I took my car here many times for oil changes. Last time I took it there, Sam called me and told me he looked up my car and found out it only took synthetic oil which would cost a lot more. I told him to not put regular oil in the car, but he didn't listen to me. He put regular oil in my car. I also asked him why he hadn't looked up my car before when I had taken it there several times, but he got angry and started yelling. I'm never going there again. read more

Very non unfriendly technician. Saw him poke a hole in the charcoal recovery hose then fail my truck because of the hole for smog. Told me it would be at least 40 or $50 to repair. And would have to be tested again for smog and and another $ 51.75. I'd stay always if there is a choice I can just imagine how they do any other work read more

Came in for a brake, light, and smog test for my car, was met with disrespect and poor customer service from one of the employees. 2 of the 3 were doing their jobs fine, but the older man is rude and condescending. Worst place I have ever been to!! I went in for a simple oil change and tire rotation, the older man there said it would take 30 mins Seeing how there were not anyone there. So I opt out of getting picked up and decided to walk across the street and get some food. I come back they are now busy. I watch 3 cars that came in after me and had already left and an hour later I ask. Is my truck done it was just sitting there. Sam the manager tells he still need 45 more minutes with my truck. I had explained to him I have been there now over an hr a few cars have gotten there after me and are now gone. He tells me to go ahead and take me truck or give him 45 more minutes. I took my car in for a smog check. They told me it passed. (I didn't read the paperwork, just believed them). Eventually I got the notice after sending in registration fees that my car had failed the smog test and I needed to send proof. I took the car back and sure enough the paperwork said it had failed. Okay that was weird. So I left the car there to figure out what was needed. They called me back saying I needed a catalytic converter and spark plugs, totaling over $1,000. I decided to get a second opinion since I had replaced the calalytic converter (It turns out my car has 3). When I went back to pick up my car they brought the price down to $875. Long story short, I had my spark plugs replaced by a friend, and took it to another smog repair for testing and it passed. Yes, I paid 2 times for smog tests (Sam's charges you half for a retest), but in the end I saved lots of money for uneeded repairs. I used to like this place. They seemed honest. What a joke! Took my car here since it's in the neighborhood and first off they guy who smogged my car stained my chair and got grease on my steering wheel. My car didn't pass because the check engine light bulb was burned out. So why didn't he tell me about the light before he started the test? Then he wanted $95.00 plus parts to 'see why' my light wasn't going on. Then he wanted to change my oil as it was 'dirty'. I'm not mad that my car light didn't go on but I think it's shady when he should have told me it was burned out, have me to go fix the bulb then bring it back. Not upgrade me with other services or test my smog anyway if the damn light wasn't going on knowing I wouldn't pass! If he would have done that he would have had a repeat customer. read more

I went to this establishment to get a smog done on my vehicle. They informed me that my cat was not on the authorized list of cats for CA. The told me to go up the street the Ed Hanson's and have them put a new one on and they would smog it again at no charge after I had driven my vehicle for 100 miles. I drove for 150 miles and brought it back to be smogged. They said that there were 2 unset's when they ran it through diagnostics and suggested I drive a little longer because the new cat wasn't registering along with a new O2 sensor. I brought it back after 500+ miles and they said the same thing. I called the number provided on their receipt for smog issues and the representative from Sacramento said that due to the age of my vehicle (97) it was allowed to have up to 2 unsets. When I brought this to their attention the "mechanic" said,"Oh, I'll help you out". Like he was going to make it pass even though it already had. This time he dyno'd my vehicle which they didn't do the first time but he insisted they had....I was there the whole time and watched, they didn't dyno my vehicle and I asked why they didn't the first time. They explained they didn't need to since it passed smog but the cat was not ok for CA. So now they charged me for a retest that they said would be at no cost and lied saying they did service they didn't. SHADY!! That's all I can say about these guys. I was actually referred to another shop by Hansen's when I told them the story I was having with this shop. Hansen's did great work by the way and I would recommend them to anyone. But steer clear of this place. I would have told him to get bent and taken my business elsewhere but I have to move really soon and don't have the time.... read more

I have been using this service for over a year, now. I usually go to a family member, but since he's still building his business and isn't doing certain services at this time, I have been using Sam's, and have been happy until today. A few weeks ago, I had some fluids replaced. Then last week, it was discovered that my fan trap was broken. When my family member saw this (I brought it in to him as an emergency, due to noise and a burning smell), he let me know that the only way this piece can break, is if pressure is applied (by someone leaning on it, mainly). Part of my service at Sam's was to have my radiator fluid flushed and replaced; which is directly behind the fan trap. My family member temporarily fixed the problem, and advised me to return to Sam's, and ask him to replace it. I called, and spoke to the manager, outlining the situation. I was told to bring it in, and they would see what they could do. When I brought it in, Sam was pleased to see me until I showed him the fan trap (it had partially eaten by the fan when it broke). He got very angry with me, and started coming up with improbable 'scenario's' as to how it happened, he then asked me who placed the zip-ties. I let him know who did it, and the fact that it was done in order to lift the trap and get me back onto the road until it was replaced. He said that if it was broken by his shop, then something would have happened in a day or two. My family member pointed out that if it was cracked, then it would have taken a while to break the rest of the way, because of road vibration. I then let Sam speak to my family member, and during the conversation, Sam started to get even angrier, started interrupting my family member, and refused to enter into a civil dialog. He then abruptly ended the conversation by stating that anything he (my family member) had to say, it could be said to me. He then handed me the phone, walked across the bay to a doorway, turned and told me that he was done and for me to leave. Except for the temporary repair, the mechanic's at Sam's tuneup Master's are the last ones to touch my vehicle. I find it very sad that he refused to make things right. I have been a good customer, and have referred others to this shop. I left quickly. A little while later, I got a call from the manager, saying that he and Sam 'were concerned' because I left without speaking to them (Sam told me to leave, so I did). He said I was a good customer and asked that I call them back. After the way he spoke to my family member and me, I won't call or go there again. read more
