We are heading back to Wisconsin, from Florida (day 2). We were ready for lunch and a driver switch so I was in charge of finding a place. Reviews on Yelp were not stellar for the area, for a quick sit down meal, until I saw Sammy's listed. Even though it was not right next to the highway we decided to head there. I believed it's a locally owned small business and they were still serving breakfast, Parking was not a problem and when we entered, we were greeted immediately. Our server came to our table shortly after sitting, she was pleasant, and checked in with us multiple times. My husband had biscuits and gravy; which was perfectly seasoned. One friend got an omelet with pancakes, she said everything was good, especially the pancakes because she's really picky about those. My other friend got the supreme burrito. He said was good but nothing he would get again. When he cut into it, it fell apart because there was nothing binding it together. It had plain ground beef and lots of lettuce His only suggestion would be to add some type of sauce or seasoning, offer sour cream. I had a BLT, fries, and coffee. The BLT was a normal sandwich and tasted good, the coffee was good, the fries were pretty basic and by the time they got to me, they were on the cooler side. I only ever planned to eat a couple otherwise I would have asked for a replacement. I scored this a 4 star because it was a nice place and if someone was asking for recommendations I wouldn't hesitate to send them here. read more

Ooh haven't been to a diner in forever and Sammy's reminded me I should do it more often. Went on a Saturday morning, we were greeted warmly, seated immediately and our food was ready in no time! I got the fiesta skillet which was amazing, also huge portion sizes! I took it to go and had it for dinner, so yum! My friends got triple berry pancakes and French toast which were all good as well. The fact I could get a short stack with raspberry compote was just the ticket for me! With the syrup and whipped cream to boot, it was very dedicant. A lovely breakfast stop, the buttermilk pancakes were great and served with warm syrup. My coffee cup was never empty and they had a large amount of creamers at the table, it was a delightful breakfast. If I'm ever in town again I WILL be stopping here. Horrible experience, dtart to finish. After my initial entry, I should have listened to my gut. Walked, just me. I was offered a table directly in front of the entry door, I declined and was okay with waiting. The Hispanic dude with the pimp shirt told me "then go sit out there", but the young lady wasn't as abrasive, she asked that I go sit in the waiting room. A couple came in a minute after me, amse thing, sit in the cold entrance. 3 gentleman were leaving and one was arguing with the older mexican pimp. He was very rude to them, much like to me. A table came available, the Hispanic dude grabbed the couple that came in AFTER me and seated them. Waitress came to my table, took my drink order. Came back with drink and I was ready to order. I said "corned beef has and eggs, over medium". She asked what meat. I was puzzled. She asked again. I said "bacon?" Then rye bread. No joke, the order was on my table in less than 2 minutes, but...it was missing the corned beef hash. Egg whites were runny, hash browns extremely undercooked and rye (marble) oily oily oily. I caught my waitress as she passed and mentioned it was missing the corned beef hash. She said "you didn't order it". I replied, "I did, you asked for my order and I said corned beef hash and eggs". She said I didn't, but she could get me a side of it. I said no thanks (I didn't want to pay an extra $7). She said it wouldn't be an issue, I declined again. She said it was a misunderstanding. Visited Sammy's Pancake house on a Sunday late morning and I was initially discouraged by the parking lot being mostly full but I was still able to be day immediately. Upon entering, we were promptly greeted and received a booth. Shortly after being sat, our server came, greeted us and provided recommendations as it was our first time. We all ordered skillets, and pancakes and it's well worth it to upgrade your pancake to a speciality type. My skillet and pancakes were amazing and very filling. They also make their own hot sauce which was so flavorful and a nice add to my skillet. I will return and recommend them. read more

Who would have thought this pancake house would have some of the best French toast you can find in Champaign? In fact it rivals my favorite breakfast/brunch spot... one small complaint would be the smaller size of the cinnamon French toast, but I couldn't take away a star for that because they were nicely executed. The melting butter was mounted on the golden toast and complemented the cinnamon and paired tastily with the syrup. I took a bite and was wowed! This dish came with eggs and hash browns, bacon, sausage, and ham. The bacon and ham were yummy... I am not as much of a fan of the sausage, it just didn't stand out, but I won't take a star away for that. Lastly, the coffee is also nothing to write home about. All things considered, I will definitely come here again for my French toast fix! read more

Rude as hell, tells you you got to leave before you are even near done, lacking on coffee and not even half way done on my food which is over priced and lame as hell, some people like to sit relax eat slow and enjoy their food. Not being rushed like your in a prison mess hall. Dude has the personality of a sour wet rag, doesn't respond to 'how are you?' And does not say anything when you say thank you or have a nice day..food is over priced and portions are small and the coffee is egh weak and not that good..cheap stuff. Menu is too big and hard to read. Place looks nice but over shadowed by the rude owner. The other pancake house is way better service, friendly, great coffee, quality food for the price. O'HOP. Was waiting for a table for 15 minutes, when 2 men came in and I told them they ha d regime the cashier their name. All of a sudden the owner came up to them and seated them before my wife and I and 3 other families that had been there longer. Then a cute girl walks on an gives name , walks outside and owner walks right passed everyone again and seated the girl and her friend before all of us again. Ate here with my cousin when I visited him in Champaign. Tables are never vacant when we were there. The food is really good. The gravy on my omelet is yummy. The place is cozy. His focus is moving people to their seats on arrival or out the door after they've paid. I understand the whole "hole in the wall," locally owned cafe shtick, but you could at least put some precautions in place in the middle of a pandemic. The food was just okay. I suppose I'd rather they be overcooked, though, as the number of flies buzzing around made me question their sanitation practices. Our server never checked in on us once our food was served, and at 2:52 the owner came up and said, "Ladies, we're closing," rather abruptly. Our server was Rosie and she didn't miss a beat. My daughter ordered the biscuits and gravy (no surprise there) as she is a connoisseur. She also ordered a strawberry crepe. She claims the biscuits and gravy are second only to First Watch. She ate them up with a quickness. The crepe she was not fond of. The wife ordered a western skillet. The potatoes are cut really thin and they're really good, cooked woth onions. I ordered the Greek omelet. It had Feta cheese with Gyro meat. The eggs were light and fluffy. The only issue I had with this place was the menu stated you can get pancakes instead of the potatoes. That's what my wife and I thought we did. We had pancakes and potatoes. The bill reflected way more that we expected to pay fir breakfast. So, please ensure the waitress knows exactly what you are ordering. But, we love Mom&Pop places. The total according to their menu was $10.25 without tax. The lady on the phone said it was going to be $22 and some change. She went to pick it up and asked why it was more than their menu online and she was told, the online menu was old. They took $4 off but, the point is change your menu to reflect the correct price and how does what she ordered go up $12 for a simple omlette, 3 eggs and sausage? That's Ridiculous!! Our server Alex was busy with several other tables and still went above and beyond in giving us a fantastic experience. At her recommendation, we had the delicious peach blintz and plan on returning for the strawberry and cherry options (she specified this order). The Philly steak skillet was excellent as well.
