Costco has earned its reputation as a reliable and well-run company. By comparison, the Sam's Club in Bluffton doesn't come close. In our experience, Costco operates in an entirely different league. While warehouse clubs all compete for the same customers, Costco consistently sets the standard. If you've ever wondered whether Costco truly deserves its reputation, visit the Sam's Club in Bluffton once. On your next trip to Costco, you'll likely feel as though you've entered retail nirvana. There wasn't a single aspect of our visit to the Bluffton Sam's Club that made us want to return. In fact, we couldn't leave the store quickly enough. This store is usually clean & pretty well stocked. They havel the typical assortment of various merchandise and groceries. Love the rotisserie chickens when they are hot out of the oven. The selection of beer & wine is pretty good. They also have a decent selection of non-alcoholic bevvies. I usually do self checkout and when I need an ID check, employees are typically pretty quick to come over & assist. read more

My wife's Sam's Club membership recently expired. I asked Sam's Club customer service if I could use a Groupon voucher to get a Sam's Club membership, at half price, in my name. The customer service clerk looked it up on his computer and told me I was eligible. I paid $25 and applied for the Groupon voucher on line. However, Sam's Club refused to honor the voucher, presumably because of my wife's recent membership. So I am out $25 and did not receive a Sam's Club membership. I have two comments regarding the way Sam's Club handled my case: First: The customer service and supervisorial persons I had the misfortune of having to deal with barely spoke English and were incredibly deficient in common sense. I explained that I had paid $25 in good faith and expected a membership card. They clearly did not understand that fundamental issue and kept referring to "complimentary memberships" as the reason for denying me a membership. Sam's Club clearly chooses to hire cheap, incompetent clerks and supervisors. Second: I think Sam's Club is in for hard times. I guess Sam's Club has all the business it wants because I will not be able to buy anything from Sam's Club (like tires and gasoline) without a membership and I am not going to fork over another dime to buy a membership. I have an MBA from the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley. As business students we reviewed case studies; both good and bad. I think my recent experience with Sam's Club would make a great case study of how not to run a business. Their business model seems to be to antagonize past customers AND ensure that they cannot purchase anything from Sam's Club in the future. My advise to Sam's Club management would be first: to hire employees and supervisors who are proficient in the English language, and second: to hire management personnel from top tier Business Schools like the Haas School of Business instead of from international diploma mills. read more

I have been going to the Sam's Club for years when visiting Hilton Head Island. Both the old and new locations have supplied many needs while traveling. This newer Sam's Club is in the low country, before you get to the Island. You can now take the great new Bluffton Parkway to avoid all the traffic on 278. We did two curbside pickups, and one walk in trip this past vacation. The curbside pickup parking spots are to the left of the Front Doors. Everything was correct on both pick up orders. We had items from all over the store. The trip inside the store was exciting post Covid lockdown. This location only seems to sell wine and beer and no hard liquor (this may be a South Carolina law or rule). We bought several items from the Butcher Department on the trip inside and were very pleased with the quality. Fruit, Dairy, and Cheeses were well stocked. My Sam's Club Scan and Go App would not work inside this store, so I had to self-checkout which was no problem. There are plenty of lanes for self-checkout and regular checkout. There were plenty of Staff around to help guests. It appeared as if the Café was open. read more

Just moving to the Bluffton area and Sams is the only Big Box Store in the area. I'm managing with what they sell here. But it's not Costco. I travel to Atlanta once a month to get my Costco fix.... #costcocanyouhearme The closest Costco is in Charleston and when I lived in NY and travelled back and forth to HHI I would hit Costco and grab what I needed. I have always had wonderful service at SAMS tire and there is one tech who is always exceptional but today was AWFUL! I had an appointment for a week and when I arrived I was not even greeted. The tech was rude and snippy with me. He was on his phone and clearly frustrated. He told me it would be 1 1/2 hours compared to the 45 min I was told on the phone. I told him I had an alignment scheduled after this appointment. 3 HOURS LATER!!! I missed my alignment appointment, the never once gave any update, and I watched my car just sit there untouched in the garage. If I didn't already pay when I walked in.... I would have taken my service elsewhere! read more

I haven't been a club member for over 3 years. The only reason I joined Sams Club was due to a discount Groupon for membership. This is a great local store if you like to get big box items in a warehouse like atmosphere. Their food selection is very good if you like large size items. I originally thought I'd need to be a member to use their liquor store which is somewhat attached to the main store, but found out that anyone can shop at the liquor store even without a membership. You just need to be of legal drinking age. They have large sizes of a limited quantity of items. All beer and wine can be found in the main store. I suppose between Sams Club and Walmart (next door) you can find anything you need. The access to the gas station provides great prices on fuel. read more

we placed a pick up order. got to Sam's 10 minutes after our pickup time our order still not ready. went to customer service was advised she can't help. sent us to a lady in green vest.lady in green vest said she can't help. she referred us to Steven. he said they are behind folks called out. asked why we did not receive an email he said they don't have that technology. we advised walmart does. he said they aren't walmart even though all the truck at the back of their building say walmart. a good a manager would help their employees if they were behind. or offer to help the customer pull the 2 items they ordered. Steven does not qualify to be a good manager or in a customer service roll. He definitely needs some training or put in another role. read more

Twice I have used the Club Pickup prepay option. Twice I have received a text saying my order is ready for pickup. Twice, upon arrival, I am told the items are not ready. Twice I have been told I'm TOO early for the pickup. Twice I have shown the attendant that I was "summoned" to the store by them. Twice I have been made to few like it was my fault and that I just decided to come early. There will not be a third time using this option. read more

This review is strictly on the gas station. Usually Sams had a drastically long line for gas. We came to this location and was able to pull right up to a pump. Actually, several pumps were available. The location is very clean as well. Gas is $3.84/gallon, a big pricy but cheaper than most gas stations. Getting in and out of this location is a bit hectic, which is why I deducted a star. read more

As the other reviews have said, this is no Costco. Sam's does have decent prices on (a fairly limited selection of) wine and that's about it. Everything else is so-so. The tire/automobile guy is impossible. Fortunately, Costco has now opened in Pooler and while it's a bit of a hike from where we now live in Bluffton it's still worth it to take a trip about once a month to go there. read more

This store has gone right down the tubes. Ever since Covid, it's been deteriorating. Spotty inventory, prices aren't as good as they used to be, not enough staff, and the checkout situation is idiotic and unacceptable (not enough cashiers, lines too long, etc. Maybe ditch the self-checkout BS and hire cashiers who know what they're doing. Why should I pay $150 for Sam's Plus Card, and have to wait in lines and check out myself?? I can do that anywhere, for free.) They've completely re-arranged the store, and not for the better. Lots of things they used to carry they don't now because they don't have room for them. And what's with like 4 aisles of prepared, ready-to-eat foods? Who the heck goes to Sam's for that stuff anyway? And don't get me started on that catastrophe of a gas station. Half the pumps are usually down (and with no signs saying they're out of order). During Covid, they CLOSED the little store next to the pumps and NEVER reopened it. So there is NO STAFF at the pumps when they don't work. If Costo ever opens in Bluffton or Hilton Head, this Sam's Club is toast. And so it should be. read more

Sam's out of my home area, thought could get what we needed. Unfortunately they did not carry. Worst part was my truck was the victim of hit & run in the parking lot. Sams leadership refused to assist in any way without a police report requesting a the video. Sams would not even confirm they had the incident on tape. I am very pro business however feel when a company gets to a size that they could care less about their customers feedback, issues and general decent customer service something is wrong with with that picture. Today I went to Sams to purchase some groceries. During check out the cashier asked me a question. I could not hear her so I asked her to repeat the question. To my surprise she responded "go back to your own country if you can't understand me" I was not expecting this type of a racist response and was shocked. I was born in the Philippines but I am now an American citizen, my family spends a lot of money at sams club. I will not be coming back. Moved to Bluffton last November and started using the pharmacy. I can only say the staff has been great, from finding hard to get Rx's and calling our Doctor for refills. I have nothing but praise for the staff and also a big THANK YOU!!!! read more

Recently relocated from the west coast. Costco was the bigger chain out where we lived, no Sam's Club in the area. I was excited to have a couple Sam's Clubs between here and Savannah. Got a membership at this location and sadly, was pretty unimpressed with this particular store. It's on the smaller side and didn't really have a lot of things we'd normally purchase (Gluten Free items, various electronics, food items etc). We won't be shopping at this store again. Recently tried the one in Pooler, GA and it was substantially better but I still don't think it'll be enough to sway us from Costco when it opens in Pooler in 2022. read more

They are now apparently selling Membersmark soups that "they" make and they have pulled off the great Panera Bread Shrimp and Corn Chowder soup. So disappointed! Membersmark variety just IS NOT as good! Discovered this when we recently purchased the Membersmark chicken, spinach, and asiago cheese sausage. TASTELESS! I needed 5 pounds of short ribs. The space in meat case was empty. I rang the bell for service. Fret about 2 minutes a woman working on prepared foods cane out. I asked if I could get the ribs. She spoke to the meat dept and they said they would cut them and it would be 10-15 minutes. I waited the 15 minutes. A meat dept person appeared and was putting meat in the case. I asked about my short ribs and it seems no one was working on them he continued filling the case and then said he would go back and cut the ribs. This took another 10 minutes. When I checked out I realized he gave me almost 8 pounds of ribs rather than the 5 I asked for. So it took me 35 minutes to get the ribs and cost me $55 rather than $35. He was at least polite, but the woman in prepared foods was less than hospitable. I moved here recently and have been used to the quality and service of Costco. This Sam's club does not compare. I would give it a zero if I could because that is the service I received. I was on vacation in Hilton Hesd when I got a nail in my tire. I purchased the tire rotation and hazard tire plan at my Sam's Club in Chesapeake Ohio. I went to Sam's in Blufftin to get it repaired. They had no cars in their shop and while I was there they turned two people away not sure why. The tires had only 26000 miles on them and had some ware on the side tread but had plenty of tread in the middle where the nail was. They told me that they could not patch it because of the ware. I took it to two other tire shops and both said they could fix it. The first one was booked solid for a couple of days and wanted me to leave it and they would try to work it in. I couldn't leave it since it was my only transportation. Beach Side tire worked me in right away and had no problem fixing the tire. I purchase tires from Sam's because they have locations all over the country and thought there would be no problems getting service. My mistake read more
