Ordered fish tikka to take away. For 26$ we received five pieces of fish. Let alone any kind of spices they did not even boast of salt., a basic ingredient of Indian cooking. Not all the watery green chutney that came with the dish gave it any kind of flavor. Moreover there was an after taste. Had we been eating at the restaurant we would have returned it. But oh I just remembered Samudhra has a No Return policy. I mean you are welcome to return it but it will still be added to your check and you will not be offered an alternate dish. On the other hand they will offer to pack it for you, so you can go home and eat something you couldn't get down your throat at the restaurant. In this case of course it was already at home. I had always enjoyed visiting the restaurant with my family, friends and customers. I really thought that this would be my go to place and recommended it to many friends. Here's the shocker. A week ago I went there on an afternoon with my " high profile " friend from India and weather was great and was in my shorts. The receptionist told me that , its the policy of the restaurant not to permit patrons wearing shorts and respected that sportingly and left. But to my utter disbelief, when I went again yesterday with a customer , i saw a local patron was allowed without hesitation, despite he wearing shorts. It occurred to me as a blatant discrimination. I questioned it immediately but they did not do anything about it. Its a shame that this being an Indian restaurant indulges in discrimination against their own tribe. This place has gone really downhill. I wish they focused less on dress code and creating a certain vibe and focused more on the quality of the food. The place has a cute bistro vibe but by no means is an upscale restaurant. We've been here a few times before but I will definitely never be returning again. Last time I wanted to come they told me they had no rice so we tried again today and the food was below subpar. We asked the waiter if the boneless meat was white meat and he assured us he was yet all the meat was thigh meat. If I knew that's what it was we would not have ordered as many chicken dishes as we did. We ordered 4/5 chicken dishes and each one was harder to eat than the first. The chicken was chewy, fatty, and undercooked and honestly every single person in my party was really struggling to eat it even the people who eat other cuts of meat struggles. We got the murgh chicken tikka masala and this is the first time I've ever had chicken tikka masala which had whole pieces of onion and veggies in it. I initially was going to ask for the Murgh dilliwala but the waiter said it was extremely mild and to order something else. I asked if they could make it spicy and they refused. We got an assortment of naan which smelt so strongly of butter. I'm honestly nauseous just writing this review. This food was highly overpriced and definitely not worth it even for free. We had a party last weekend. Booked in advance and we were told that there would be a minimum spend of 50$ per person. The entire booking experience was bad as multiple people called us although a holding amount was given. Food was very ordinary. The worst was they charged my card twice once on the holding amount and the actual bill ( which was more). I got to know this when I got my credit card bill. I made a reservation for 4 people for dinner on a Friday evening. When I made the reservation I was told it will be in lounge area which I was okay with. When we friends reached there we were made to sit on the high tables instead of couch which was a bit inconvenient for us as one of us had issue. This place is trying to impress that they are very high end restaurant. They have priced their entrees high in attempt to accomplish this goal but food is just ok and no where in sync with their prices. In addition they have this weird strict dress code. Last summer we had gone there on a very hot week day wearing shorts and nice polo just to sit outside on their patio to have lunch. We were not allowed. We were not happy but understood and went somewhere else. Recently we tried again going for lunch during weekday. My daughter was nicely dressed with leggings and high end blouse, purse, etc. Again, they would not let us in simply because " leggings" are not allowed. They make the paneer in house so the paneer actually falls apart in your mouth. It is soooo good. I generally would never give top rating to a restaurant until they go above and beyond. This restaurant not only has great food but more importantly it has amazing staff and service quality. My family and work has enjoyed their hospitality multiple times and they leave no stone unturned to leave impressed every single time. Their "unlimited" lunch thali is our favorite. Disclaimer: I did not had food here. We called and made a reservation for outdoor eating for our group for having lunch together. Our reservation was cancelled due to bad weather (understandable!) but when we called to accommodate us in indoor dining and were even ready to split the group in two separate tables. Our request met with a cold and indifferent response. The person on the phone was very rude and was not ready to consider. After a long discussion, we were given an option to sit in two groups but with $50 minimum spend per person (this is for indoor dining not lounge - and for lunch). We don't mind spending $50 per person but given our group wanted to have thali, how could we have managed to spend that amount. I have been to many top rated and Michelin star restaurants and no one asks for a minimum spend for food. Today my friend and I dined at Samudra. We didn't have reservations, the place was crowded so much that we couldn't even get a lounge table. The restaurant and longe filled up as outside seating was closed due to cold temps. We were offered bar seating. Which we did. One of the bartenders - Dhruv - took our orders and provided excellent service all the while being busy preparing drinks for other custoner orders. And, he didn't miss a beat. Next time, if he is bartending then I'd choose to seat at the bar and order drinks and dinner just to get quality service. First time here and we think it's the BEST Indian dinner we've ever had. From the delicious appetizers to the entrees the flavors were amazing. The chai White Russian was perfect and finally the coffee as well. The atmosphere is very contemporary. They are very COVID conscious and we felt extremely comfortable. The host/manager assured us that we would enjoy our meal and she was half right... we thoroughly enjoyed the experience with the meal.
