I brought my daughter's team skirt in for alterations and paid $50 -- more than the cost of the skirt itself. We discussed in advance that only one side of the garment would be altered. Instead, the skirt was cut down the middle, completely changing the style and making it unusable for her team. I was never contacted when issues arose, even though it was clear the seamstress was having difficulty. A simple phone call could have prevented this. Because the skirt was ruined, I had to replace it out of pocket. Despite this, the shop only offered 50% off the alteration work. I did not receive a refund for the damaged garment or the service. I explained that ethically, when a customer's item is ruined during service, the business should replace the item and refund the work. That did not happen. Very disappointing experience. read more

I took four (4) pair of fairly expensive pants to Sam's for a simple alteration---raise the hem from a 32" inseam to 30 1/2" inseam. Well, I just picked them up yesterday and all I can say that I'll never return to them for anything. Apparently, they must have given the pants to a four-year-old to do the work. The hem on each pant is different and is sewn crooked and zig zagged. Worst tailoring job I've ever seen. I will be going back to my man Papillon a mile to the south. $80 down the drain. I went to Sam's to have a tuxedo altered. I was greeted by Sam himself, a cheerful and fast-moving young man. As I tried on the clothes, he immediately impressed me with his attention to detail. He charged a reasonable price, promised delivery in a couple of days and said he'd do a great job for me. When I came to pick up the suit, it fit as if it were custom-made. However, Sam insisted on having me try it on again (this is the first time I haven't been the one to ask) so that he could check his work. Once again, he was fast but thorough. Ordered a tux for a friends wedding, which costs $212... tux was ordered in my size, only needed the bottom of the pants hemmed, and the jacket taken in slightly, and the cost of the alterations was $70! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!!! The worst experience ever. If I could give negative 10 stars I would. We weren't acknowledged until about 15 minutes after already looking around the store. The customer service is absolutely terrible. They're highly understaffed. The products were not delivered to us at the time promised though everything was paid for. Took over 3 hours later than the promised time and never once received a simply apology or discount. They completely over charge for alterations and they treat you llike they're doing you a favor. Multiple customers picking up their suits had lint/fur all over, including us. Owner fails miserably to multitask, was on the phone the entire time while trying to mock up alternations, close sales, and find products. We only dealt with them because of a pressing time constraint. I promise you the clothes nor deals are not at all worth the experience. I have to admit Sam and his staff were very friendly and patient, however my garments ( 2 dresses ) were not altered properly and I promise you I had to go back in the fitting room at least 10 times total between the two dresses. I spend $10,000 a year with Sam Alteration. I live in W. Bloomfield and the drive there it is worth it. Being a busy executive and traveling the world my time is short. I need fast, first class service and a reasonable price. I to not bicker or ask for better price the workers are entitled to earn a fair day pay. I buy suits and shirts from all over the world and bring to this shop. Often from traveling to China I come back 12-15 lbs lighter and have to have suits and pants taken in until I can put the weight back on then let back out. For anyone, any age or sex this should your first choice. By way when you are ready to leave they ask you when you want to pick it up not when it will be ready. Had the worst service at Sams Alterations on 12/Southfield Rd. Sam gets angry & said I wasted his time bc I chose not to let them alter my dress when he tells me I will lose half of it when I only wanted a hem. This is a floor length dress. Well, I purchased two suits from this a few months back. He had quite the price so I was amused. I had them altered in which I thought then that the alteration price was on the high end. So I thought whatever I got a good deal on the suits. I came back later on to get them altered since I had gained some weight. He wanted $80 to alter two pants! I was astonished at his blatant price gouge attempt. I decided to let him only do one and take the other one to a local dry cleaner which couples as a tailor. She charged me $10 and did the exact same job! He kept saying it was a big procedure but it was all fluff to try to justify his insane price. Sam, if you see this, you have lost a customer. Also, in the future don't insult the intelligence of your customer, after all you have plenty of competition. I wouldn't say avoid him all together but definitely be aware of his shady pricing practices. They are not fair and frankly unjustifiable. read more
