices. She was so patient and seemed to have a genuine desire for me to be happy with my new glasses. She actually helped me pick a pair that I am very happy with and have had a lot of compliments on! The temple of these new glasses got bent. I called and the office and the son got me in right away. He took my glasses and spent a lot of time bringing them back to new ones! First time I've walked out of the optometrist with new prescription glasses and not felt nauseous ! I haven't had glasses in over a decade that I can actually see perfectly, there's always been some problems with them. I am so happy I can see! DMV here I come! Dr Chia and his wife are very nice, professional and thorough Their office is clean and they have a nice selection of frames. The only downside is the over powering scent/air freshener in the shop area, but they were very amenable to turning it down. Even though I have Kaiser I pay the extra to go here. read more

I took my glasses in for an adjustment and the front desk assistant claimed I had not purchased them there and when I told that I had and been there on numerous occasions she repaired them and pushed my glasses toward me in a very aggressive/unfriendly manner. A couple of years back I went to Chia's office and and got some glasses. Came in without an appointment and the took me in on the spot. Gave me and eye examine quickly. They also took my frames which were not in their catalogue of frames and had the lens put in 5 or so days. BTW the frames they do carry are quite nice. 2ys ago my Dr. made a referal to another optometrist to not far from this office. They were nice , got an new glasses, I wasn't overwhelmed by their customer service. OK, its time to get new glasses, got new glass, got a new prescriptions. brought the frames I want, again from an outside source frames, which I know can be adpated...the said no, mumbo jumbo..NO we can't do these frames. HUMMM, really??? So go back to Chia's office. OH yeah we can take this prescriptions and we'll send the frames, if they can't do it, we'll get intouch. Today I got my news glasses, they are perfect. I have never taken my son to see Dr. Chia; however, based on my initial experience with the receptionist in the front office, I don't think I will ever take my son here. The reason I came to this office was because they were the only office in Vallejo that carried the particular brand of frames I was looking for. Anyhow, during the whole visit, the receptionist seemed very annoyed as if I was wasting her time. Although, she did lighten up a little bit ,when I picked up the frames a couple days later, the initial meeting just killed it for me. A couple of my co-workers and friends see Dr. Chia regularly and all agree that the receptionist is a bit rude, but they overlook it because Dr. Chia is a really good OD. I saw Dr. Chia for an eye exam, both contacts and glasses. He was very friendly and knowledgeable. Very good bedside manners. I had a very pleasant experience with him. The reason why only 3 stars is because my experience with the receptionist (also his wife) was not so pleasant. I decided I wanted to purchase new frames. For those who wear glasses, know this can be a very difficult process. It's something you put on your face, so you have to be very satisfied with your glasses. Anyway, she gave me all kinds of options, i just couldn't find anything I liked - so we went through many options. During the process, she continued to sigh as if she was annoyed I was taking to long. I wanted to say "I'm sorry, am I bothering you by asking you to do your job"? I restrained myself. I was spending $150 on glasses, and plan on wearing it on a daily basis, I wanted to make sure I was making a good choice. At the end, her sighs and attitude finally got to me. His wife who runs the front desk has always been very accomodating and helpful when choosing my glasses and selecting colored lenses. Her personality can come off a little dry at times but she really is a sweet women who will tell you if your head is too small for the designer glasses that you want. I have always appreciated her honesty and commitment to helping me make the best choice for me. They keep a variety of options available and are very up to date with the designer selections. I have referred dozens of people to them over the years and I will continue doing so. People always ask me where I get my glasses. Long story short, my next eye examine, I went right to Dr Chia and just paid out of pocket. I know when my eyes are well cared for. Examinations are thorough, the facilities are clean and Dr. Chia stays abreast of all the latest developments. I have Bells Palsy which severely affected an eye where it was unable to close or blink. I found them to be very kind and pleasant and did not treat me like a circus freak. I completely disregarded the criticisms of the prior posters. I retired from AT&T and am fully aware some people are just miserable and want to stay that way. They become angry if you don't share in their misery. Their selection of frames in store make it easy to find something for everyone. You can order frames that they don't have which is a plus. I highly respect and recommend Dr Chia's services. read more
