I called about 3 weeks before the day we wanted to rent. Booked a Tri ton for all day and 12 full size adults. I made sure on the call that it would be comfortable for all of us. Specifically requesting a Tri-toon. ​We showed up on the saturday we booked for and they said they had us on a ski boat. I told them no so they gave us a boat. This boat had many broken areas and was infested with ants and roaches! We found some on the dock which they provided glass cleaner to us to spray the bugs....OK. when we got out on the water and went to get the life jackets that compartment was infested with roaches. The engine was leaking gas so there was a distinct gas smell the whole time. And a fish smell. Which we chalked up to being at the lake. When we pulled back up and started unloading g our stuff we found a full trash bag in a compartment under the front seats that had fish guts in it among other trash. They did comp my gas at the end. Which was only a quarter of a tank. They clearly gave us the spare boat or something since they got the reservation wrong. We made the most of it but that is ridiculous. We were also one of the first groups there and the only group with a full day rental. Wont rent here again unless they give me a day free. Be careful. Dont accept the red boat. Have been looking at Sams Docks for about 2 months for my moms 50th birthday. A boat was priced at $1079 for 3 hours and this week I went ahead and attempted to book it. When I tried to book it the price was different (still had the $1079 price but checkout was different) so I gave a call to check in. When the price was given to the lady on the phone... she laughed at me. I was then told that it was priced incorrectly and we would not be able to get it for that price. The price went from $1079 to $1709. I can see where it can from but I do believe thy price should have been given due that price being shown for over a month. Just from the customer service of the phone call alone... I do not recommend. read more

Can not wait to go again! For our anniversary on April 30, 2013 we got a groupon for a night cruise and dinner. The experience was well worth it. The boat is beautiful and clean. The crew was very friendly and the owner where amazing. We even where asked to raise the sail which made the adventure even more special. The front of the boat was full when we got there but taking a seat in the back proved to be just fine. We were able to eat our food at a table and after that we moved to the bean bags located at the front of the ship and enjoyed the night right. It was amazing and peaceful. We rented a ski boat from them for 4 hours, we had a great experience and their customer service was awesome. The chaparral ski boat is well worth the premium price. I would recommend getting there at least 45 minutes early to get all of your paperwork done. Keep in mind there could be others that are renting or returning in line in front of you. We will be back for sure to rent from Sam's Dock. One thing I would suggest in your rental webpage is to make it easier to rent tubes or skis. When renting the boat online it was not clear how to add the extra stuff. We had to wait to get to the marina to rent that. read more

Three words could sum up my whole review: Best. Wedding. Ever. That is according to my guests and I would have to agree. All the way from the planning to the actual event, it was smooth sailing! Capt. Mike and his staff made sure we were well taken care of and everything was beyond my expectations. Gina was so patient with me as was everyone, because I had a ton of questions along the way. I opted to use a DJ and photographer of their choice and I'm so glad I did! It took a couple of things off my plate. Waivers are required of all guests so I sent these out in advance and asked everyone to bring them. I highly recommend doing this. I hung my own floral, and brought a few decorations and one table. The caterer (Jim Lee Events) also brought their own tables. The ceremony and reception were all on the boat and it all worked out perfect. I would recommend this venue for just about anything large or small. I had 44 guests. read more

We were glad to find an open reservation the week before. We knocked into the pier while bringing the boat in and were glad to pay those damages to j hi oth boat and pier, but then they came back and said we damaged the ladder. Which was nearly impossible to prove but they wouldn't budge. Something about "bends in the ladder" that one employee said was fine then another came back and said they would graciously charge us $50 instead of $500. #okaywhatever Take pictures of your ladder before you head out to avoid bogus charges! read more

Staycation material all the way! Seven of us took this journey and loved every minute of it. If you go with a group, definitely go early so you can get seats together. Remember it is BYOB. Prepare for fun! I liked the small things they did to make us happy. There was a lady walking around frequently asking if we needed anything, there was nice music playing in the background, there was plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, and the outdoor seating area was simply decorated but pretty and inviting. At some point, they even hosted a golf game off the back of the boat! There was a guy there from Blue Mesa cooking pancakes and made to order omelets. They also offered some bangin' guacamole (though not spicy), sweet potato chips, fruit salad, sausage links, and two or three other unidentified things I'm sure were good. Water and soft drinks were complimentary. I found this deal on Travelzoo for $25 and I was very pleased with my experience. By the way, on the date we chose when we purchased from Travelzoo there ended up being like a Tsunami so we had to change our date. This went off without a hitch. read more

When we docked the boat, there were lots of couples situated on the front of the boat with blankets, provided by the crew, so we laid down on a big bean bag over a cargo net. The captain spoke a few words before sailing off then mentioned that we could volunteer to raise the sail. That was awesome. After sailing for 15 minutes, brunch was prepared by Blue Mesa. It doesn't compare to their usual weekend brunch set up but it was sufficient. It included chips, dip, bacon, sausages, potatoes, burritos, omelet bar, and fruits. Also, non-alcoholic beverages were available but it was BYOB so you could bring your own drinks and have them chill it. The amenity that I enjoyed the most was hitting golf balls at a target trailing the boat. It was difficult to get a good stance on the Astroturf but it was neat that they even had such a game. The boat ride was smooth, relaxing, and serene. The staff was exceptionally kind and accommodating. I recommend taking this a mini getaway to soak in the sun while laying out on a boat. read more

Where to begin...I booked the Chamonix II with Captain Mike for a surprise proposal this past weekend. Leading up to the event, the staff were amazing to work with. Gina check and double checked everything for me. Captain Mike spoke with me prior to the sailing to go over everything, as well. Big D Cats was willing to accommodate my every need for this special night. On the day of the event, they dealt with the caterer and set all of the food up for me. They took pictures and played along with my surprise. The crew on board were all smiles. They were friendly and inviting, and were on top of everything. None of the guests had to ask for a single thing. No offense to Captain Mike or his boat, but the experience was made so much better by the people he employs. That boat itself is impeccable. 30+ people fit comfortably in the interior (and yes, you can hide them all inside for a true surprise). Sailing across the lake makes for a beautiful view topside, or the tv's, bar, and games provide entertainment inside. I cannot speak highly enough of this company and the service they provide to their guests. I will absolutely sail with them again, and recommend them to anyone interested in something similar. ---I previously sailed with them on a group dinner cruise. What to do with restless relatives for a 20th Anniversary celebration? Charter a boat with Big D Cats for a spin around and swimming in the lake. We chartered the Lil Toot boat which accommodates 80 max. We had, I think, about 60 family and friends. It was perfect. There are restrooms on board. An area in front for sun-bathing and a large bar area in the center. One of our friends bartended for us and we brought some hors d'oeuvres as well. My hubby-to-be surprised me with a Valentine's day dinner cruise aboard the Chamonix II. He knows I'm a sucker for sailing and he scored extra points this year for sure! We set sail on time for what turned out to be a very relaxing and romantic evening. The music was well thought out and perfect for the occasion, a little something for everyone and it totally set the mood for the night! Since it's February, it was a little chilly but they prepared for that too! The cabin of the boat was enclosed and heated and they have warm, fuzzy blankets to wrap up in as well. Out on the deck they had a few HUGE two-person bean bags. We wrapped up in a few blankets and laid out there most of the night listening to romantic music, staring up at the stars and having an intimate conversation. It will probably be one of the most memorable and romantic evenings we've ever had!! I hear they do weddings and other events. We will definitely be heading back very soon! Best boat experience ever! I went on this boat yesterday for my friends b-day party. I'm sure it cost a lick but it was worth it! The boat is huge with a bar and heavy handed bartender ;) Cool thing too it is a sailboat and has a huge front deck so you get a real sailor "Jack Sparrow" experience lol. They sail on beautiful Lake Lewisville from the Pier 121 Marina. I chartered the sailboat for a wedding and family gathering. We had 40 adults and children for a 4 hour swimming cruise. From the initial contact email to the followup phone calls, quote, and cruise, the staff of Big D Cats was exemplary. Bill Caffy explained the details of the charter, the options, and other details. He worked with us to arrange a wonderful cruise. Captain Mike runs a tight ship and is a great guy to work with and sail with. The staff on the Chamonix II (Jacob, Dave, Angel on our cruise) made everyone feel so welcomed and comfortable, and went out of their way the entire cruise to make it a very special event. Big D Cats works with Blue Mesa Grill for catering, and they are very familiar with the boat and it's layout. The skill and experience of the entire crew was evident, leaving us feeling safe and secure (especially with all the kids on board) and relaxed. The kids enjoyed steering the boat with Captain Mike, the water slide off the stern was a hit during the swim stop. The beanbags were always full of relaxed people, and the tables and bench seats were great for people to congregate and talk. I had Sunday brunch with my BFF today aboard the Chamonix II. The food was catered by Blue Mesa. Brunch included a 2 hour sail around Lake Lewisville. The food was just as good as what we've had at the restaurant. The buffet included omlets, morning potatoes, breakfast tacos etc. It was a BOB affair so we brought champagne and sipped mimosas while we chated and enjoyed the lake. Good times. I was recently on this boat for a surprise engagement event. I flew in from South Carolina and this was absolutely worth the trip! The Captain and his crew were so attentive to each and every need of every guest in our party. The boat is just beautiful, inside and out! I must admit that at the start I wondered what we would do for the 3 hour duration, but by the end I was wishing it would have been twice as long. The event was catered by an outside party but you would have thought they prepared it all themselves as helpful as they were with the food aspect and clean up. They played music and there was plenty of room inside and out for dancing. The night we sailed, the temp was in the 30's and we were all concerned about being too cold on the catamaran. The temp inside with the heaters they had was comfortable without jackets. They immediately offered blankets to those who go on the deck in case they were cold, I wasn't expecting that! This event was one of a kind, perfect in every way! I will definitely be visiting Big D Cats boat rental when I visit Dallas again, even if it is with just my husband and not a complete chartered experience. It was so much fun! I just wish they had something like this where we live. It really is a gem! Reminded me of a vacation excursion, and all on the crew sure aim to please. This was AMAZING. My wife and I with our 6 year old son came for the Father's Day Brunch cruise yesterday. This was his first boat ride and he loved it. The staff did a great job from sign in to getting off the boat. Capt. Mike was super cool and even let the kids steer the boat from time to time. Since our son was the last one in line he was able to "help" steer the boat back into the dock and that was probably his favorite part. The Brunch was from Blue Mesa and all the items were really good. Since this was a BYOB boat, I brought a 6 pack of 1664 and there were other people that brought blenders and making drinks all over the place. Once the get out in the lake and anchor then they let the kids go swimming or go down a water slid. On the way to the anchor point they allowed people to hit golf balls off the back of the boat. It seemed like every one was having a great time and we will defiantly do it again maybe for a Sunset cruise or anything else really. We all had a great time. read more

14 of us did the sunset cruise for my friend's birthday. The $59/person ticket price was totally worth it. It's a BYOB dinner cruise and they provide you with coolers if u bring your own alcohol. The DJ was super nice..he let us do a happy birthday karaoke and he played a whole bunch of songs on our request which no one else on the boat could understand but you could see they were enjoying it =) Dinner was catered by Fadis Mediterranean and it was pretty decent. I can't put into words how much I enjoy being on the boat! I have been out on the boat many times and I have enjoyed it every time! Sometimes I will go for a relaxing evening and other times I will go with friends for a night out. It's completely worth it and I have yet to have a complaint or a bad time! No dinner cruise, more like a booze cruise. We joined some friends for an anniversary party that was billed as dinner cruise and firework show. it was swimming, burgers, and booze. We were under-whelmed. First we took a twenty minute ride to one spot dropped anchor and stayed there the balance of the night, so much for cruising the lake. Then everyone brought their own booze, which was fine, yet we brought two bottles of Almond Champaign $27 dollars each, which the bar tender gave away to a bunch of girls celebrating a birthday party. Thanks for that, when confronted he said oops went and got the half empty bottle remaining and gave it back to us and said here you go. The music for the first half to the time was all in spanish ( I guess for the crew sense no one else on the boat was hispanic), then they figured it out, or someone complained and they changed the music. The boat was to crowded with kids running around wet splashing water where we were trying to eat the dried up burgers and chips you had to get in a buffet cramed in the corner, and we had to just start on our won for no one one the satff did anyhting to get the ball rolling. When the fireworks started, in numerous locations, they were several miles away in which you could barely see due to being at horizon level. The music was so loud you could not hear yourself, or the one you were trying to talk to. The redeeming part was that our friends are awesome and they were worth a rough experience. We brought our own potato salad and desert. We had a great time visiting with them and a little line dancing at the end (only about 6-7 people could participate due to the dance area being so small, I get that, it's a boat). Outside of that, I felt tremendously for the others on the boat who we were stepping all over each other and a couple of singles who were actually isolated in a sea of confusion and chaos. Sorry, I do not recommend Big D cats unless you rent the boat for your own personal event. Then I would definitely tell them what I would expect (what type of music to be played, actual cruise around the lake, food to be served and how, and a staff that stayed out of your way). Love all the friends we got to hang out yet would not do that with Big D Cats again. read more
