I recently attended the "Wake up with Wellness" retreat that was held during the "Taste of the SYV"…read moreweekend. It was a crisp, cool, morning out Foxen Canyon Rd at Koehler Winery. There were Emu's wandering the property and our event was up on the Tree house Deck, right were the Emu's could wander around us. We participated in the Sound bath & Restorative Yoga portion of the retreat. There was also another mini retreat of 'Make your own' Essential Oils class going on simultaneously. The restorative yoga was a new experience for my husband and I, and we both found it to be very relaxing and a wonderful way to spend a Saturday morning. After the yoga, they concluded with a sound bath healing with Lisa Jay, in which I had attended a sound bath healing with her before, and that is what drew me into attending this event. It was very healing, relaxing, and renewing to spend the morning with others, while Emu's made noises around us. There is nothing more grounding and uplifting than crystal bowls humming all around you, the sound reverberating throughout your whole being. I believe I drifted off at some point and didn't even realize I was outside in Los Olivos anymore, but transported to another world. If you haven't done a sound bath healing, I highly recommend it. I also think Yoga with Emu's could catch on, much like 'Yoga with goats.'.... If you haven't been to the Santa Ynez Valley, I highly recommend coming up for a visit, there is a sacred space out here, and to be able to attend this event was so special. The views around us, were breathtaking. VWC really thought of everything, after yoga and sound we were definitely thirsty and hungry. Kelly and her team even had a light fare that was provided afterward, there were snacks and Koehler offered a wine flight tasting afterwards, which was wonderful. VWC (Valley Wellness Collective) even included a small take home gift from the retreat. It was a beautiful way to celebrate taking care of ourselves, as self-care has been a new running theme for us. I look forward to what else Kelly and her team of Wellness Providers dream up next, at their next retreat/event. I am even excited about VWC Holiday Market coming up on the 23rd of November back out at Koehler Winery, (1pm to 4pm) celebrating local artisans selling their custom made wares. We really needed something like this in the Valley, and I'm grateful she (Kelly) has made it a reality here. It was well supported, and everything was well managed and effortless.

The ranch is more than 150 acres which allows guests to have enough personal space for both quiet time and activities. There is about 4 miles of trails to hike and can see the ocean the top. It's 30 minutes from downtown Paso Robles and wineries. The food is delicious here! There is light breakfast served with some of the most flavorful granola I've ever had. We had a picnic basket arranged for us when we went wine tasting one afternoon. The dinner is a 3 course meal and we were full! There is brunch served on Sundays. Jennifer and Richard are the owners and stay on the site. They are absolutely hospitable and kind! This is the place for tech detox, rest, and intimacy.

Jen and Rich are beautiful humans who have created the most enjoyable glamping experience. 5 stars are not enough to compliment the beauty and creativity of the cabana and the entire retreat itself. Book the winery tour, couples massages and let nature take its course. This place is a hidden treasure and if u are lucky enough to find it than book it bc u will never find anything close to this. We stayed up until 3am playing games and telling stores by the fire pit both nights. It's just a wonderful experience. Jen and rich are super hosts and I can't stress how thankful we are for their hospitality, class and creativity. We will be back :)

My family planned a last minute getaway. My son had been taking swimming lessons so we wanted to…read morefind a place with a pool close to home. We stumbled upon the Malibu retreat. It looked perfect due to its saltwater pool and gorgeous photos online. There were so many great reviews...what could go wrong? We booked the guest house as some of the other options that were less pricey did not have pool access according to one of the owners. So we paid the extra couple hundred for the pool. We arrive and all seemed as described in the guest house. Within the first hour my daughter was crawling anround and picked up a cigarette that was on the floor just under the couch. No big deal. We unpack and head to the pool... The pool was green, smelled, and was cloudy (nothing like the photos online). I message right away and get a text back indicating the levels were tested that day and were fine. Hmm. At this point I didn't know what we could do other than make the best of it. We decide to make some food as we were told the kitchenette included a convection oven. Nope nothing but a microwave. So we order take out instead $$. My son wanted to roast marshmallows bc I told him there was a fire pit outdoors. We head over and it's filled with leaves. This was also the case with the outdoor bbq. Not a big deal but we didn't spend the money to clean the amenities, and we were worried about the smoke if we left the leaves. On our last day my son opens a little decorative box in the living room to find a green rotten string cheese yikes! It is important to note the guest house has sliding glass doors at the entrance of the guest house. Directly in front is where guests of the main house will park. Our view was of 5 cars and there was a lot of activity so we had to keep curtains shut the entire time. FYI- There is no sink for washing dishes or baby bottles. We had to make do with the bathroom sink. Once returned I let them know how the stay was and I was told they found out the pool had been clogged and they were out of the country. They offered a discount next time which was appreciated but I honestly feel we should have been compensated. I sent a text and emailed my thoughts but am getting no response. They were quick to respond when it came to booking and taking my 500$ deposit. I'm so bummed about this experience because it is a beautiful place if it were maintained and if the pool were safe to put the kids in. Last photo is of us making the most of it on the rock :)

I love the layout of this place - small hiking trails running along both sides of the retreat; a Jacuzzi paired with an intricately designed, salt pool for detox or relaxing; a warm and cozy fireplace next to the large and welcoming kitchen; and the front and back yards with adorable critters and plenty of seats to enjoy nature. I enjoyed this scenery and retreat for my extended weekend on Veteran's Day. I hike in silence, prayed in silence, cried in silence, and of course, meditate in silence. It was a thought-provoking task that made me question, whether I could remain silent for three whole days. However, it was easier done than one would think and so serene. The pressure of saying and doing the right thing wasn't there. You are there to be and reflect, which most people don't have the time to do, when they're in their normal habitat. You almost make up excuses for yourself on why you can't take a moment to just relax and do what you want. You keep yourself busy because you feel like you haven't accomplished enough and there are so many more thing to be done. However, here, there's nothing that must be done correctly or even to be done at all. It's amazing. Ruth and Bruce were very kind. However, I didn't connect to them as I wish to, but that's why we go to different retreats to get to know yourself and the ones guiding it. All the funds that you pay for goes to charity, which is amazing of Ruth and Bruce. However, there are many other practices that are completely free and you can decide what you like to donate. Either way, it's an amazing experience. **Sidenote: While this is a silent retreat, depending on who is staying there at the same time, it can get very noisy. Although, I enjoyed seeing the people that attended the retreat with me, I didn't enjoy their constant talking. I feel like it took away from my experience. My peers were very friendly but loud. Lol.
