I visited Silvercreek for the first time today, having lunch. At noon, on a Tuesday, the restaurant was already half full. My server was pleasant and friendly. The hostess was nice as well. The building is amazing. It gets 5 stars. The wood interior is beautiful, built from White Mountain Ash. I kept seeing great holiday parties in my mind with lit Christmas trees. Beautiful items like an antique clock adorn the walls. The outside patio looks inviting too, although it is not in use right now. The restaurant sits next to the creek with migrating geese stopping by for a drink. The location is enchanting. I started with a cup of tomato basil soup. The basil flavoring was nice and the soup good. The cup serving was a little small. I'd get a bowl next time. Next I ordered the Power Bowl which came with red quinoa and farro, roasted and steamed vegetables like squash, spinach, zucchini, broccoli etc in a pesto sauce. The recipe concept is excellent, however my grains were cold and the veggies bordered on mushy. The pesto sauce was flavorful. Overall, I'd give the food 3 stars. I think they can do better. Such a beautiful area to have a more upscale meal at! The creek is right there, they have a gorgeous greenhouse and gazebo, and parking was easy peasy. Reservations are available, and service is wonderful. Menu has vegetarian, seafood, and red meat options, so everyone can enjoy. Kids menu is also available! Drink options are cocktails, wine, bottled beer, and even mocktails. So, again, something for everyone. Highly recommend! read more

Upscale American restaurant with a homey feel. The food was delicious and competently prepared. I ordered the grilled trout, which came with sautéed green beans and roasted potatoes. The potatoes were impressively tender and just-browned on the edges, although under-seasoned. The trout was flaky in most of the cut but dried out at the edges. The pineapple salsa served with the fish helped, although there was some freshness to be desired. The items were indeed tasty -- the smoky char on the fish carried the other elements -- if not memorable. The atmosphere is perhaps the most notable feature of the place. The wood bannisters and tables around the space have the air of an old steakhouse that cleaned up its act. As I was seated, an anonymous piano arrangement of Pachelbel's Canon was piped into the room. The restaurant goes out of its way to cultivate a dual sense of class and nostalgia. When you're feeling like a romantic, treat yourself to a dinner here. read more

I've never seen this before in any establishment and honestly, it doesnt make you feel good as a customer when a business is not willing to take on the credit card fees and instead, make their patrons pay the amount - especially in this day and age. We went here to celebrate my daughter's white coat with some of her friends. The food at dinner was quite pricey. For the price one would think you'd get a decent serving of food but not really the case. Then they actually ran out of burgers. I guess there was a run on them because it was the most reasonably priced option on the menu. I got the salmon and it was cooked ok but the potatoes au gratin were undercooked. $42 filet was about a 5 oz steak. I would have done better at a steak house. We got charged an auto gratuity of 20% for our party size and the service was sub par because they had her waiting on 3 large tables. The kicker was the extra 4% to use my credit card to pay. Really. Sat down at table, not greeted for a while and waitress did not bring us the complementary bread, service hella buns. Ordered drinks, and instead of asking for our IDs, server starred at us like we had 2 heads expecting us to lead the conversation. Alcoholic drinks were good but way over priced. Order 2 apps. Goat cheese and cheese curds. Tell me why they were 16$ and we got 3 PIECES of goat cheese and maybe 8 cheese curds. I about had a heart attack. Entrees came, a bit overpriced as well as small servings. DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT eat the pesto pasta. It lowkey gave me the bubble guts not fun. Service was mid, waitress had no people skills. We went here for Valentine's Day looking for a nice evening. Everything was a disappointment. We were sat at a table on the side under one bright fluorescent lamp which flickered throughout the meal. The waitress came by every 2 minutes asking if we were ready to order. Clearly hoping to move tables as quickly as possible. My husbands $42 ribeye was 1/2 burned 1/2 medium. I ordered a starter salad which came at the same time as my meal and my fish was drowned in a thick sauce. The food arrived about 15 minutes after we ordered it. The server never told us about the dessert buffet we saw in the way out. Our entire dining experience was over in 40 minutes and $150 later. What a lackluster place all around. read more

It wasn't until we were seated that they informed us that it is a two dollar charge per person for outside desserts. Not a huge deal, but it would've been nice to know in advance. I'm a first time diner my brother recently ate at your establishment for a school outing. He gave rave review on your Duck Entree and Crème Brûlée. So i made a reservation for Saturday night and im so happy I did. There was no wait upon arrival I was whisked away to my table. Drink of choice at the table was Raspberry Margaritas. I personally ordered the Shrimp Cesar Salad with truffle oil my partner had the Filet Mignon which was overcooked unfortunately. She wanted medium well not well done. My brother ordered the whitefish he enjoyed it so much he stoped talking. To us once his food arrived. The crème Brûlée is the best dessert you can taste the fresh vanilla bean. Have been there for quite a few times. Tried different stuff each time and I would like to say without hesitation that it offers the best deal of (casual) fine dining in C-U area, considering food, price, opening time and service. It is a huge restaurant with wooden decor, having a bar, regular table, booths, outside seating, and a green house for gatherings and parties. But due to its popularity, I would suggest you to make reservations. The restaurant serves mainly new American dishes, featuring a lunch menu, dinner menu and daily specials. Below are reviews of some dishes: 1. Lobster Mac & Cheese. Medium serving size. The lobster meat was pulled and blended with the noodles. There were also lots of mushrooms. Both the meat and mushrooms are very delicious. The sauce was not super thick and works well with their free cheese bread. 2. Salmon Wellington. A pretty cool dish! A huge piece salmon with crispy crust outside. According to my server the salmon was first grilled then fried with the crust. Surprisingly it still tasted tender and fresh. Also served with perfectly grilled asparagus and mashed potato. 3. Burrata Crostini. Had lots of veggie and cheese. The burrata was rich in flavor. I also liked the green sauce at the bottom of the bread which had a good comb of saltiness and sweetness. However the bread was somehow too chewy. 4. Coconut Shrimp. Kinda disappointed with this one. I thought it was something like grilled shrimp topped with warm coconut sauce but it turned out to be fried shrimp with cold coconut sauce on the side for dipping. The fried shrimps already had a strong flavor which, combined with the thick and sweet sauce, was contradictory. 5. Grilled protabella stack. This is a 2023 Vegan Challenge dish. Basically a stack of (top to bottom) a huge mushroom cap, onion, tomato, eggplant, onion, tomato, eggplant, topped with some broccoli and tomato sauce. It was very creative and delicious! The whole dish looked like a burger but tasted more flavor than a burger! Sauce was rich and went well with the veggie. Also it was quite filling. 6. Poblano Chicken. A standard dish. Medium size. The chicken was tender. The mashed potato was rich and creamy. It had some broccoli mushroom and green beans but I hope it could have more veggie. 7. Crème brûlée. Tried it during Champaign Restaurant Week. Not crazily sweet for me, which is great to me but if you like very sweet food it may be a bit bland. I like its inside very much. The outside was transparent and hard. It tasted somehow like glass lol. 8. Tomato bisque soup. Very good! Very thick and rich. There was some blue cheese inside which added more interesting flavor to it. 9. Flank steak salad (written by my friend), Steak was perfect with medium rare but serving size could be larger. Veggies were fresh and juicy. Acocado, lettuce and crispy chips combined very well. Though the dish did not have much protein, it definitely fills your stomach and was indeed a healthy meal. 10. New Zealand Lamb (written by my friend). The lamb tasted fresh and tender, so good that I finished it in a few bites. The Tzatziki sauce on the top added more flavor. It would be my most recommended dish if there could be more lamb in the dish. 11. Turkey Brie lunch combo. Lots of food with only $17. I got a huge sandwich, some sweet potato fries, choice of side salad, a spear of pickle and a cookie whose diameter was about 20cm! The turkey brie sandwich was interesting in that it had some onion and apple blend which created a smokey-sweet flavor, and surprisingly it went well with the turkey and arugula! Went here for our wedding anniversary dinner and was extremely disappointed. The service was decent and the cocktails were tasty, but the food is awful. Order the burger (which is over $20), asked for medium-well and received a dry, well done burger that tasted no different than a cheap frozen patty. I took 3 bites and threw in the towel. The truffle fries were over seasoned, so the whole meal was a bust. It felt as though they were trying to cover up poor quality ingredients with tons of sugar and seasoning. My husband got the steak, which was ok but not worth the price. His sides were decent albeit greasy. For the price point I expected a lot more. With so many better restaurants in CU, we definitely won't be returning. read more

A nice restaurant located at an inconspicuous in town! I ordered a BBQ burger. The flavor was not so strong, so I added a little salt in the middle because of my heavy taste. For the dessert, I ordered the first on the menu called chocolate solution cake, and it was delicious! I really like the layers above the mousse which tasted thick and can melt in my mouth, and it was not too sweet. For the service, I did wait for some time to be seated though there were just a few groups of people inside during my visit. There seemed to be no servers at the front desk, which was a little embarrassing for me to ask for help. However, the waitress was very friendly and gentle, which made my lunch experience beautiful and relaxing. Overall, it was very good. We were a group of six who went for brunch on a Saturday. It wasn't busy at that time, but not dead. Our service was pleasant and timely. Nice rustic ambiance, but with enough modern touches that it doesn't feel out of date. Prices were reasonable and portions generous. I think the only person who didn't love their meal was my mom, who go the banana bread French Toast, but I feel that item would be hit and miss with everyone. I came for brunch. At first glance, the menu looks pricey. But, the food is delicious, and well worth it. I ordered the beet salad. It was tasty, fresh, flavorful, and pretty awesome. The pesto linguini looked and tasted like it was made by a chef with a lot of love for what he does. The shrimp was spiced well. The pasta was fantastically freshly made and packed with flavor, and not greasy at all. It's actually inexpensive considering the overall quality and creativity. My friends and I came on a Saturday evening, and it was quite busy. Food did not exactly meet up to my expectations. Everything was kinda bland overall, especially the sauces. Their cheese curds were the best, but aside from that, everything just didn't seem to match the prices of the food. My least favorite was the ravioli. It was my friend's birthday, so we decided to have a birthday dinner at Silvercreek. We made a reservation and we were shortly seated as soon as we checked in with the staff. As soon as you walk in, you are greeted by friendly staff and the cozy ambiance of the place. For appetizers, we got the stuffed mushrooms and the beef tenderloin carpaccio. The stuffed mushrooms also come with a layer of well-fried onion rings. While the stuffed mushrooms were absolutely delicious, I felt the portion size was small (comes with 4 mushrooms). I thought the beef tenderloin carpaccio was 10/10, it was light, and the amalgamation of the ingredients in this dish complimented each other very well. For entrees, we got duck confit pasta, lobster mac&cheese, and the lamb dish. First, I was very disappointed with the duck confit pasta. The presentation of the dish was not appetizing and I felt that the pasta was tasteless. Also, I felt the grapes in the pasta were not harmonious with the overall dish. The lobster mac&cheese was my favorite dish for sure. The flavors were not so overpowering, but just the right amount of cheesiness and butteriness. There were also a very generous amount of lobster bits. We also got the lamb dish cooked in medium-rare. The dish was cooked well, but it was just okay. My friend also got the birthday complimentary brownie, which looked very presentable and delicious! I recommended the chocolate cake for sure because the whipped cream that comes with the chocolate cake is heavenly. Overall, it was a good dining experience for me. The staffs were friendly and the food was (mostly) good, but I wish the food would have come out quicker (we waited a very long time for our entree). read more

We had brunch here a couple weeks ago with our grandson. We enjoyed the food and ambiance. The server was great.

I'm happy that I have a loved-one at UIUC. I'm an Illini fan. But I've been to enough college towns to know that any respectable one should be able to put up a few noteworthy eateries. Now granted, I haven't been to enough in Champaign/Urbana to drop judgement yet. But if this is the benchmark, then I'm skeptical. The space has tons of promise. Vaulted ceilings. Wood beams and bones. Plenty of windows - good light. But they have to ditch the carpet. It just kills the whole could-be vibe. The menu is what it should be, but the operators try to go just one step too far. Over-engineered. Like scallops on beet purée and goat cheese (not to be found). Interesting, but no. The blackened trout with mango and pineapple salsa: spot on conceptually. But the salsa was just the components; no fat, no acid, no salt. And the trout was dry dry dry.The service was fine. And the hostess (owner/manager?) was super accommodating. If we can't find a better option, we'll be back. But we'll shop a bit before we do. read more

I took a date to Silver Creek the other night. It has been many years since I was in Urbana, and I didn't realize the Sliver Creek now has a reputation for being a place to ostentatiously spend lots of money to receive bad food. We ordered the calamari appetizer, lamb chops, and the prime rib special. The service was exemplary. Superb. It couldn't be better. The ambience is the best you can expect from an old abandoned wood-frame building which should have been (and perhaps was) condemned in the 1960s. At least the building is still kind of interesting, even if the floors do not creak exactly the way they used to. The calamari was inedible. It didn't look anything like the pictures of calamari in the other reviews posted here. There were essentially no "rings". The calamari meat consisted of tiny diced randomly-shaped pieces of what was probably squid at one time. It was greasy and moist to the point that neither one of us could pick it up off the plate. Usually the soggy breading would slip off the meat, making it impossible to pick the meat up -- even with a fork -- or even if your fingers were buried in the dish. It was a very greasy and messy situation. The lamb chops were excellent. Very tender, and tastefully seasoned. They were the kind of quality I had learned to expect from Silver Creek ten years ago, even if it was impossible to spend as much money there, then, as is required, today: Now, at Silver Creek, you can buy better, but you can't pay more. I ordered the evening special prime rib "pink in the middle." Even though we had a fairly long discussion with the waiter about how the naming conventions mean different things in different parts of the country, and I made him repeat back, "pink in the middle," when the steak arrived, it was shoe leather. Perhaps it was just a random, but very bad, cut of meat. Occam's Razor tells us the extreme overcooking may be the only problem. I could not chew the first bite I cut off of the steak. Being on a date, I tried to power through the piece, but it had some kind of gravel rock-like HARD grit in it, as well as the extremely large portion of fat. The fat (or meat) was seared to the point it was burned black on the bottom, and there was no way to tell what it used to be before it became HARD carbon fiber. Unfortunately I had already put the first piece in my mouth when I discovered that it not only had an inedible flavor, but could not be chewed -- even to the possibility of breaking a tooth. Luckily I have read Emily Post in entirety to prepare for such emergencies. I recollected that Ms. Post decrees the proper etiquette for dealing with an inedible bite of food is to unobtrusively spit the offending food into one's napkin, which I did. Unfortunately I had no other napkin, and the excellent waiter was no where to be found. I placed the (cloth) napkin back on my lap with the bad and partially-chewed bite of meat folded inside it. As luck would have it, the disgusting wad of half-chewed steak fat and gravel rolled out of my napkin, across my pant leg - staining it, and fell to the floor. This was terribly embarrassing, although no one seemed to notice, and the excellent waiter pretended not to notice the unsightly greasy lump on the floor when he came back to the table. I was holding back, biting my tongue, trying to keep from embarrassing my date by rudely sending the meal back to the kitchen -- which, in retrospect, is exactly what I should have done. Never have I been so insulted by such apparently purposeful abhorrent cooking. But I have, in the past, sometimes remained silent in favor of maintaining a low profile for miscellaneous extraneous reasons, and I chose to do so, again. Had I known that Silver Creek has become famous for being the kind of place where you can purchase inedible food for $130, I would have gone elsewhere to begin with. We used to have small high school reunion groups get together for hors d'oeuvres, drinks and discussion at Sliver Creek. You can bet we will NEVER go to Silver Creek again! It is a shame that, just because Urbana is a small town in the middle of nowhere, these kinds of abusive restaurateurs believe the clientele are bumpkins, and they can abuse them without end, and without consequence. Whomever is responsible for the extreme slip in quality to the poor food at Silver Creek should be run out of town on a rail. (And I note that the rails are conveniently nearby.) This meal is truly one of the worst I have ever eaten in a restaurant - and that includes places like McDonald's. Without doubt, this was the worst meal I have ever paid $130 dollars for. For shame!
