First time at this location with my daughter on Dad's Weekend. The friendly hostess took my name and number and called 40 min later to let me know our table was ready. We enjoyed the spread out seating so not on top of others. Great server was hustling. Our drinks and food came out quickly and we enjoyed our skillets. WIFEY and I just happened into here after two of our go to places were on ridiculous waits (2+ hours) and another was closed. So glad that happened, though, because Wifey found this ABSOLUTE gem! Sorry to say I did not get any pictures (I know, I failed you). I was so drawn into the amazing and extensive menu and experience that it completely escaped me to even do my Yelp review! That's impressive! I realized as we were leaving though and got right on to remedying that. So this place had a 45 minute wait, which seemed a dream comparatively. It was well worth it. I am saying straight up we will be back and soon become regulars, I am sure. (Even though this place is about 40 minutes from home.) Our server was fantastic. She was present, as in available whenever we needed her - but not overbearing. She knowledgeably handled our questions and helped us choose between so many desirable options by making a great recommendation of one of my choices. Wifey was sold too and jumped right on board with me. We ended up getting the exact same things, cooked the same way! What was it, you say? The Desperado Skillet. We chose sourdough toast and over-medium eggs. Now, over-medium eggs are the most difficult, but these were perfectly cooked! The Desperado Skillet was also delicious. The coffee was very good as well. Portions were great and the prices were competitive. We left with full bellies and leftovers to boot! My first time in Le Peep! I ordered the Eggs Benedicts. The eggs were cooked just right! I really love the cheese sauce and the ham in the middle. The service was so friendly and fast! Just a reminder that you need to check at the front desk after getting the guest receipt (I waited for some time sitting there lol). The dining environment was super comfortable as well. We ordered takeout for a late breakfast and I chose the BLT. Mine was a Bl with very little lettuce and even less tomato... only a sliver of pink was included in my sandwich. I was visiting and had a large vehicle to park, this one was able to accommodate that. Friendly people great wait time and awesome service! On the other hand food was subpar. I would have rather waited longer... I had a skillet very dry, potatoes cooked but not browned had to add more butter and have cheese melted on to get food to stick together and stay on fork! Excellent place for a big weekend breakfast. Great food, super nice staff, and so reasonably priced compared to similar places in the Chicago burbs. Worth the drive from UIUC if that's what brings you to town. They were short-staffed today and could not offer patio dining. A party ordered their food to go and ate outside. What a good idea. Had a wonderful breakfast here this morning. We were told for our 2 top, a 25 minute wait, it was more like 10 minutes. Waitress was wonderful and very attentive. Our food was delicious. I went with the sailor Sam Benedict. My only complaint is on the "peasant potatoes". They were super soft and fell apart when trying to eat. I'd suggest a crispier option as these almost seemed boiled. I also had a strawberry fields smoothie - very yummy! Good sized portions, i was unable to finish my plate as there was a lot of food! This is my first visit to Le Peep, and as a true hospitality review, I start with 5 stars and work my way around. I was greeted promptly and sat immediately. They are within covid rules. My server greeted me however I do not know her name. I asked for a few minutes to review the menu. I found the menu to be ok. I think the design and the layout to be a bit confusing, as it took me a few minutes of review to actually find something I hope is extraordinary. I ordered an ice tea, which I will say is very fresh. After my server came back I ordered the Omni Omelet with a side dish of sausage gravy. The server did not suggest anything since this was my first time nor was an upsell suggestion offered. Service is key in this time of covid, and my reviews will reflect. I arrived at 840am and ordered within 7 minutes. At 855 am my tea is almost empty, and the server has not checked on me to let me know about my breakfast order. There were approximately 3 tables in my section and myself and approximately 6 or 7 others in the rest of the dining room. If I had to judge this breakfast on its merit, hands down it was a 2. The "peasant" potatoes are simply a deep-fried potato cube. They were cold and hard. The English Muffin, wheat, cold, light butter. The sausage gravy was water-based, tasted like it was thawed and warmed up, no flavor, certainly not what I expected. My ice tea was refilled by the server that delivered my food, not my original server. She was too busy chatting and play with the little girl and her dad at the table in front of me. She came checked on me briefly left the check,. Did not say a word. So when I finished, I was sitting there miffed, like I guess they don't want me to come back, I don't know if I pay my server or the hostess, I was not offered a to-go cup for my ice tea, I was not invited back, I was not thanked. I can see clearly, that I was a single man, sitting at a table, and I did not matter. I certainly did not see a manager walking around, talking to tables. It is clear, this restaurant, does not truly believe in epic or even good guest service, and great food. I am sure, they have many repeat customers, who enjoy, their food, and mediocre service. In comparison, to the many restaurants visit in a year, Le Peep, will not be on my list of highly recommended, in the Champaign-Urbana metro area. To truly compete in this day and age of great local restaurants, they truly need to step up their service, and their food quality, especially if their price point is in the mids $$$. I will use the following based on 1 - 5 Staff courtesy and helpfulness 2 The greeting from the hostess was quick and responsive. However, I told the server it was my first time, and she more or less could care less, did not recommend anything, certainly did not upsell me anything, no check back, except once, more interested in another table. Another server served brought my food and refilled my beverage. My server came by when I was halfway through, asked if I how was everything, I said it was ok, did not try to find out by my tone and expression, if anything was wrong, and left the check. Did not say thank you and hope to see you again or anything. Table service speed 2 I would say, for breakfast and as many staff, and a few tables, speed of service could have been faster than the 38 minutes I sat at the table. with 16 of those minutes waiting on food to arrive. Order accuracy 4 The food I ordered, came out exactly how I ordered it, Restaurant layout and cleanliness 4 The restaurant seemed clean, and the Covid protocols were in place. Food variety 3 (menu seemed a bit all over the place, took me a few minutes to find what I was looking for in their menu. Like a lot of other local restaurants, their menu seemed a tad pretentious, guests want a good wholesome breakfast and lunch, not some, fancy named food item, to make an impression or charge a higher price. It is ok to have your own signature items, however, I felt the menu was a bit much. Beverage variety & quality 5 Let me just say the ice tea, was the number 1 best thing. Too bad I couldn't take any with me, or get more than 1 refill. Food quality 3 Overall the meal was simply ok. The omelet was amazing, probably the only thing this meal had going for it. However, the "peasant" potatoes, English muffin, and sausage gravy was a complete letdown. Definitely, a Champaign staple that I've heard a lot about so I knew I had to try it before I left campus! Came in on a Saturday afternoon around 12:45 PM, ample parking as it's in a lot and practically no wait for a table since they close at 2:00. Our server was super patient with us and understood when we needed some extra time to decide what we wanted to order. I got an order of the Red, White, and Blue Pancakes and the Blarney Skillet. I was really excited for the pancakes since I thought they'd be Wildberry style presentation with the drizzle but the pancakes themselves were very underwhelming, still tasty nonetheless but not what I was expecting. The Blarney skillet definitely met my expectations and the corned beef inside was done quite well. All in all, I am glad that I got to try Le Peep out but I would say for the price point you might be able to get a better variety of choices on the menu at some other brunch places in town, especially if you are looking for additional hours of operation or less of a wait (I wouldn't have thought it'd be worth it if I had to wait more than 15 mins here, which I'd assume is the case for the morning crowd). read more

I was born and raised in Champaign and did not visit this restaurant till this year. Oh what a shame. I can't believe I got to eat there on my last day in town on vacation to visit family. I hadn't even heard of the place until my brother mentioned that he wanted to have his birthday brunch here. My mom and brother both got there a bit before my dad and I, so by the time we arrived, we were able to be seated right away. There definitely was a line forming. With such varied menu options, it was tough for me to decide what to get. However, since I had French toast the day before, I opted for a skillet- The Wanderer - A skillet filled with Peasant Potatoes, crisp bacon, onions, tomatoes and combo cheese all topped with two basted eggs. The skillet was good, but I decided that sour cream would really improve the dish. I asked my waitress for some and that was the only downside about the whole experience - it took forever to arrive! I was darn near almost done with my meal by the time I got it. I understand that the place is busy on Sundays, but they gotta work that out. I tried my dad's pancakes. OMG. One of the best breakfast/brunch locations in the CU. We have tried quiet a few of their options... Omelets, Platters, Pancakes... all good stuff. To this day, we have not had a bad item from the menu. That being said, be mindful of this... Pro: Great food, Sizable menu, Lots of Parking and a Friendly wait staff. Cons: Long waits to get seated (especially on the weekend), Limited kitchen capacity and a somewhat flippant manager This is our go to brunch place and we come prepared with the mindset that there will be a wait to get seated. Your whole party must be in attendance before they seat you, which is understandable. From ordering, the food is usually out pretty quick... but be mindful of what you order. As management explained to me, they have limited capacity with items like omelets... which can significantly increase your wait time. (In our case, we have waited 30 mins while later arrivals were served before us) Although this is not an every day occurrence, it is good to know if you have less than an hour for brunch. read more

The Nomad skillet is one of the more unique skillets that keeps me coming back to Le Peep. Where else are you going to find a skillet with broccoli and sliced almonds, smothered in a tasty hollandaise sauce? The house potatoes are pretty standard - slightly crisp and chewy on the outside while soft in the middle. There's a bottle of Cholula at every table, for those of you looking for a little kick. The English muffin isn't anything special. Overall, this is a place where I would return to meet friends, but probably wouldn't seek out otherwise. Champaign has many little hidden gems to find and Le Peep is one of them. I came here for brunch with a visiting friend from the air force, and he recommended on coming here as this was his favorite place to eat during university. They have a large selection of brunch items; all decently priced and good portions. I ordered the Belgium Waffle Combo and it came with eggs, choice of meat, and potatoes. Most other breakfast places you would have to order these items separately or as sides, which adds to your bill. But this combo option at Le Peep was just perfect. The downside of Le Peep is that they do not give military discounts. Also, my friend and I sat outside where there were spider webs everywhere on the table, chairs, etc. I know it is inevitable to encounter bugs when dining outside, but a little keen observation when cleaning the tables outside should be in order. read more
