During a recent visit to Chicago, my husband and I were waiting in line at this other brunch place, for what seemed like hours, the hangriness was setting in, so we walked down the block and thankfully, we stumbled upon this gem of a place. Same day Cafe had a much lesser wait time. We were seated within 10 minutes of checking in. I think we were pretty lucky, because while we were there dining, pairs and groups of people began to pile in. The restaurant was so cute, inviting, and the service, wonderful. The vibe was relaxed with simple decor, giving the restaurant a bright look. Our waitress was funny and charming, filled our waters and coffee regularly and checked up on us at perfect intervals. The restaurant itself is pretty cozy. There is some booth seating and high tops/ bar seating. It is a BYOA ( bring your own alcohol) place. They will provide the mixers. They also make their own sodas and bread, extra points! On to the food: I had a vegan veggie breakfast sandwich that was filling, flavorful, and best of all, I did not miss the meat. My husband had a benedict with candied bacon atop a perfectly browned and buttery biscuit. You know I had some of his food too! Nice cozy neighborhood spot. Limited space but once you get a table, it's an enjoyable experience and atmosphere. Hostess was friendly and kept us informed. Nice menu with fresh ingredients. Vegetarian friendly and homemade biscuits! We didn't take advantage of the BYOB, but will next time. We both got the biscuit and ancho eggs, which was tasty and came with a side of arugula salad which was refreshing. Our server was very busy but trying his best. This place has the best BLT I've ever had, and it's my favorite breakfast spot in the city. Good pastries, good coffee, quick service. They take seemingly simple sandwiches and dishes and turn them into culinary delights. They're wizards of combining flavors (rosemary bread, siracha bacon, etc)... but it's never overdone in flavor. This Kentucky Sandwich was so flavorful! It had turkey, bacon, and gravy (oh my, the gravy!) The tomatoes on top were a nice touch too. I had a strong cup of coffee and a delicious, soft, chewy double chocolate cookie. The server was super pleasant and let me just chill and read my book. The ambience was perfect (on a Thursday night). It was lightly lit, had small wicker candles flickering (nice touch) and I enjoyed the music from the DB's to my personal favorite Jill Scott. The restaurant has a few vintage touches, but the light wood tones of the tables and the bar give it a clean, contemporary feel. The owner also has a neat vinyl music collection. They just get it right here . I've passed it by so many times without realizing it's there but I'm so glad a friend took me. Ive been here twice and the overwhelming experience is "pleasant" and "comforting, and I don't mean that in any condescending way at all. Its pleasant to walk in. It feels warm on a dreary day and cheery on a sunny day. The staff is also very very pleasant, and once I had my two year old with me so I especially appreciated that...but then theres also the food, which you really have to get right if you are sandwiched between longman and eagle and reno, and they do! My friend and I went to this place on our last day in Chicago. We got there before they opened at 9AM, so there was no wait. I ordered the grilled ham and cheese, which came with a side of cole slaw and sliced pickles. The sandwich was a little more over cooked and saltier than I would've liked, but it did have a generous amount of ham. Ngl, I drank a lot of water, because the sandwich was pretty salty. I liked this little place. They have a simple little menu and it's a cute place located in Logan. I got the scrambled egg with biscuit. The biscuit was buttery and yummy. It's homemade and you can tell! My eggs contained gouda and a red chimichurri, cheddar and cilantro. This dish also came with a side salad. I liked the simplicity of the menu and the place. Adorable cafe located right off the square, Same Day Cafe is breath of fresh air amongst all the other options. I'm personally in love with their grilled cheese sandwich. My friend got me hooked on it! She lives above the restaurant and kept sending me snapchats whenever she decided to walk down and order it. So finally I did. I ordered mine to go so I could eat it on the monument one crisp fall day. You'll have to call in your order. It was ready for pick up within 15 minutes. The cheeses were melted to perfection in the sandwich. It was the perfect grilled cheese. A failure as a restaurant in everyway imaginable. First, let's talk about the wait staff. I can understand their laziness/drudgery if they were truly overworked, but with 4 waiters for ~10 tables it doesn't make sense that we'd have to wait almost 10 minutes to place an order for coffee. What's even worse is that it took another 10 minutes for two coffees and an iced tea to arrive. They just pour the coffee/teas from buffett-style insulated tubs, nothing special. And once I reminded a different waiter about our drink order, he was able to go get them for us in about 30seconds... I guess our other waiter forgot? The long wait was continued into the meal. I ordered off their "brunch" pamphlet, the B&G (biscuit and gravy). It took nearly 30minutes for our order to come out. Meanwhile we watched as other tables grumbled loudly about the poor service, a thin stream of plates slowly dribbled out of the open kitchen, with the two cook's loudly arguing with each other over the plate preparations "This one with bacon! No, sausage! Gravy!". Not too professional or organized. When the food did finally arrive, simply put, it was garbage. Garbage may actually be too nice a term for this actively hateful and disgusting pile of waste that was piled in front of me... Maybe "radioactive-ly gross cold monster crap on a pile of mushy brussel sprouts" would be a better descriptor. Everything, literally everything, was made in the worst possible way... The biscuit was dense and mushy (undercooked) made from a WAY overworked dough. The bacon was flaccid and grease-soaked. The gravy was cold, cooler than room temperature, and the egg... it was cooked worse than a 4year old learning to cook would have made. Just fried to death, with the consistency of a plastic plate on the bottom. Oh! And some greasy undercooked (though burned on the edges) brussel sprouts slipped in as a subtle "Go fuck yourself" laid under the plastic egg that they draped over their steaming pile of food-shit, like dogs hiding a dead bird under a rug. My brother had ordered the egg toast. Well, at least they're consistent! It too was super overcooked, to the point that he couldn't even cut it with a knife without having to scratch at the plate like a caricature of a man eating. My fiance had scrambled eggs... Which seemed more like a fried egg mashed into a bunch of humus? I was completely taken aback from the mushy pile of red-ish slop that she was trying to eat. And the sausage. Who makes sausage without any fat? If you do, it will end up tasting like jerky. Like a big hunk of hard chewy jerky that isn't really very good. So... Maybe next time use meat that has fat in it or alternatively, add fat to the mix... I mean I don't know if they are actively trying to be the worst food imaginable. Otherwise, fuck. It's just surprising. It's like they flipped a coin on each dish and it just kept coming up 'terrible'. TL;DR: Hot shitty garbage formed on a plate as an homage to food... Avoid it! read more

This place. They make everything from scratch. Everything. Yogurt, toast, everything. And it's all so delicious and so worth their effort. The avocado toasts with fried egg are a personal favorite of mine. I also love the pastries and the yogurt parfait. The sodas are very fun too. Even the simple sounding salads are surprisingly scrumptious. With fresh radishes, greens abs velvety vinaigrettes. I think, you can't go wrong. Not only is the food fresh, simple and well made, the staff is extraordinarily friendly. I have also gone in with small children several times and they are very kind and accommodating to that as well. Great cafe for brunch/lunch in Logan! We came here because Longman had too long of a wait and we're so happy we did! The place is smaller with a record player going in the background and a breakfast bar to sit at. It's byob and they were fine with letting us use our own mixers as well. For drinks we got the horchata iced coffee which was marked as a house favorite and I can see why. It was not too sweet and had some spice to it perfectly balanced and refreshing. For food we got the grilled cheese with everything on it. Best grilled cheese I've ever had at a restaurant hands down. The tomato was super ripe and flavorful and the cheese and bread were grilled to perfection. You can tell the care that goes into the ingredient selection here. We also got the chicken sandwich which was cooked really well. The beets were fresh and yummy as well as the green beans. The staff was super nice and helpful with the menu options like sides and milkshake flavors. All their ice cream is made in house and the vegan coconut was really refreshing! Next time I'm skipping the bread putting all the avocado toast stuff over the potatoes. Avocado toast comes with a yummy Jicama slaw (pickled?) and optional egg. Yum. I was surprised to find that this place doesn't have more recent reviews and a line out the door because...wow. My only guess is that those who do know of this gem are trying to keep it to themselves. If you're a fan of fresh, farm to table fare with a few simple ingredients executed perfectly, resulting in massive pallet pleasing textures and flavors, this place is for you. I recommend the roasted cauliflower and grilled cheese. Have you ever experienced cauliflower roasted to a texture so appropriately tender, its almost buttery? Or a gooey, cheddar-Gouda duet between two slices of thick, crunchy, buttery rosemary bread where the rosemary fragrance is as it should be--gentle yet present? The staff is friendly and service was quick without being rushed. My only thing is that almost everything on the brunch menu involved a biscuit and there's a disproportionate amount of breakfast-sandwich-type-options relative to other brunch options. As a Logan Square resident, we frequent a lot of neighborhood spots. Same Day is our favorite spot for a casual, light brunch and we hit it up nearly every weekend armed with our respective newspapers as this is the perfect cafe to sit and relax in when it isn't too busy. The food is some next level stuff; every dish has just that extra bit of thought and flavor put into it. Love the portion sizes; I'm always pleasantly full without feeling like I've eaten a salt bomb. My personal favorites: the vegan patty melt (and I'm a straight up carnivore), their chicken soup special, the reasonably priced iced coffees ($3.50, $1.50 for a refill) and my boyfriend goes on and on about the BLT. Best of all, the service is wonderful. The owner Will is engaging and always receptive to feedback. The waiters and waitresses I don't know by name but they're lovely and friendly (and have great music taste--the rotating vinyl is always on point).
