We made a reservation 2 months in advance and paid $600 for a boat that held 12 people. 2 hours before our reservation on July 4th they called my husband and I and said they had to cancel our reservation for mechanical issues! How do you just find out you have a mechanical issue hours before you have a boat rented on a holiday?? Also they didn't even try to offer a solution. They never said they would try to find a mechanic to fix it and get us out later that day, nor did they ever offer a credit for the next time we wanted to rent a boat. They were unapologetic about the whole thing which leads us to believe they double booked it or someone came in that morning and offered more money for the boat we rented. Whatever the case, this was the worst customer service and lack of professionalism my husband and I have ever experienced. I will not recommend anyone renting from this place.

Underpowered, over priced, poorly maintained ski boats…read more We rented a "SKI BOAT" from Sam's Docks Sunday August 9th for 4 hours. The staff was friendly and helpful and the boat didn't break down. That's about it for positives. Although they advertised a Ski Boat with 300HP that would be perfect for any skiing, wakeboarding or tubing we wanted to do, what we got was a beat up bow rider sport boat that struggled to plane even before there was anything being towed. These boats don't have enough power to pull a wake board or skier. If that's what you want to do at the lake, these will let you down. The drivers seat was extremely loose, rocking wildly left and right all day. Looking underneath, the screws holding the chair to the mount where backed all the way out. The speedometer didn't work and the steering wheel had substantially excess play . Cosmetically the boat was clean but really beat up. Chips and gouges out-of the fiberglass finish all over the place, the passenger side windshield had been replaced with glass that didnt fit the frame, leaving a 2 inch gap between the top of the glass and the metal window frame. The bottom line is that the boats are very poorly maintained, underpowered and not well suited to the activities they specifically rent them for. All of this, and they are hands down the most expensive rentals around and will never refund your money after you book with them, for any reason. We have since found that there are plenty of private chartes available in the area for less money, waaaay better boats that are legit wake / ski boats! Best of all they come with a captain, all the toys you need and most will fully refund if you have to cancel as long as you give at least 24hrs notice. Should have done some looking around before renting at Sams. Hopefully this will help some of you avoid making the same mistake.

Then we found out that it's not even legal for him to do what he had advertised on Facebook. The staff at Sam's Dock was amazing and worked it out so that we could have a Pontoon Boat and still enjoy the day with our family who was in town from CA. They saved the day! They were friendly, helpful and concerned for us being taken advantage of by the Facebook guy. It's pricey to rent a boat, but it was such a great time, it was worth every penny!

I booked a sailing afternoon with Captain Doug for my family of 5. The wind Gods were not happy…read morewith the hot summer, so we had to postpone the sailing until the conditions were right. Captain Doug was great at communicating about this, he understood that my 3 kids (7,6 & 4) were not going to be happy in those calm conditions because it tends to be too hot and a little boring. After a couple of reschedules, we went out on a cloudy day. We were a little concerned about rain but this man knows his weather and assured us it would be fine - maybe a couple of specks of rain, and it was exactly like that. Besides, he told us about his bimini (the big umbrella-like top that covers the whole sitting area) in his beautiful Lady Anne, a 30' Catalina boat, and exactly how to dress for the occasion. My kids were super excited, more about the innards of the boat, which he graciously let them explore, than anything. They went to see the cabins and the head (bathroom), and they were thrilled about the kitchenette. Then he let them grab the wheel, and at the same time he taught my wife and me about pulling the sails up, getting the front sail (Genoa) nice and tight, and a very awesome general 101 about sailing. We had a blast out there, realizing that Lake Lewisville is bigger than we knew. For a few hours, we forgot about everything else, we were the crew of a sailing boat that was able to harness the wind power to move pretty fast. We zig-zagged through the lake, then under a bridge where the Captain commanded the 3 little crew members to yell their lungs out (while taking some energy off, thanks!!), and then back to the marina. The whole afternoon created some memories that will be with us forever.

They claim their boats are up-kept and traded in every 2 years..don't let them fool you. These boats are outdated and break down every other time you're out on the water, or your reservation gets canceled due to their poor maintenance and upkeep. stay away and go to their competitors :)
