Hammer Maintenance really impressed me. At first, I was a bit nervous: they admittedly (at time of writing) don't have a ton of Yelp reviews - and I'm always the type to over analyze. To add to my already overthinking & overanalyzing, I also was more uneasy than normal; my wife is due to have our first child in about a month, and the project that we needed to have done was painting of a fairly small room. When I first reached out to a number of painters for quotes, two things immediately became clear to me: 1. Painting is a bit more expensive than I thought. 2. Some painters don't like small jobs - I probably reached out for about 10 quotes, and easily half said they were "unavailable" (AKA: not worth their time) When it comes to getting a room painted for my first child, that second point is incredibly frustrating! I was finally ready, after more research then necessary, to have a painter come in and do our nursery. Day of, that painter (NOT Hammer, to be clear) never showed up and gave a flimsy excuse. This is, perhaps, common, but beyond frustrating - especially given the importance of this specific room. Sam at Hammer Maintenance wowed me over in so many ways - first off, he always replied very quickly to my Yelp messages - which provided me some relief and confidence that he and his team would show up. And of course - they did. On time, as promised. (The guys at Hammer Maintenance wound up also proving to me that painting is well worth the price - and I understand now why painting is higher priced than I originally thought - his team spent 4 hours in a relatively small room.) Of course, on time arrival may not always necessitate a 5 star review, but Sam's coming to my rescue certainly helped; but ultimately, what won me over was the job he and his team did. The room wasn't in great shape - paint chipping, cracked walls - I was worried about how it'd look when it was finish - well, Sam and his colleague (whos name, unfortunately, I didn't catch) - made it look brand new. And then, and here's the kicker - I had two requests for Sam and his team - the walls, and the accent/molding on the bottom of the wall (white accents, nursery color blue walls). Not only did Hammer Maintenance paint these as expected - they also went ahead and painted my door jambs, doors, and window sidings. And all out the price that they originally quoted me. THAT is how you impress me. My wife was, of course, super happy with the room as well. And then, two days later - Sam reached out to me and asked if anything needed a touch up. I'm more than impressed with Sam and the team at Hammer Maintenance. He gave me a handout and fridge magnet, and my wife and I are definitely going to have Hammer Maintenance come back for other paint jobs! read more

Update on Sep 10, 2019: My response was not generated because of $90 I paid. It was generated because of the time taken (2 hours!) to make a judgement about thin studs by a professional. A professional with a stud finder would have found this in the initial 10 mins and not tried to drill holes all over the place and definitely not try to sell me on safety after 2 hours. Your exact words were "I will install it but it will be completely at your own risk", so please don't take any pride of keeping me or my family safe as you were ready to install it at my risk. I was completely fair in my review and was also reached out by someone who read my review after they hired your company and had a similar experience. I wish people are more honest in their work and not ruin it for everyone. I would let more people who hire this business comment on their experience so the truth comes out. I would not like to comment on this anymore with all due respect! First review on Aug 27, 2019: I went with Sam after reading the 3 reviews which were really promising. I reached out to Sam and we agreed for $45/hour to install my garage racks which I got from Costco. Today (Aug 27, 2019) Sam came with another person and was on time. He seemed like a nice guy and started to install my garage racks. After around 30-40 mins he said he would need more nails as the beams are thin on one side so he needs to make sure it holds fine. For me sturdiness of racks was the primary concern so I agreed and went to the nearby store to buy more nails (which I thought was weird as one would carry extra since its their profession but who am I to judge). I said sure I will go get them as I wanted the installation to be as sturdy as possible. I returned after 30 mins or so with the additional nuts Sam asked for. Once I returned I saw that not much progress was made, rather it was almost the same as I had left and was surprised. At this point he says one side of the beam is really thin and started to give me tips on how it won't work. After sometime he says he will go ahead and install but completely at my risk as he feels it won't hold weight. I started to feel he could have realized this in the first 10 mins why is he telling this to me now when I ran and got the nuts. I said let's wrap up everything as I don't want to take the risk. I want the installation to be sturdy if not its not worth it for me. I went to get the checkbook at this time as I felt it wouldn't be fair to not give him any money. They asked me if I want the parts to be removed from the wall I said yes please and pack them as I would return it to Costco. I came down and Sam says $90 for 2 hours! I said but you didn't do anything and he starts to tell me that he is an engineer and took his time to analyze the situation. I said 2 hours to realize that the beams were thin that too having the stud finder with him is completely unreasonable but he insisted that I pay him and I did! I am sad to see that he does not respect his own profession. If I was in his place I would feel terrible to take any money for the work I didn't do. Someone professional would do the analysis in the first 10 mins and proceed further. I am not sure about his other work but with respect to installation I would suggest you stay away from him unless you don't care to loose your money for nothing!! To add to this they didn't even pack the materials and left as they were. Highly unprofessional! read more
