My experience in this store was truly awful. The salesperson (male) was rude and unkind. If you want to buy in this store, my advise: If you want to be treated with class and dignity in this store, you must not wear work out outfits because they will treat you unkind. I had a bad experience there. And it was my fault. If you have money to burn and would rather pamper your ego, have at it. The clothes are nice, but the shirt I bought was not worth what it cost, when that money could have been donated to much better causes than collecting dust in my closet. If you really into fancy clothing why wouldn't you have bespoke clothes made? I ended up buying something I didn't want, wouldn't wear and couldn't return. It was a bad experience. Beautiful shop with great selection of premium brands for men and women. But this is not a Five Star review for a couple of reasons. One is their pricing policy appears to not be beholden to the manufacturers' suggested retail price, meaning they charge more than the manufacturer stipulates. I was told this is because it is "expensive doing business in Burlingame". Whatever. You would have to call them out on it and then they do you the kind "favor" of correcting the price. The second reason for a less than stellar review is that one sales associate I had the bad luck to deal with is not friendly at all! Extremely pushy and somewhat arrogant. Both issues really detract from what should be a fabulous shopping experience. read more

Absolutely one of my favorite men's stores! Sam hands pick every piece in the store and the fabrics they select from top Italian manufacturers (e.g. Kiton. Zegna)) for their suits and sport coats are unsurpassed - they carry the best of the Brunello Cucinelli line in every season, including beautiful sweaters, shirts and selected pieces of spectacular luggage. The atmosphere is very low key and collegial, and Sam and his knowledgable staff are quick to point out unique items they feel you might like without being the least bit pushy . I live in SF, and make it a point to stop by anytime I am headed down the peninsula. If you are a fan of fine and unusually well-made clothes as I am, you owe it to yourself to stop in. read more

The previous reviews of this place smack of being written by the owner, or employees. Seriously - do you ever walk in to a clothing store and say, "what a beautiful layout." ? I would hazard that most people don't really care about the interior design of their suit shop - at least not consciously. As for a real review of Malouf's: The prices are high and selection is so-so. I'm all for mom and pop shops - but they have offer something better than a big box (better service at least). It's a good place for furnishings and shoes, but you're better off at Saks or your designer of choice, if you're looking for a suit. The casual stuff is over the top for my taste - but that really is a personal preference thing. If you like high end italian casual...Malouf's is your place. They location is great if you live in Burlingame or near by. Easy to find, decent parking, not too crowded on the weekends. read more

if quality and fit is the name of your game, then this is your store! they sell everything from sportswear brands such as barbour, to hand tailored premium brands such as kiton. a very nicely laid out store, and the staff is always friendly & very knowledgeable. sam, himself, has a great sense of taste and style, and only stocks the store with what customers will love. always a good guy to talk to. i enjoy shopping at a independent shop like sam malouf, versus those huge department chains any day! read more

One of the last of the family owned business on Burlingame Ave! I wanted a proper tailored suit and was well pleased with a beautiful, timeless, classic style. The fit was spot on and the service was excellent. I thought I passed my Diesel jeans phase but Sam Malouf had a very cool almost bali blue color that has worked out nicely especially since I moved to Hawaii. This is one of those stores that you really root for since it is a local, downtown store but perhaps it just isn't for me. As I mentioned before I went through my "Diesel" brand phase in my late twenties and now I'm just too old (33) for their shirts and jackets, and I can find much better fitting jeans elsewhere (although more expensive). The fact they have Diesel and Loro Piana and Brunello Cucinelli in the same store is kinda weird but when you think about their main clientele it does make sense. On the border of an affluent Burlingame/Hillsborough area where 75% could buy and sell me but can't dress worth crap (bad sizing, colors ect)-- this store is valuable to that group. So selling a beautifully made $300 polo shirt and at the same time Diesel jacket to a 50 yr old wanting to feel 25 again makes sense. The space itself is very nice and the salesperson I bought the jeans from was extremely nice and helpful and not pushy at all. I've gone in several times in the past and did a walk through and nothing caught my eye. But as I was walking I did overhear some rather nice salesperson to customer conversations with the salesperson "schooling" the customer on the brands and fashion in general which I think is a very good thing. I really hope Sam has success with the store and more guys or wives of guys go to visit-- but please, please pay attention to the "fit" of the clothes. Buying a size large for a guy who really is a medium makes the $300 polo worthless in my humble opinion. read more

I've been shopping with Sam since before his store moved from down the block. He has always treated me well, even when I used to go into the store with my father as a kid. Once I got old enough to buy dress clothes for myself, the obvious choice to add luxurious, unique pieces to my wardrobe was Sam Malouf. He carries many brands that you will not find at large retailers like Macy's or Bloomingdales. Although pricey, you can't find a better clothier on the peninsula. A custom Kiton or Zegna suit is a great way to add an elegant piece to your wardrobe that you will have for years.
