The only redeeming part of the Briers was the spa until a few years ago, now it is just as bad. My grandson has on two occasions bought me gift certificates for the spa. Every time I called to make an appointment (on at least for different occasions) they did not have the staff to accommodate my request to have a massage and facial on the same day. Their inability to keep staff made my request fir the same day service impossible. After the fourth phone call I requested that they refund the amount of the gift certificates, which the former manager agreed to but failed to follow through. Now they are refusing to honor their former managers promise stating that I can use the gift certificates for food or to stay there. NO I will not do either. I honestly am thinking that I will give these certificates to homeless people as they do need a place to sleep and eat and that's about all the Briers is good for. I repeat do not even visit this place.

Spoke to 'customer service' who could not have been less interested and the resort manager, who was dismissive. Never, ever ever stay there! They don't care about guest 'experience' or anything! There are lots of better hotels. Do yourself a favour and choose one of them!

We checked in on Saturday and an East Indian Women with the worst customer service made us wait over 15 minutes in the freezing lobby trying to find us a room, funny as looked like we were the only ones there. The Big East Indian guy who seemed to be the owner and could barely speak English kept starring at us, what a pervert !!!. The place smells of rotten ethnical food, pool and spa that do not work, no restaurant as advertised. Garbage every where in the staircase, washrooms and very poor lighting. Dirty rooms but even if they were clean and had hot water BED BUGGS are a NO NO NO. The mattresses and bedding were at least 20 years older and smelled bad. We later went to the local pub for dinner and were informed by locals that the Health Department had just this week shut down the restaurant and the pool of the resort as the owners did violate multiple health and safety regulations plus all the employees and management of the resort left due to unpaid wages or mistreatment. Sounds like a strange story but that is actually existing and right on the Lake Simcoe.

We are a team with younger children, and parents made a point of supervising kids closely, following curfews, and being respectful to staff. Despite this, we were treated with suspicion and hostility from the moment staff realized we were a hockey team. On our first night, the hotel offered an empty room for kids to play mini sticks. The following day, when kids asked again, we were offered a different room that was dirty and had broken glass on the floor. Staff were notified, but no apology or concern was shown. That evening, while supervised kids were using the pool, another family (not part of our group) opened an unlocked side door and ran into the snow before jumping back into the pool. Some of our kids followed. There were no warning signs and the door was not locked. The pool was immediately closed by staff without testing water levels, and parents were falsely accused of children urinating in the hot tub. By 8:30 p.m., all children were in their rooms with parents. The following morning, our team manager received a rude email accusing our children of running the halls late at night and harassing guests--none of which occurred. The situation escalated further the next evening when staff aggressively confronted parents at the pool and accused a guest of having alcohol without cause. When another parent calmly attempted to speak to the desk manager to de-escalate, the staff member pushed past her and retreated to her office, where police were called. The OPP attended and confirmed there was no disorderly behavior. Everyone was allowed to remain for the night. Beyond staff behavior, the hotel itself was dirty and poorly maintained. Our room had a dead bug and personal items left behind, public areas were not well kept, and breakfast service was slow and inattentive. We would not recommend this hotel to families, sports teams, or anyone expecting professional service or basic cleanliness.

WIFI (which was quick) and parking were free. There is a restaurant in the hotel, the Grape and Olive Wine & Martini Bistro, but there are lots (Swiss Chalet, McDonald's, etc.) within walking distance ... I had supper last night at Kelsey's, which is across the street. I had breakfast in the restaurant in the hotel this morning ... two eggs, peameal bacon, toast and homefries ($8) and a glass of milk. It was good! I'd stayed here again.

It only took us 1hour and 15 minutes to get there by car! The owners, Michael and Liz were helpful from the very beginning; from giving us directions to attending to our every need from the moment we arrived, and with genuine smiles. You can feel that they honestly care. Our experience was amazing. After speaking with Liz and visiting the place before planning my weekend and booking it, I knew right away that is was the perfect little piece of heaven I had been looking for and that was missing in my life. The accommodations are very comfortable, bed and rooms. Everything is impeccably clean and conveniently placed. Sheets, pillows and linens are also included which avoids a headache when with groups. The washrooms are spacious and there are sufficient amounts so that you never find yourself waiting to use the toilet or shower. You have the option to stay in the house or rent the cabins outside as well. The yoga barn is not that of what you would think of. In my clients words: "it's more of a barn out of a fairytale than an actual barn you picture in your head!" The dining room is spacious but also very cosy. The person who built the barn had to be very patient and meticulous. The chef/cook we hired through Liz's recommendations was a hit! Her food was creative and tasty, wonderful flavors and she is also a very inspiring person. Not only does she speak multiple languages but is very talented with music as well and we finished the night around the fire pit outside, playing instruments she brought and dancing in celebration, hypnotized by the flammes and the sound of her voice. I highly recommend her services! Her name is Erin Meher (erinmeher@gmail.com) and she is into ayurvedic yoga massage, yogasana, pranayama, meditation, organic gardening & permaculture. A very multi-talented woman that has so much in depth knowledge and even helped enlighten my clients about proper nutrition. Certainly don't hesitate to ask Liz about her! Surrounded by the beauty's of nature as if it's not enough, they also have a beautiful artisan pond, perfect to swim, very refreshing with access to a paddle boat. The pond is also filled with clay which was awesome as we gave each other facials and let it dry in the sun, lounging on comfortable chairs. The forest is dense but the trail walk is clear and flowers decorate the path to make it even prettier. The garden is beautiful; I had never seen asparagus grow! Liz is also a Thai massage practitioner and we had all booked in a massage. I can honestly say, I've lived in Thailand for almost a year and I've never had such a wonderful massage. I was competing in Muay Thai and getting massages done every third day so you can imagine I've had my share of them... But none compare to Liz's healing hands. She is attentionate and caring and you can feel her putting her positive loving intentions and the sincere release that comes with it. The best hands on massage I've ever had! If I had 4 thumbs, I'd give her 4 thumbs up!! Her father Michael is also an extraordinary man. I still don't understand how he keeps up with the maintenance of the place. The property is huge! He helped us with the fire and even came to serve us fresh watermelon on Sunday when we were lounging with our facials fresh from the pond! It was simply an amazing experience with great company and if I could, I would live there permanently!! I'll have to settle for a weekend getaway as often as possible! You can be sure that I will be back, sooner than later, by myself, with my partner, and organizing more weekends with clients!!! All my clients thanked me truly for such an out of this world experience. They will all be back again, that's for sure!
