Different members of my family have been shopping at Danny Len for as long as I can remember, and I am hard pressed to think of an interaction with the women of my family that didn't leave me with a bad taste in my mouth.
My grandmother bought a truck from them to use around town and up and down her dirt road driveway, when she got the truck home and realized that she could hardly turn it around because of its lack of power steering and her frailty, they offered to buy the truck back from her at $2000 less than she'd paid for it a few days beforehand.
My mother has bought 2 GMC trucks from them because they were the only GMC dealer in the area. On her first buying experience they talked her in into buying one of their demos for effectively full price which had already been ragged out and damaged (the body damage was repaired before she bought the truck). Their impetus for selling her a new truck was telling her she needed a new transmission ($3,000) in her old truck when all it really needed was a new clutch (less than $1,000). She didn't have the money for a new transmission, so the only real option for her was to finance a new vehicle. They sold her trade in a week later (new clutch and all) for almost three times what they gave her on trade (they gave her $3,000 on the trade, the truck was on their lot for $8,995). The truck she bought ended up having chronic engine trouble that eventually lead to her trading it as well.
These are just the most egregious experiences, I have seen a number of experiences with their service department that were typical of what you expect from a stereotypical dealer (don't fix anything, just swap parts, and book rate everything).
Part of the blame lies with the family members for not being more savvy, and being unable to resist high pressure sales tactics. But they went to Danny Len's because it was owned by an old family from Eustis, and they thought they could trust them. All of this happened in the 1990s and 2000s, its possible their mentality has changed, but I doubt it. read more
