Captain Doug was great at communicating about this, he understood that my 3 kids (7,6 & 4) were not going to be happy in those calm conditions because it tends to be too hot and a little boring. After a couple of reschedules, we went out on a cloudy day. We were a little concerned about rain but this man knows his weather and assured us it would be fine - maybe a couple of specks of rain, and it was exactly like that. Besides, he told us about his bimini (the big umbrella-like top that covers the whole sitting area) in his beautiful Lady Anne, a 30' Catalina boat, and exactly how to dress for the occasion. My kids were super excited, more about the innards of the boat, which he graciously let them explore, than anything. They went to see the cabins and the head (bathroom), and they were thrilled about the kitchenette. Then he let them grab the wheel, and at the same time he taught my wife and me about pulling the sails up, getting the front sail (Genoa) nice and tight, and a very awesome general 101 about sailing. We had a blast out there, realizing that Lake Lewisville is bigger than we knew. For a few hours, we forgot about everything else, we were the crew of a sailing boat that was able to harness the wind power to move pretty fast. We zig-zagged through the lake, then under a bridge where the Captain commanded the 3 little crew members to yell their lungs out (while taking some energy off, thanks!!), and then back to the marina. The whole afternoon created some memories that will be with us forever.

Thanks to Doug, I now feel a safe and confident sailor. He…read morealso taught me how to maintain and fix a few things on a boat. His skills come with an extreme kindness and patience. I am deeply thankful for what he shared with me.

Got to enjoy the party barge when my fiance's job booked it for a day. The gentleman running the…read morebarge was very friendly from the time we got on until we left that evening. It fit a lot of people and didn't feel crowded. We were allowed to bring food and drinks on the barge and blast the music as loud as we wanted. Once out far enough on the lake you can jump off the second deck or if you prefer climb down the ladder on the first and swim around. I would definitely recommend for a birthday, bachelorette party or even just to enjoy the view of Lewisville Lake. The only downfall is that there was one bathroom which got kind of hot and was pretty tiny but wasn't dirty or anything so that's a plus. The barge itself isn't anything fancy but lake appropriate in my opinion. Would like to come back and ride again soon.

I talked to Patricia on the phone several times and don't understand why all these other reviews are so rude to her- she was great to work with and I had no issues. We had 100 people, so as everyone got there the process was efficient to sign in and get everyone on the boat. We could bring our own alcohol and food, and play music as loud as we wanted. We also had some friends join us from another boat, and they were flexible about that. Everyone had an absolute blast. Everyone working on the boats was friendly and helpful, making sure we were safe but having fun. I would highly recommend booking one of their party barges, it was a great time, no hidden fees (like most other companies), and they were easier and helpful to work with. It was perfect for what we needed, and I'm so grateful they helped make our college graduation celebration such a success!

We found Discover Kayak and Steve through a search in our local area for basic kayak instruction…read morefor our Girl Scouts to accomplish their paddling badge. First, working with Steve was so easy and relaxed! As you can imagine, coordinating a kayak trip with Texas weather and multiple involved Girl Scouts posed a bit of a logistical nightmare but Steve was understanding all along the way! He was understanding when we dropped a few girls and added one back on and when weather canceled us the first few times he was very clear and quick with the communication. Second, Steve was incredibly informative and patient with our Girl Scouts. This was a group of girls ages 11-15 but most of our group fell into the 11-12 year old range. He kept the girls on task and made sure they were watching at the important parts without coming across as too tough. The girls LOVED the experience and I highly recommend Steve and Discover Kayak to Girl Scouts and new kayakers alike. Thanks again Steve!

Last weekend I entrusted him to teach two dear friends who ARE NOT great swimmers. One had had a hip replacement. He was so patient and accommodating. He eased their fears, taught them and they already are begging to go back out. Thank you, Steve, for helping me introduce my friends to the world of kayaking. We are planning another small group for next month already.
