Always our favorite pizza place. Whether eating in, taking it to go or stopping in for a frozen pizza to make at home, Sammy's never disappoints. Cheesy garlic bread is the best and aside from #1 pizza, boneless wings surpass everyone else's! read more

Sammy's Pizza - Pizza box - Pizza Near Me - Winona, Minnesota

Best pizza in town and family owned. It is always good in the staff is amazing. It's not a fancy place so come as you are.

Ordered for pickup today... the lady behind the counter's super sweet, and the pizzas are very good as well! Yes, they're a bit more expensive, but definitely worth the $$. read more

I It's always been good pizza. I haven't been there for along time. But I do remember that when we were in Winona that's where we always went. We LOVED there pizza it was the best in town. The service was very good the people working were always smiling and friendly. The entrance and dining area was clean and was pleasant. read more

A GREAT place for locals and visitors!! The Monday night buffet was really good, and there was a great assortment of pizzas, and the chili was delicious!! Jeanie is the highlight, she is a TRUE DELIGHT!! Jeanie makes everyone feel like family with her caring and loving way she takes care of you!! If you love a family filled environment and good food, Sammy's Pizza is where you need to eat!! read more

The pizza is very good and that is why it gets a 4-star. As for the buffet a 3-star at best! This place offers a buffet on weekdays. Not sure about weekends. The buffet is pizza, broasted chicken and some other pasta items. Also included is a salad bar. Most of the time you can find the pizza you are looking for on the buffet. The chicken is always hit or miss. Sometimes good, sometimes overcooked. This time it was overcooked and never refilled during our visit. The wait staff is very good and always helpful. Clean place. Features 1919 Root beer. Good stuff but no free refills on the 1919, other soft drinks have bottomless glasses! They also have a Ms Pacman game! read more

Had a terrific veggie pizza today at Sammy's in Winona MN! Great place, quick service and fresh ingredients.

This place is well known in the area as a go-to pizza place. My recommendation: order carry out. The place is a mess. While I was there on Friday (Nov 25th), there were 8 tables that were left a mess. I saw people busy working on bringing things to and from the kitchen many, many times, but no one grabbed any of the dirty stuff--ever. People would come in and look for a place to sit, but couldn't find any tables without dirty dishes and garbage. The wait staff were friendly and the pizza making station very busy. Fun watching them make pizza openly near the entrance. The pizza was pretty good--not good enough to make up for disgusting mess in the seating area. read more

Sammy's Pizza - a woman sitting at a table in a restaurant - Pizza Near Me - Winona, Minnesota

$22 for a "large"sausage pizza? Seriously? Since I was a kid I've been going there but I'll be rethinking this. We ordered a large and a medium for take out and the bill was $36 read more

We had delivery. The woman was really nice that took our order, but they were slammed with orders. Asked for an 8:45p delivery to give us time to go out for the sunset and get back before they arrived. 9:10ish we got our order. That was disappointing. The food portions were huge (I ordered a chef salad, my daughter chicken alfredo). We got plates and napkins but no utensils. Yes, I realize this is easy to forget, BUT, we were in a hotel. Thankfully we were able to get plastic utensils from the front desk. The pasta smelled great, but my daughter said it smelled better than it tasted. She said the sauce was thin so it just absorbed into the noodles. The side salad that came with it was substantial and a reasonable meal by itself. read more

My husband and I Walked in at 7:45. They close at 9:00pm. The cook mumbles "are you serious?!" Turned around and walked out. Would have liked to eat there but didn't feel like having the cook most likely spit in our food. The pizza is really good but I guess when they say they close at 9:00 pm, it really means 7:00 pm? read more

We were dropping our son off to college at Winona State (Go Warriors) and it was our usual Friday Night Pizza Night. Now, we're coming from upstate NY and have high standards for good Za. So it's only local shops (no chains...ever). We hit Yelp and this place popped up at the top and that was for good reason. We ordered a large thin crust with mushroom and pepperoni. Their crust is wafer thin almost like a cracker and held the topics perfectly. Mozzarella had a rich depth of flavor (even a bit salty) and was not some Cisco Foods bulk cheese option you find at so many low caliber places. The sauce was delicious. Not too much either and let the other flavors come through with each bite. The edge crust was not too much and helped keep the toppings at bay from your fingers. We also ordered a chopped Italian salad. Nice mix of basic "side salad" options yet the size was large enough for four people. So be prepared for what your ordering. Everything in the salad was fresh cut and delighted all that consumed it! The fresh garlic parm breadstick was also a "nice to see" item that my son devoured in 3 bites. Overall the experience was great. And I should mention the staff/owners are like your grandparents working the kitchen. Delightful, kind, and genuine people that I was so glad to see are still out there in this crazy upside down world we are currently living in. Stop in, be friendly, and enjoy a wonderful meal. read more

Good pizza and pasta. Nice pub atmosphere Root beer "was" awesome! Cheese curds were too

Wonderful place. From the moment I walked in I could tell I'd love it. Wonderful server and terrific pizza.

Visited during homecoming. Shared a table with friends who ordered about $50 worth of food. I joined them and brought in a small vegan sandwich from the co-op across the street. After I ordered a Diet Coke and vegan enjoying it with my sandwich I was told I couldn't bring in food. Being a vegan means I can't have pizza they serve. I ended up leaving and returning to the co-op where they have a lovey sit down area to enjoy my food. Didn't feel welcome at Sammy's and will not be returning. read more

Do you guys check your pizzas before they go out the door?? How could anyone look at this and think to themselves that this should go out to a paying customer?? It literally looks like you baked a blueberry pizza, said to yourself "oh crap it was suppose to be apple". Then decided to just throw apples and cinnamon on top of the blueberry pizza to some how "fix" the mistake. read more

Sammy's Pizza - Apple Dessert Pizza????? - Pizza Near Me - Winona, Minnesota

I'm giving 4 stars to a 3 star experience because the Pizza is that good. Sammy's is a Winona institution and we visit every time we are in town. The sausage alone is worth an automatic 2 star review if everything else was a disaster! We called for pickup. We were told 30 minutes, and when we arrived 29 minutes later, there were 4 employees making pizza in the front area, and two servers. Not a single one greeted me when I arrived and walked up to what I assumed was the take out / payment counter. After several minutes I told the female server I was here for pick up. She advised the pizzas were still cooking and about 10 more minutes. There was no follow up, and others that came in for pickup were as confused as I was. Customer service is low on the priority list, but that is the new normal at most Winona eateries. Once you take your first bites of pizza, the end result was worth it. read more

Food was really yummy but the service was iffy. I felt that the quality of the food was pretty high and they take pride in their ingredients. Service was eh but they were busy. I would recommend going read more

I was going to order some food and support but after hearing the price, I about died!!! 60.00 for a lg pizza and 2lbs of wings. I understand they want to save their company and shit but I can't afford 60.00 to eat!!! We as customers are hurting too... When we called back to talk to them about the cost the lady was screaming at me about how we need to support local businesses.. I'm sorry this is happening to local businesses but it's happening to the customers as well!! I will never spend a damn dime in that place!! The guy on the phone taking my order is rude as well. Maybe not rude he just hates his job and needs a hug. read more

Guy was super rude on the phone, super huffy like he was annoyed to be answering the phone, and they don't begin delivering until 5.

Good pizza that I occasionally have a craving for. Best sauce in town. Have yet to try the gluten free, I am skeptical. Delicious wings. If you bring in a movie stub (the local newly remodeled movie theatre is just a block away) you get a free pitcher of rootbeer! YUM! EDIT: I have now had the gf pizza crust! There may or may not be some leftover in my fridge right now. It's fantastic. read more

Excellent Pizza! Visiting from out of town and gave Sammy's a try, glad we did. Should rate higher than a 3.5 but most of the complaints are not about the food. It's a pandemic and there's a labor shortage, cut them slack on delivery times, etc. read more

Any time you have a large group and the wait staff is patient and accomodating, you have to give the place props. The pizza is pretty good and they were rolling it out in good time. Definitely the "local" pizza shop atmosphere and I would go back. read more

If you like a thin-crust pizza cooked with love, this is your best option in Winona! We've never ordered the salad bar or other menu items, just keep it simple with a great pizza and a pitcher of beer or pop and we've never been disappointed. My family has been eating Sammy's Pizza for more than 55 years (starting way back when my parents were college students at Winona State and they still called it "pizza pie") - and you should do the same!! read more

Full disclosure: I love the Sammy's Pizza restaurants in Duluth and Hibbing. The Sammy's in Winona doesn't appear to even be related. My pizza was very undercooked--I am not a big fan of white cheese on my pizza. I nibbled around the edges while waiting for the waitress to come back and found out that since I took the corner piece, they couldn't throw it back in the oven. Sad. My wife's spaghetti was good though with huge portions of pasta--Hooray! The decor is similar to the locations in Duluth which is fine. Watch out for the Ms. Pac-Man/Galaga machines in the back if you have epilepsy as they will give you a seizure from the flashing monitors. Bottom line: if you are okay with bad service but good pizza, eat at Godfather's down the street. read more

Pretty good pizza, no frills. We got delivery. We ordered the Original Crew Special, it was pretty loaded with onion, green pepper, mushrooms, sausage and pepperoni. The thin crust is good and crispy on the edges. We will order them again. read more

I ordered pizza for pickup for a work function and a grilled chicken salad for myself (I don't do cheese) and I was so impressed with the service. They walked everything out to my car for me and were super accommodating and punctual with the order. And I have to say...most people wouldn't think to order a salad from a pizza joint BUT THAT SALAD WAS TO DIE FOR. Generous portion size, lots of veggies + mixed greens. It was great! Would get again. read more

I have read some negative reviews and I just don't understand them. The pizza here is amazing. Seriously best pizza I have ever had and I'm from New York. The folks who work here are just sweet as can be. It's a local legend restaurant and is a must see, must eat restaurant. read more

We had a BOGO coupon for the lunch buffet. After viewing some of the Yelp reviews I was hesitant to go. I CANT WAIT TO GO AGAIN! The pizza was sensational, the broasted chicken was so so good! There was a nice salad bar and spaghetti with oh so good sauce! Also two soups, garlic-cheese bread and broasted fries. We ate weigh too much! read more

Five stars if based on pizza alone. Subtract one star for pizza with wrong ingredients (offered to subtract $2 for putting onions on by mistake. Not enough when a person doesn't like onion). Subtract one star for the chintzy and expensive onion rings-average price = $1 per ring. Subtract another star for value. This place is expensive!! Two pizzas (Lg and Md), two small glasses of white wine and the ring plus tax =$58!!. We're talking pizza-not steak or seafood. Big city prices in a small town. We must have ordered off the tourist menu. Steer clear. read more

Hands down the best pizza in Winona. Over 5 years at WSU, I spent a ludicrous amount of money there. Greasy as heck, not very fast, and not the best customer service, but dang the pizza is good. read more

Best pizza in Winona by my opinion. Staff is friendly and the food is good. Nice large pizzas with an endless amount of choices for toppings. Pasta is just as good along with their sandwiches. Another staple of this WSU alumni. read more

We have been eating Sammy's pizzas for over 40 years and are very disappointed in the change in their pizza sausage. It used to have a very good seasoning and was excellent sausage. The current sausage flavor/quality is not even close to what it used to be. Our Crew Pizza last night had 4 pieces of sausage that we could not even eat, because of the fat in it. Very disappointed and will not be returning or ordering in the future. read more

Great Food, not only the pizza but suprisingly good hamburgers as well. Sammy's could use a larger beer selection (I think they only have 3 beers on Tap) and it can be a bit cramped in there on the weekends, but the pizza more than makes up for it. Note for you crust lovers- They specialize in thin crust pizzas read more
