I had Daniel Hackett paint my 2400 square-foot house interior in Menlo Park. Daniel is a nice guy and very easy to work with He was understanding when I had a dispute over the specific details of the work. I was happy that it was resolved in my favor. My complaint was that his painters were too sloppy in the details of their work, Hence, no five star rating, Sorry Daniel! My advice to Daniel's crew: Pretty good is not good enough! Masking tape is your friend! Electrical outlets are not supposed to be painted the same color as the wall they're mounted in! You should be especially careful when painting around mirrors. His guys were always here at 8.00AM They were great. I was able to stay in my house while they were painting the whole house, they covered the furniture and cleaned up afterwards. I cannot say good enough things about Daniel. I hired him based on a reference from Gray's Painting. I needed a painter familiar with Benjaman Moore paints to repaint the interior of my house. I had interviewed six painters with estimates ranging from low to ridiculously high. Estimators played games like quoting me for contractor grade paint and other brands when I explicitly informed them I wanted to work with a particular line of Benjaman Moore. Daniel gave me a good quote, with the products I wanted. He helped me finalize colors and had a lot of insight on what goes well. This helped us out a lot given that I had a kitchen remodel going on and a lot of schedule juggling and color matching to figure out. His staff is polite, courteous and the place was left clean afterwards. It was a pleasure to work with him and I would hire him in a heartbeat for any painting done. Daniel Hackett's crew painted the exterior of our house last year, and overall the project looked good. I am noticing now, after only a year, that there are some areas that are cracking and/or need touch up. Daniel hasn't been responsive to multiple emails and phone calls. I had him come out to the house about three months ago to give us a bid on some interior painting. He provided the bid over a month after his visit (only after significant emails from us), but hasn't responded to multiple calls or emails about that bid either. It's ironic because we wanted to hire him to do the work! Overall, I probably wouldn't recommend due to his lack of follow up and communication. I think it's so easy to return an email or phone call, and if you are busy to let a person know. I really don't like being ignored, especially after I paid quite a bit to him for the exterior painting project. Very bad customer service. read more

I recently hired Hackett Painting to paint an office in Palo Alto. Daniel, the owner,, is very knowledgeable about his trade and was present throughout the job to make sure all details were promptly and well executed. Additionally he is incredibly flexible about changes in goals (eg re-painting a wall when you change your mind about the color). While most renovation projects are full of stress, working with someone who intelligent, on time, focused on helping you achieve your goals, and reasonably priced is as good as it gets. His painters had to work around other workers and were very professional and courteous.
