On my own, I likely would have never tried sailing. I was born and grew up in Florida but never set foot on a sailboat. Before my 101 Island Bound class, I knew zero (literally) about sailing. My husband always wanted to learn, and because I like him (), I figured I would try it. Can't hurt, right?! Capt Buck (Brian) was extremely patient and taught me so many sailing tips in this class that I now look forward to learning more. He explained things in a way I could learn from. He never lost his patience and that made me feel even more comfortable to attempt to apply what I learned from the initial in-seat portion of the course. I got to meet his wife, as well, and she was a pleasure to get to know. Capt Buck's sailboat is very clean and he keeps it so neat and tidy. I admired that. It was a great experience that my hubby and I will cherish together forever. We now look forward to the continuing education courses offered thru Island Bound Adventures. I was surfing the web one day looking for water activities in the DFW area and I landed on the Islandbound Adventures website. Having been a lifetime power boater, I enrolled in their ASA 101 course to learn about sailing. It took 10 minutes of helm time on the 30' Newport sloop before I thought to myself, "I'm getting one of these". Captain Buck and his instructors made the classroom and the on the water lessons fun throughout the course. I've since taken the ASA 103 and ASA 105 courses with Islandbound and recommend them for anyone who wants to learn to sail in a relaxed setting where no question goes unanswered and you walk away with confidence in your newly learned skills. I've also joined the IB group in the BVI for 10 great days of Island hopping. Brian has such an intimate knowledge of the area that I felt like I was meeting old friends at every stop. We planned a bachelorette sunset sail for our friend and it was the MOST incredible experience. Captain Buck, Captain Ryder and Charlotte were the best hosts, helping us coordinate weeks in advance and going above and beyond for a smooth and stress free execution. They accommodated all of our requests, were quick to respond to emails and texts, and helped us customize our schedule so we could get back for our dinner reservation. I highly recommend doing this for any fun group activity, whether it's a birthday party, romantic anniversary, GNO or anything in between! The location is perfect and easily accessible to Grapevine Main Street for dinner or drinks after. We couldn't have asked for a more better way to end a day full of love, adventure, happiness and a relaxed anniversary than with a beautiful sunset, amazing weather and great company. Our captain was Brian, Brian was/is very friendly he taught us all a few things or two about sailing he was very informative. We felt like we were with friends the entire time, this was not only a romantic and fun adventure but it was also a nice way for us to get to meet new people. After browsing the web for sailing schools in North Texas, I decided to go with Island Bound Adventures on Grapevine Lake. Island Bound is located at Scotts Landing Marina, which is great marina with good food too. I took ASA 101 with Captain Brian in March and under his excellent teaching I felt confident enough to purchase my own boat a month later. Since then I have become good friends with the Island Bound crew. Everybody with Island Bound are really welcoming and friendly. They genuinely love sailing and it shows thru their excitement and eagerness to help people learn to sail! I highly recommend Island Bound Adventures! read more

I completed the ASA101 course this past weekend with the Island Bound Adventures team!! What a great experience!!! I have wanted to learn to sail for years but have been procrastinating but now I'm sorry I did. The class room instructors were very informative and knew sailing from top to bottom but were able to explain and answer questions clearly and completely. The on the water portion was a blast as we were taught maneuvers and each classmate took their turn to demonstrate each one. The best part was that you were sailing the boast yourself!!! Captain John Rider was a great instructor! He was very knowledgeable, professional, thorough and most of all patient. I knew nothing about sailing before hand and just reading the books wasn't making it any clearer. Actually getting on the boat and directing the crew using the proper terms made it all come together. After taking this class, I now feel comfortable sailing a boat of (almost) any size. I'm looking forward to gaining more experience and taking the more advanced classes. IF I COULD GIVE THEM 10 STARS!!! I had the best time of my life. Very first time on a boat and the skipper was so polite and patient explaining all the aspects of the sail and making sure I was fine. Had such a great and fantastic time. Will be definitely going back to sail. I recently completed the ASA 101 sailing course with Islandbound and could not be happier with the instruction I received from Captain Bryan and Captain Carla. I learned many important details and sailing skills over the course of the weekend that I will continue to use. I recently completed ASA104 with Island Bound during a 7 day, 3 boat flotilla in the British Virgin Islands. I can't say enough about what an awesome experience it was! Part of the group was along for the ASA course, and part was just there for a sailing vacation. Our captains, Carla and Hugh, were great folks that made us feel like family. Everyone had such an awesome time and the girls got lots of great sunset birthday photos. We could not have asked for a better evening. I am going to talk to some of my managers at my company and when we have clients, I am going to recommend a sail. My boyfriend and I received a two hour sunset cruise as a Christmas gift from my mom and to be honest I wasn't sure what to expect. Brian made this the hands down best Christmas present ever! I (the wife) took my husband on the Sunset Discovery Sail to celebrate our 5th anniversary. We were not blessed with much wind to actually sail with, but we were blessed with beautiful weather, a fantastically friendly and knowledgeable captain, and an all-around relaxed and lovely evening. Had a great time on this trip. We had two couples and a family of four + the captain on the boat. We all got to ride on the bow, use the internal cabin, and steer the boat itself. Great deal, especially through Groupon. If you are interested in courses to learn to sail, they also have very competitive rates. Only issue we had was scheduling, but in the end, we found a reschedule date. It was fun and a nice evening out. read more

Terrific way to learn sailing nearby. Relaxed, hands-on and very flexible. My husband and I were looking for a way to try a new sport without risk or a lot of up front investment. This is a MUST DO family adventure!! Took my 11 and 13 year olds out with Skipper DJ sailing on Sweet Dreams and their still talking about the whole experience. Memories to last a lifetime.
